Major Update: Free To Play Is Now Here!
What a Glorious day of being a Splinterlands player! We now have what we've all been waiting for - Free To Play mode in Splinterlands. This came with the Tuesday update with the following changes made to cater the ability to earn GLINTs and collect cards without the purchase of a Spellbook:
How To Register
For the longest time, in order to play in Splinterlands, you have to buy a Spellbook. But not anymore. Starting today, everyone can now play the game. All you need is to register with just your email:
If you already have accounts from other Web3 games, you can use your Crypto Wallet to register. After entering the Username and Email, you can now click on Create Password. Passwords should be at least 8 characters long and have at least a Capital letter, Special Character and Lowercase letter. Afterwards, Splinterlands will check if the Username is already taken. This is to ensure your Username is unique.
You just need to enter a new username in order to proceed.
Once you are registered, you will see your name with the "LITE" at the end. This is to indicate that you are using a F2P account. It will be removed once you convert your account into a P2E account (i.e. purchasing a Spellbook).
Free To Play Perks
Before we proceed, it is important to note that there Crypto and Soulbound (Non-Crypto) assets in game. SPS and DEC are Crypto tokens that can be earned by a P2E account. Cards in the market are NFTs but every player can have these regardless if you are F2P. GLINTs are also tokens but they are Soulbound. Now that we have that out of the way, here are the perks of a F2P player:
- You can earn GLINTs from Ranked Battle wins. You have to be in Bronze League in order to achieve this. New players start at Novice League.
- You can use the Starter cards (S) as base cards for playing Ranked. You can increase your collection by buying cards in the market using Credits or buying Draws using GLINTs in the GLINT Shop.
- In order to learn the basics, you can choose the Quest Tutorials.
Closing
Free To Play is a huge step for massive adoption of players in the Web3 space. If you are here as a new player, you will find the game fun and entertaining. And once you get the hang of it, please do purchase a Spellbook to avail all of the perks as a P2E player.
