Introduction to Tournaments
Tournament is a competitive event in Splinterlands. In this sub-game, players are matched against one another in different times with different rules and preferences. It is another layer of competition aside from the Ranked Play (Modern & Wild) that rewards players with SPS or DEC. In this post, we will discuss how to participate in a tournament in Splinterlands. Let's dive in.
What are Tournaments?
All Tournaments in Splinterlands has a schedule, minimum player count, format (Modern or Wild), league, card limitations and entry requirements. In order to participate in one, players should understand these terms. To see the existing tournaments, select Tournaments at the Play menu above the screen.
Types of Tournaments
There are three types of Tournaments in Splinterlands - Single Elimination, Anytime and Sit N Go.
Single Elimination
Single Eliminations start at the scheduled time and when the minimum number of participants is met. This type of tournament requires players to Check-In 15 minutes before the tournament's schedule. Failure to check in before the time would mean disqualification.
Single Elimination tournaments has their schedule stated at the left side.
Anytime
Anytime Tournaments does NOT require a Check-In. This tournament also starts at the scheduled time when the minimum number of players is met. When the tournament starts, players has 24 hours to submit their team in their matches every round. This tournament lasts 2 rounds and placement is then determined by the total number of wins, draws, and losses.
Anytime Tournaments has a indicator at the top of the schedule located at the left.
Sit N Go
Sit N Go Tournaments are special types of Anytime and Single Elimination tournaments. When set, Sit N Go tournaments will either start at the scheduled time if the minimum number of participants are reached or will automatically begin as soon as the maximum number of participants is fulfilled.
Tournament Specifications
The details of a tournament are specified in the Tournaments list. Choice of format, special rules, varying fees, prizes, and prize types are the typical details stated here.
Format
Tournaments allow only one format to be used - Modern or Wild. This can be seen at the bottom of the Tournament Name. Modern format allows the use of the two latest sets of cards. As of this writing, Chaos Legion and Rebellion are the sets allowed in Modern. For Wild format, all card sets are allowed to be used.
Rules
Tournaments are also limited by the League. This implements the Summoner Level Caps that restricts the level of cards to be used. Another rule is the type of foil the cards should have: All Cards or Gold Foil Cards Only. The next rule is the Card Set Restrictions. A tournament can allow a card set or group of card sets to used (i.e. Chaos Legion Only, Alpha Cards Only etc.)
Entry Requirements
Each tournament has Entry Requirements. These requirements are SPS Staked, Collection Power and Entry Fee
Rewards
Tournaments vary in rewards. They sometimes offer prizes in SPS or DEC.
How to Participate in Tournaments?
At the right side, View and Enter buttons are located. View button allows players to see the Tournament Details. The Enter button, on the other hand, allows players to join the tournament.
It is recommended to click on View first before Joining the Tournament. Here players can see the full details and requirements of the tournament.
Once the player enters a tournament, a dialog box will appear stating the schedule of the tournament and an option to Add to Calendar.
An ENTERED button will appear at the right, when that tournament is joined.
