Yes, it's very much possible to make money by playing Splinterlands. I myself am having loads of fun by just playing the game and exploring combinations to beat other players. The added cryptocurrency gains however are simply amazing.
The best thing is that you can try out the game absolutely for free without any investment.
But to enjoy the game to the fullest with all the options plus earn cryptocurrency you'll need to make a small investment and buy Summoner's spellbook which will allow you to:
- Make purchases like cards and packs
- Earn DEC (dark energy crystals)
- Earn Daily Quest / Season rewards
- Take part in tournaments
- Transact on the HIVE blockchain
- Transfer assets in and out of the game
While it may seem that it costs a bit to start out, in my opinion it's well worth it. If we're looking at current DEC prices then you'd need to get around 850 DEC (at the time of writing) to get back your investment.
I'm very close to that amount, and you know what? I joined this game just a couple of days ago!
So it's very much possible to start earning almost right away. And who knows, maybe you'll be one of lucky ones that strike gold from daily quests or season rewards.
What I meant by that?
There are floating around stories of people gaining more than 60k DEC from a single reward chest. That's more than 700$ by todays prices! That's just crazy!
While such luck is certainly rare, you still have good chances to land some good cards that are worth something.

Tive a sorte de tirar dois baús de 2k Dec nas missões diárias e ontem, 14.08, saiu minha primeira carta Gold. Já tripliquei meu investimento inicial de U$ 26,00 e já abri minha segunda conta... A meta é ter 10 contas ativas, coloca-las pelo menos no Prata I e ficar farmando as missões diárias e SPS. O melhor é que além do retorno financeiro o jogo é divertido, desafiador e envolvente. Uma verdadeira união entre o Útil e o Agradável. Sucesso a todos os players deste jogo incrível!
