If there's one thing I've always liked about Splinterlands, it's the ability to shape my own strategy without being tied to a single set of cards. And when they announced the Custom Sets feature, I really thought it could be a game-changer in how we manage our decks.
The idea was great: offering more flexibility, allowing quick strategy swaps, making life easier for those who want to rent optimized collections, and even preparing better for future game modes.
But then reality hit.
The implementation, in my opinion, left a lot to be desired.
You have the option to create or rent a set. The available options are Chaos Legion, Riftwatchers, Rebellion, and a CUSTOM mode.
When selecting any set for rent, for example:
You’ll see multiple available sets from the chosen collection. You can check Chaos Legion - Core & Reward, which indicates all the cards included in this set, along with the owner and the amount of $DEC per day.
I chose Chaos Legion as an example to test. First, I noticed that there is a minimum level requirement for sets to be listed. Essentially, we're talking about the maximum level allowed for the Bronze league, which could also be decent for the Silver league.
You can pay the rental price in Credits or in $DEC, the game's token. But this is where I started questioning whether this feature actually provides value compared to other options available on the market.
The cost of renting an entire set using the Custom Sets tool doesn’t seem competitive when compared to what we can get on PeakMonsters. And when it comes to efficiency and cost savings, PeakMonsters is still way ahead.
As someone who frequently rents high-level sets for the Silver league and even some Gold Foil Chaos Legion cards, I realized that the cost-effectiveness of the official tool doesn't make much sense.
One of the biggest problems is that when using Custom Sets, you're forced to rent the entire set, even though several cards in it might be completely useless for your strategy.
On PeakMonsters, however, I can choose exactly what I need and pay only for that.
In other words, the official tool forces you to spend more on cards that you'll probably never use in a serious match.
Doesn’t make much sense, right?
I think the biggest mistake here was not providing real incentives for players to use the official Splinterlands tool. They could have implemented progressive discounts, perks for frequent renters, or even some kind of DEC cashback for those who use this option instead of third-party platforms.
As it stands, it feels rushed and not really designed with the player's experience in mind.
At the end of the day, of course, the tool has its value for those who want something more straightforward and convenient.
But for those who really care about efficiency and savings, PeakMonsters is still the best choice. Splinterlands could (and should) have made better use of this opportunity to create a rental system that truly makes sense within its own ecosystem.

É mostrado varias opções de conjuntos daquela coleção selecionada, você pode ver Chaos Legion - Core & Reward oque indica todas as cartas presentes nesse conjunto. Além do proprietário e a quantidade de $DEC por dia.
Peguei Chaos Legion como exemplo para testar. Primeiro, notei que existe um nível mínimo para que os conjuntos sejam listados. Basicamente, estamos falando do nível máximo permitido para a liga Bronze, o que também pode ser um nível decente para a liga Prata.
Você pode pagar o preço do aluguel em Créditos ou em $DEC, o token do jogo. Mas foi aí que comecei a me questionar se essa funcionalidade realmente entrega algo que justifique seu uso em comparação com outras opções disponíveis no mercado.
O custo de alugar um conjunto inteiro dentro da ferramenta Custom Sets não me parece competitivo quando comparado ao que conseguimos no PeakMonsters. E quando a gente fala de eficiência e economia, PeakMonsters ainda está muito à frente. Eu mesmo, que costumo alugar conjuntos de nível alto para a liga Prata e até mesmo algumas cartas Chaos Legion em Gold Foil, percebi que o custo-benefício da ferramenta oficial não faz muito sentido.
Um dos principais problemas é que, ao usar os Custom Sets, você é obrigado a alugar o conjunto completo, mesmo que várias cartas ali dentro sejam praticamente inúteis para sua estratégia.
No PeakMonsters, por outro lado, eu posso escolher exatamente o que preciso e pagar apenas por isso.
Ou seja, a ferramenta oficial te obriga a gastar mais com cartas que você provavelmente nunca vai usar em uma partida séria.
Não faz muito sentido, né?
Acho que o grande erro aqui foi não dar incentivos reais para quem utiliza a ferramenta do próprio Splinterlands. Poderiam ter criado descontos progressivos, vantagens para jogadores que alugam frequentemente ou até mesmo algum tipo de cashback em DEC para quem usa essa opção ao invés de recorrer a terceiros. Do jeito que está, parece que foi feito às pressas e sem muita preocupação com a experiência real do jogador.
No fim das contas, é claro que a ferramenta tem seu valor para quem quer algo mais prático e direto.
Mas para quem está realmente preocupado com eficiência e economia, o PeakMonsters continua sendo a melhor escolha. O Splinterlands poderia (e deveria) ter aproveitado muito melhor essa oportunidade para criar um sistema de aluguel que realmente fizesse sentido dentro do próprio ecossistema do jogo.

Nice guide, i also think peakmonsters is much better at the moment, especially for the more experienced players.
For the new players just want some cards to quickly play with, its sufficient. When those player are more experienced they will switch to peakmonsters imho.
