This week in Splinterlands...

Alright, this week the Town Hall got delayed by a few days because of our American friends celebrating Independence Day on the 4th of July but that's fine since it actually also got aligned with a very important release, namely SPS staking instead of CP going forward. We knew it was coming for a very long time but it the team still managed to somehow surprise everyone by releasing it this week. Let's have a look at the details now.

I'll start with the actual figures for the different leagues:

We have seen these numbers before and they have not been changed for the release so this is what is now also live in the actual game. Note that the SPS requirements listed above the different SPS amount columns as 2x, 4x, 6x, etc, would probably be better understood if they had listed them as 20% 40% 60% because the starting point is not 1X (before the change) but 10x, so 10X is the old "normal" and the new "normal" is 10 times less than that and you start building from there. I've expressed my opinion before and I will say it again. It think the requirements are too high, and what's worse is that they do not take into account how much a person has put into cards whatsoever, and I frankly find that unfair. I've put a considerable amount of money into my deck but now I am deemed an "extractor" just as much as someone with $0 put into a personal collection.

Anyway... let's see what this means for my main account:

As you can see the multiplier for my Champ III main account has dropped from the old "normal" of 10x to 5.43x. So my earnings (in terms of chests) have been slashed by 50% for this particular league. This is with the 48K staked SPS I have on it. It could actually be a lot more terrible as I will demonstrate in just a second with my two alt accounts, but it still does not feel great at all. Before demonstrating the impact on my Gold and Silver accounts, I have to, of course, mention that people can delegate SPS to other people, as well as rent SPS from a rudimentary marketplace which has gone live together with this update.

So, it seems that currently people are trying to get SPS at as much as 0.007 DEC per 1 SPS per day, which means that if you want to rent 100,000 SPS for 7 days, that will cost you 4,900 DEC - 7 days x 700 DEC. Frankly... even if I rent 100K at this price I still will not get to what I was earning prior to this release and in addition to that, that will be additional cost the chests I get will have to cover. As we all know the monetary value of stuff we have been getting out of chests lately has been really low, so I really hope the rental prices get a bit more reasonable. And before talking about my alts, just a quick look at what the venerable Mav chat thinks about putting SPS up for renting:

Everyone was saying a few weeks ago that SPS rentals would be "really cheap" but it seems that some major whales such as Azircon (who I really respect) have other stuff in mind such as... killing off bots by not renting out any of his SPS. I hope he is joking because he will kill a lot more actual players than bots with such an attitude.
So back to my alts now:

My gold alt drops down by 70% in its Gold II league with the 4000 SPS staked it has and my Silver alt:

get reduced by a whopping 90% with the 500 staked SPS it has. I will obviously either have to really do something about it or retire it. What I am currently thinking is to delegate SPS from my main to both alts so they are back in decent shape to earn at least something, and they potentially at least try to rent some SPS at a fair price if that is even possible.
And since we're here anyway, let's try it "live" in this post. I delegated the following amounts of SPS to my two alts:

11,000 to my Gold alt for at total of 15,000 and 7,000 to my Silver alt for a total of 7,500.

The multiplier on my main dropped to 3.96x

And this is how it changed for the other two accounts:

That's quite an improvement for my Silver alt, I think I will pump it a bit more though. I will see if I can get some SPS at a reasonable price first.

Another thing which went live with today's maintenance is something influenced by a proposal which has recently passed - namely the ability to buy Rift Watcher packs with DEC:

The Rift Gems now cost 5,000 DEC + 1 Voucher. I could have taken advantage of this offer if I did not have to suddenly spend DEC on renting SPS, sigh..

The last thing I wanted to discuss yet again is another elephant in the room which is now up for voting, and is currently passing:

I will outline again the major points why I am against this proposal:

Soulbound cards are not "free" to get, you actually have to invest in your deck and invest time in the game in order to earn them.
I am yet to see any proof of any large bot farms which are also large land holders, if anyone has any evidence for that, please share it with me.
I really think the people who "brought this to Matt's attention" are just interested to make SB cards unusable on land so they can sell their card stockpiles more easily. SB cards would hurt their "business".
These horrendous fees are just to "manifest" the cards on land. They are not even everything that has to be paid if you also want to unlock the card (make it tradable). You will have to pay even more when that happens.
