As a new player, I am in agreement. I've been enjoying the game for the past 5-6 weeks since I started, but it became clear very early on that what I needed was card packs to 1) improve my power and 2) improve my ability to move up the ranks (better cards allow for better strategy). I've had success getting all the way to Bronze 2, but the lacking in power makes it a struggle. Renting is fine, but as I look toward a longer term approach to the game, packs are really what is desired, especially for us newer players. My biggest concern is the devs have stated they will have 15M packs available. 1M packs are in the pre-order pool, leaving approximately 14M packs left for POST pre-order sale. Given the success of the Untamed packs ROI, how likely are we to see those 14M CL packs sell out? I'll be there day one with my credits, DEC, and SPS (the few that I have) ready to go, but given all the hype, I can only imagine the bloodbath the servers will take when the actual sales begins...

I started fairly early in Untamed and my suggestion for new players is not to buy pack if resources are scarce. I is better in my opinion to purchase specific cards. My experience with packs is half of what I open I hardly use because I have a bunch of cards of low levels where if I just focused on a few cards I knew I wanted I could level them up and make them very useful. Since you're renting you probably have a few cards that you like that you rent. I you started using you DEC or whatever else you have to buy and level up those cards you can slowly start not needing to rent them which will become to leave you more DEC to use to buy more cards and so on. With CL out now you might be able to buy specific CL cards for cheaper than Alpha or Beta that basically do the same thing now too. I used to rent Flesh Golemn even though it's an expensive one because it is so good. But now I took that DEC and got Pelacor Mercenary which is very similar and don't rent the golemn anymore. That's been my approached and as helped me as I don't have much going in either.

One of the attractions for me with the packs is likely hood of gaining summoners. You need the higher level summoners, especially when you get to the higher leagues (from my observation). Summoners on the marketplace are more than the cost of a single pack (even at $4). As far as the cards I would never use and/or duplicates, would not make sense to just burn them for DEC or combine to higher levels?

Yes, @aitrussg accurately describes the dilemmas of many new Splinterlands players.

yes that's really my concern as a newbie too. It is hard to buy new card packs with so little sps, dec and all. It just really shows how getting earlier into the game is wayy better. Cards are so important to help you increase rank as more and more cards are availabe, it's just not about renting them anymore, I prefer to stay in the game long term so of course owning cards would be better. Pretty hyped up about chaos legion but it just makes my fomo bigger? And given the little amount of sps I have, I can't even get a voucher.

That's the beauty of this really, the actual Splinterlands company is only getting the $4 per pack (or $3.60 if paying with SPS), and the rest is whatever the market decides to do. With these current insanely high prices, lots of people who aren't getting many vouchers at all can now at least sell them for enough to buy way more packs later, or stack more SPS :-)

It's also so weird that the price of SPS and DEC are both down... while the vouchers you need SPS for are insanely highly priced. What?!

People need to liquidate to buy vouchers :P

Big investors are showered with money and the normal player, especially the newcomers, lose interest.
