Fire Spitter Lore
Small but mighty, the Fire Spitters have recently descended upon the Dragon Splinter of Draykh-Nahka, where they fit right in. They come from a faraway exotic place only known as the Pocket Dimension. The Pocket Dimension has many key differences to the Splinterlands, but lots of things in common as well. Most of the monsters there are smaller than those native to the Splinterlands, including the Fire Spitter. However, even the smallest Fire Spitters can produce a magnificent blaze, large enough to easily incinerate a cottage in a few minutes.
Tactical Overview
The Fire Spitter is a solidly balanced card that's a welcome addition in your Dragon decks.
At only 4 Mana, all of it's stats are a solid bang for your "mana buck."
This dragon is a quick little bugger with 4 speed at level 1. He's sure to get attacks out quickly - likely before your opponent sees it coming.
It's ranged attack power of 2 is nothing to scoff at, capable of doing a healthy amount of damage from rear positions. However, the ranged attack power does limit this card to rear of field play under normal circumstances.
4 Health means that the Fire Spitter can absorb a decent number of blows in the back from units with the Sneak, Snipe, or Opportunity Abilities. Further, the Flying ability at Level 1 and Dodge at Level 6 means that this unit will be hard to touch with Melee and Ranged attacks period.
The Fire Spitter is an excellent unit to stick toward the rear of your formation to protect your flank while still dealing respectable damage in the process.
Fire Spitter Stats Breakdown by Level
Battle Overview
Ruleset:
Heavy Hitters: All monsters have the knock out ability
Lost Magic: Monsters with magic may not be used in battles.
From this ruleset, I was especially happy. to see the lost magic. Removing magic units gets rid of one of the Fire Spitters main vulnerabilities, which means the overall line up has less counters strategies to deal with - making this a great rule set for the Fire Spitter.
My Lineup:
Summoner: Daria Dragonscale

My Lineup Description:
Summoner: Daria Dragonscale
Daria is one of my favorite Dragon element summoners. Her +1 to Melee allows me to create a heavy hitting offensive lineup.
Position 1: Chain Golem
In my tank position is the strong and resilient Chain Golem from the neutral element.
This card is able to solidly serve as a tank in any deck with strong stats all around and the shield ability to reduce much of the damage it takes on the front lines.
Posotion 2: Fineas Rage
From the Fire element, Fineas Rage is a great support attacker with the reach ability keeping him useful from the very beginning of the battle.
His high health makes him useful for dealing with blast attacks or to step up as a secondary tank if the primary tank is destroyed.
Postion 3: Sand Worm
The sand worm brings a heavy melee attack power of 5 (further buffed by Daria to 6), respectable health of 5, but an unfortunately high mana count.
Since this battle has a solid amount of mana at play, I felt comfortble deploying the sand worm in amongst an already high mana count front line.
Normally, I'd use the Sand worm toward the rear, since it's Sneak ability allows it to attack from any position.
In this case I deployed it in the third position to ensure my Ranged attack units remained capable of attacking as long as possible in the battle.
Postion 4: Dragonling Bowman
The Dragonling was one of my last selected units - he was picked largely because of his mana count to maximize my mana usage, respectble health, and sneak ability to help mop of the rear of my opponents formation.
Position 5: Fire Spitter
Near the end of my lineup is the star of today's challenge - the Fire Spitter.
I placed the fire spitter here to help protect the rear in case my furious chicken fell, yet still far enough back that, if it came down to it, he would be able to get a few final shots off with a unit in front of him.
Position 6: Furious Chicken
Always one of my favorite cards due to it's usefulness and 0 mana cost, the furious chicken is placed in the rear to help draw attacks from monsters with the Sneak, Snipe, or Opportunity abilities.
In this case, think of it as some extra "Back Armor" for the Fire Spitter.

Battle Debrief
What Happened?
In this battle, my preperations to secure the rear were unneaded. None of the enemy usits had Sneak, Snipe, or Opporunity.
This means that all the attacks were concentrated toward the front, with 2 units hitting my second positioon as well with the blast ability.
This worked out great for me as the Chain Golem & Fineas Rage can both take a solid beating and keep kicking AND my rear ranged battalion was able to press the attack safely.
By the time the Chain Golem and Finneas Rage were gone, the opponent didn't stnd a chance against my full health Sand Worm with 6 melee attack and the ranged attackers at the rear.
The Fire spitter did a great job, and yet we didn't really get to see if my strategy for placement made much of a difference because we didn't have to deal with the problems I prepared for.
What Would I Do Differently?
At this point I don't know if I'd do anything differently.
I've found that winning battles are the hardest ones to learn from, because you don't see what you did wrong as easily.
We tend to learn most from our failures as we diagnose what went wrong to improve for the next time.
Final Opinion
I really liked the Fire Spitter and believe it can hold up really well in many battles in a Dragon deck.
I believe I'll be using it more often in the future.
