I was playing Splinterlands, considering which battle I wanted to share and then I came across this battle. I instantly knew. A battle with a strategy I have yet to see. A strategy which blew me away. One that I need to develop for myself. I stood little chance in this battle. But had my original plan worked, we might be talking differently.
The Ruleset

Aim True
Attacks will always hit. The monster's speed and ability will not impact the 100% hit chance.

Close Range
All monsters with ranged damage may hit from the first position.

Fog Of War
There is no Sneak, Snipe or Opportunity attacks. - Generally high speed magic or ranged attacks is favoured.
Elements available
Some very good options available within that ruleset and mana pool. With a good range of magic, melee and ranged options this should be a good battle for either Life, Death and Water.
I will select Water and will look at a Smash and Grab approach. Originally I was going for a Shatter and Smash but my Summoner was not the level I had hoped due to an expired rental.
Lineups
Possibilus The Wise
I think using Possibilus The Wise is a good strategy here to gain the Trample ability. Unfortunately I did not realise my level three rental had expired so I will need to renew that moving forward but typically this lineup has good success for me.
Coastal Sentry
A quick hitter with plenty of damage. With Double Strike we have an excellent ability which will hurt the opponent and with six health and four speed it is a decently fast monster too.
Flying Squid
I think this is an excellent pairing for Coastal Sentry. While Possibilus gives Reach, we now have added Trample which means this one-two combo up top make a formidable melee machine. Good damage and excellent health make this a decent secondary tank too.
Djinn Oshannus
Fast, healthy and reliable. Djinn Oshannus is an excellent magic card with Void, making it a great target to slow the opposing magic teams down. With good speed it should attack first.
Merdaali Guardian
Ensuring the lineup stays healthy is important and that is the job of the Merdaali Guardian. Unfortunately the lower level Summoner means that Merdaali does not get the Repair ability which would be awesome in combination with my next card.
Swamp Spitter
Repair is great. Double repair would be awesome with Merdaali too if that had worked out. But for now, some nice damage and good speed along with some armour make this a good choice for 7 mana.
Opposing Lineup
Elias Max Priutt
Water and Life as well as either Repair and Cleanse or Armoured Strike with Piercing. I think this may be the perfect time for this summoner. Should be a good battle from here.
Arkemis The Bear
This is a solid choice given the damage, health and Protect ability. A Repair / Cleanse strategy would be good, given I frequently use poison in my battles. Alternatively Armoured Strike would be an excellent combination here. It is an ability I have not toyed with too much either.
Corsair Bosun
I am looking at the armour here and alongside Eliass Max Pruitt this is the nasty card that I should be concerned with. Reach, Reflection Shield and excellent stats.
Deeplurker
Great health and damage for a 6 mana card. I'd like to see it at a higher level to take advantage of the benefits of a better Deeplurker but overall a decent 6 mana choice.
Nimbledook Explorer
With Protect, this is a zero attack card and the additional armour is not usually a major problem. But combined with Arkemis The Bear and Elias Max Pruitt, we have a deadly armour combination. I am starting to look at this card in a new light. - Fortunately, I have some copies of this in Gold Foil so at least it will be worthwhile to use from a SPS reward share purpose. Based on the opposing strategy, this is going to be a painful choice by the opponent. In this lineup.... ouch, great choice.
Celestial Harpy
A good opportunity card and it won't miss its attacks due to True Strike. Unfortunately the Opportunity element of the card will not apply due to the Fog of War ruleset but even still, it is a small mana cost for another extra card to bulk out the line up with bodies.
Torrent Fiend
For a freebie this is always a good idea. Soaking up a little extra damage in the backline is always useful, unless your opponent utilises Gladius or Bloodlust to attack the back line. In this case though, extra bodies at the back is a good thing for the opponent.
The Battle
Round 1
I went into the round hopeful. I mean I have plenty of damage on the table to offer. But immediately after my opening strikes, I ws hit with 10 damage from Armour Strike, removing my first position monster. Even with healing and Repair in play, I stood little chance.
Final Rounds
The following rounds I watched and rued my lack of Shatter. Had my original plan to use Shatter worked, I think this could have been a very different outcome overall. With my much higher speed, there was a good chance I would have taken victory.
Congratulations on a deserved victory for my opponent.
Thoughts
- I think this is a ridiculous amount of damage to be able to deal.
- To counter this, I would need to ensure the opponent has been Shattered to ensure they had no armour.
- This battle caught me by surprise but I see a very strong addition to a modern deck, especially with the dual element summoner. I think this is a line up I should aim to repeat for myself because I was sat there in absolute shock as it happened.
- I have added this as a rental for 2 days to see how it goes. Very interesting indeed.
- The jump in requirements for SPS at Gold is noticeable but my opponent would do well to increase their SPS stake or rental to improve their rewards. This is an awesome strategy and they should be rewarded for it.
