Hello! Thank you for reading this :)
For starters Splinterlands is a much more complex game unlike Magic: The Gathering(the one I'm used to play with). For instance there are different kinds of gameplay you will encounter when playing the game, an example of that would be mana cost. Ranging from 12-99 mana cost(from what I've experienced). and the second thing you need to consider is what type of Rule sets(game mode) you're playing, examples of that would be:
and many more! for complete Rule Sets, see it here: https://splinterlands.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Rule_Sets
Now for the guide :D
For games where you have mana caps of 12-14.
best choice would be going red!
For the Splinter it's really up to your personal choice :) I can't suggest any of that since both basic splinter has their own pros and cons. So.. choose the splinter that you are comfortable with :)
do this in order:
The Tank would be Cerberus
Card Info:
Damage: 2
Speed: 3
Health: 5
Mana Cost: 4
Ability: Heal
The damage dealer!
For the SECOND SPOT I would go for the Kobold Miner
Card Info: Level 1
Damage: 1
Speed: 2
Health: 3
Mana Cost: 2
Ability: Sneak
For the THIRD SPOT It's a tie really you either go for the Serpentine Spy or the Fire Beetle it really depends on the rule set if it's all melee then go for the Serpentine Spy but if not I prefer the Fire Beetle since it has Snipe and is a range monster it can attack from any position and targets enemy's range/magic monsters
Card Info: Level 1
Damage: 2
Speed: 3
Health: 1
Mana Cost: 3
Ability: Opportunity
Card Info: Level 1
Damage: 1
speed: 2
Health: 4
Mana Cost: 3
Ability: Snipe
With all the 3 Cards that is stated above the mana cost would equate to 12 including the summoner :D
miscellaneous
If you have an EXTRA MANA OR TWO
You can put a monster at the back namely Furious Chicken and Creeping Ooze
Card Info: Level 1
Damage: none(can't attack)
Speed: 1
Health: 1
mana Cost: 0
Ability: none
This Card is good at the end of your line up since it will eat the attack of the first monster that attack with a sneak ability.
Card Info: Level 1
Damage: none(can't attack)
Speed: 1
Health: 1
Mana Cost: 1
Ability: Slow
This Card is great for low mana cost battles and even in mid to high mana cost! This monster's ability is underwhelming if you just look at it. BUT if you play it YOU WILL FEEL THE POWER!! as it's ability SLOW'S ALL THE ENEMY'S MONSTERS SPEED BY 1! 1 isn't a big deal but in low mana battles this card helps you have the advantage as it helps you attack first since the enemy's monsters would have a slower attack.
Now for the battles that has a MANA CAP OF 15-19.
GO BLACK AND YOU'LL NEVER GO BACK LOL HAHAHA
For the summoner again it's up to your choice :) I can't suggest any of the 2 since they have pros and cons depending on the Rule Set that you are playing.
THE TANK!
For the Tank I would go for Haunted Spirit!
Card Info: Level 1
Damage: 2
Speed: 2
Health: 7
Mana Cost: 5
Ability: Heal
For the position 2 I choose the Death Elemental Since it has a magic attack that damages the health directly and ignores the armor and it can attack in the first position IF Haunted Spirit dies as it has magic damage
Card Info: Level 1
Damage: 1(Magic)
Speed: 3
Health: 2
Mana Cost: 3
Ability: Snipe
For the Third Position go for Twisted Jester
Card Info: Level 1
Damage: 2
Speed: 3
Mana Cost: 4
Ability: Snipe
For the Fourth Position go for the Skeleton Assassin
Card Info: Level 1
Damage: 1
Speed: 4
Health: 2
Mana Cost: 3
Ability: Sneak
IF you have a battle with 17 mana cap
You can go for the Undead Badger
Card Info: Level 1
Damage: 1
Speed: 3
Health: 1
Mana Cost: 2
Ability: Sneak
For the extra mana You can always go for the trusted Ooze and Chicken
