Calculation of magic monsters power.

in Splinterlands3 years ago

Introduction:
The hypotheses is that there is a powercreep in splinterlands. To prove this we need a way to quantify the monster power.
This is a work in progress:

This part is about quantify the power of magic monsters.

The power of magic attack monsters:
Magic has the benefits of ranged, close range, ignoring armor and never miss. Compared to ranged attack monsters, the monsters have even lower health and speed. Around 1 health and 2 speed less. (compare to melee this is 4 monster power less) This also works out for the powercurve.

The rules to calculate monster power so far:

  • 1 health is 1 monster power.
  • 1 armor is 2 monster power any additional armor is worth 0.5 monster power.
  • 1 Speed is 0.5 monster power.
  • 1 attack is 0 monster power,
  • 2 attack is 2 monster power,
  • 3 attack is 3.5 monster power any additional attack is worth 0.5 monster power.
  • Rare monsters are worth 0.5 and Epic monsters 1 more monster power.
  • Neutral monsters adds 1 monster power for flexability.
  • Ranged monsters are worth 2 additional monster power.
  • Ranged monsters are worth 4 additional monster power.
  • 1 mana cost is roughly 1.4 monster power

Cards to mention:
Dax Paragon is a powerful monster for the mana cost, nothing really special, the monsters powers are very close. If there will be a +1 magic light summoner, this will be a stable pick.
Elven mystic Elven mystic still won a lot in lower tiers with the +1 magic summoner. But it's still a relative bad stats compared to other magic monsters.

Final thoughts:
Ability power quantification has yet to come. Ball point figures:

  • never miss is easy worth 1 monster power.
  • Ignoring armor only is worth at least 2 monster power.
  • Assuming close range makes sure you get another attack in it is also worth at least 1 monster power.

I think magic attack is way undervalued, especially with +1 magic summoners. That’s probably why almost all magic summoners have to attack the frontline, to make sure it's counterable.

Really appreciate these breakdowns mate, keep em up !gif maths

You do not need to put #peakd as a topic-tag ... there is no real benefit and the post is not about PeakD.com so there really isn't a reason to. We are likely the only account to search for posts with the topic tag #peakd so it really doesn't benefit you much we suggest you use that space for another topic tag that will help your post more and is more related to the topic of your post.

I hope this has been a helpful educative comment.

Thanks, Thats a great tip!

Like @instamental said, good stuff. Sharing this on Splinterlands Digest Twitter.

Thanks, looking forward to the next digest!

Interesting hypothesis - I think I agree that there has been power creep with Chaos Legion, for example the new 0 mana Fiends vs. the old Furious Chicken. Thanks for doing the math to quantify this!

This is a great example of power creep!

Logically the 0 mana monsters have "infinite" value. In battles were you have space left they simply add chance to win without mana.

Concerning monsterpower; legendary monsters are always stronger (~+1.5)
it has only 1 health, so i think it's on curve...

It's a great reason why the power calculation doesn't tell the whole story! (Atleast for now ;) )
