Hello everyone!
Time for another weekly battle challenge in our favorite game - Splinterlands.

So for this week we have to use the Goblin Psychic. Personally he is one of my favorite cards in the Earth splinter. As you know at level 1 he has 2 base magic damage, 1 speed, 3hp and the Tank heal ability. Speaking of him at level 4 he get MUCH stronger as he gets Affliction, which gives his every attack a chance to stop enemy healing on the targer. Personally I still dont have him leveled, but I plan to level him up to level 4 as soon as I get level 3 Obsidian.

So going into the battle, we have the following rulesets:

  • 26 mana cap;
  • Equalizer, which gives all monsters the same hp as the strongest monster has;
  • Enrage;
  • Only Dragon and Earth splinters available.

Seeing that the enemy player likes playing Dragon with Quix and Drake of Arnakk, my first thoughtis to go for a magic damage team. Given the Equalizer I tend to aim for more higher damage and low mana cost monsters /which usually means they have low hp/ or monsters with high base armor, as if the opponent chooses a high hp monster we will have more monsters with more damage and it should be an easy win. But given that I dont have much suitable Earth splinter monsters with high armor I have one more reason to go for a magic damage team, which is as it follows:

Summoner - Obsidian
  1. Mycelic Morphoid - a 1 mana, 1 melee damage card, 1 speed. IMO its perfect for Equalizer;
  2. Failed Summoner - 2 mana and Magic reflect;
  3. The star - Goblin Psychic - 6 mana, 2 magic, 1 speed;
  4. Mushroom Seer - so I saw that our opponent doesn't use much magic attackers, but decide to use him anyways, because hey for 5 mana we get 2 magic damage and a Silence effect, which reduces enemy magic damage by 1, so it counters even if he goes Obsidian or Delwyn, but Delwyn doesn't make much sense here unless he has some strong magic dragon monsters, which i don't have so its a no-brainer for me;
  5. Wood Nymph - another favorite of mine because i like healing, lol. We get a single magic damage, with 1 speed for 4 mana;
  6. And lastly I decide to go for a Goblin Thief, as I have 4 mana left, and if our opponent doesn't go for a high hp monster we would still be able to clean up the backline with his 2 melee damage, opportunity and 2 speed.

As this happened to be quite a long battle of 10 rounds, perhaps you would like to see it for yourself by clicking the battle link - here,
but I will try to be as brief as I can be.

So Lets see the battle, shall we?

Round 1

So we are facing a mixed damage team with a leveled up Djinn Chwala with 3 melee damage, thorns and 6 armor. Kind of bad news for us as we have a melee attacker in the front, which means he will get pummeled even more and not do damage because of Djinn Chwala's armor. Also the enemy has a tank heal in the face of his own Goblin Psychic and Affliction from the angry turtle magic dragon guy - Serpentine Mystic, and to top it all off a level 2 Djinn Biljka with 2 magic damage.
Good thing we brought the Mushroom Seer to mitigate some of their damage. Anyways let's see what happens.

1.png

So in round one our "tank" Mycelic Morphoid barely survives the enemy attacks with 1 hp until we have our turn to heal him up to 7 and take half of Djinn Chwala's hp. Goblin Thief manages to land a succesfull attack on Naga Assassin in the backline, because of Djinn Biljka's camouflage ability.

Round 2

2.png

As round 2 starts we have some more bad news as we have enraged Djinn Chwala and Naga Assassin, giving them some more melee damage and speed. Naturally Mycelic Morphoid kills himself from thorns after taking 6 damage from Naga Assassin and Djinn Chwala. Luckily for us we manage to attack first with Mushroom Seer and Goblin Psychic, before his Psychic manages to heal him and we take him down. Now that his team has much less damage, there is a glimmer of hope with our 2 heals. Unfortunately Serpentine Mystic lands an Affliction right away on the Failed Summoner and Goblin Thief starts missing the 8-speed Naga Assassin and get slapped in the face from her Backfire ability.

Round 3

3.png

Starting round 3 we have a Failed Summoner and a Furious Chicken staring at eachother. We exchange some attacks and heals, Goblin Thief misses Naga Assassin again and gets backfired, nobody dies and we're off to round 4.

Round 4

4.png

So Round 4 we have the "tanks" are close to dieing and thats what happens - we cant heal our Failed Summoner, cuz of the nasty Affliction and the Chicken gets healed because we are so slow, but manage to kill the chicken and bring the Serpentine Mystic to half hp thanks to the Magic Reflect ability of our now-dead Failed Summoner. Goblin Thief - Naga Assassin - Miss - Backfire. Off to round 5.

Round 5

Here, luckily for us Serpentine Mystic doesn't manage to land Affliction so all is fine and things are starting to look really good. Serpentine Mystic goes down and things are wrapping up to a win. Goblin Thief misses again.

Round 6

6.png

A case of Goblin Psychic stare-down. Attacks are exchanged, Goblins healed, and surprisingly we have landed a second successful attack on the Naga Assassin.

Round 7

7.png

Enemy Goblin Psychic goes down, Goblin Thief misses for the last time and kills himself, but its a clean win now.

Round 8, 9 & 10

As it is expected we have managed to win the match leaving us with 3 monsters versus 1. Void made it abit harder to kill him, but he stood no chance with 1 damage versus 2 healers.

Post battle thoughts: watching the battle after there are a few thing that I could've done better for the specific matchup. Given that the low-speed of Goblin Thief and the Enrage ruleset I should've gone with another magic attacker - perhaps a rented Doctor Blight to have affliction or one of the free Elven Mystic, Khmer Princess, or perhaps a rented Enchanted Pixie with flying to defend against opportunity? Probably any of those would've been a much better choice for the specific fight, but hey - it worked out.
If you have any other suggestions I would love to let me know in the comments.

Thanks for reading, sorry for the long post and hope you managed to read it till the end.
Have a great week everyone!

I think not only Mycelic Morphoid is perfect for an Equalizer battle, but also all the team you made!

It's a pretty good team to use in those battles.
