What To Expect On The Next Modern Format
Modern Format is consists of the two most recent sets of the game. The current Modern format has the Chaos Legion and Rebellion sets. This format also includes the reward cards, mini set and promo cards of those set. Chaos Legion has the mini-set RiftWatchers while Rebellion do not have one. This coming April, Conclave Arcana will be introduced as the newest major set. It will push out Chaos Legion of Modern format making the new Modern format of Q2 2025 made of Rebellion and Conclave Arcana. In this post, we will discuss what to expect from the new modern format and what changes can it bring to the game.

New Modern Format Expectations
Rebellion Set Will Remain

This is no brainer. As we all know Rebellion will remain as it is recent major card set as of this writing. What we tend to forget, however, is the fact that Rebellion is only 2nd to Chaos Legion with the highest collection of cards. We should expect only few cards will be used from this set unlike CL with so many cards to choose from. This is due to Chaos Legion being over-printed and Rebellion having no mini-set. The mini-set of Rebellion was later introduced as Soulbound reward cards instead. Rebellion will be the remaining cards we will be familiar with and the cards we will be pairing with the new major set.
Conclave Arcana Might Be The Next Chaos Legion

Speaking of the new set, with how things are going right now, it seems Conclave Arcana will have a large collection of cards comparable to Chaos Legion. The basis of this is the fact that the team is introducing three new types of packs aside from the Standard Booster packs. The new types are Legendary, Alchemist and Starter packs. Standard Booster packs are the packs we are used to that contains 5 cards with 1 guaranteed rare card and chances to be gold or legendary. Legendary packs contain 5 cards with one guaranteed to be legendary. Meanwhile Alchemist packs have 5 cards also with one guaranteed to be gold. Starter pack is a different type of pack that contains 25 cards for 5K DEC. This would contain only commons and rares with chances of gold and legendary. There was also a proposal passed that will make Starter packs contain 5 cards with one guaranteed rare for 1K DEC. With the expected influx of new players brought about the Marketing team, a lot of packs and cards will also be expected to be circulated. We might not be sure about the new players but with the affordability of Starter packs alone, commons and rares might flood the market.
No More Mini-Sets

With Rebellion Set as the reference, the team might forgo mini-sets from now on. This is just pure speculation but this makes sense as we now have Soulbound reward cards that can introduce new set of cards. If we taking the lore as basis for mini-sets (Like Chaos Legion's success lead to the opening of Rifts, hence RiftWatchers), it would still be meaningful to have Soulbound Reward cards to be part of the lore continuum.
Conclave Arcana Innovations

There are no concrete plans yet or at least revealed for what Conclave Arcana can bring to the battle. If we going by the route prepared by Rebellion by introducing dual element summoners and units and Summoner tactics, we can assume these things:
Team-based abilities. Splinterlands made a foreshadowing of this mechanic by introducing factions during Splinterfest. For those who aren't familiar, cards can belong to factions with abilities that affects those that belong to it. They made something like this with Kindred Spirit and Kindred Will. Kindred Spirit gives units with Kindred Will the ability True Strike while Kindred Will gives those with Kindred Spirit with Ambush ability. Such a lovely couple of abilities. The team also introduced the Blasphemy of Uul, wherein the card's ranged attack increases by +1 for each allied 'fiends'. We might see more of these abilities and the like in Conclave Arcana.
Terrain effects. If Land will come into play, we might expect some new cards to introduce terrain effect-based abilities. Meaning, we might get some cards that will change the terrain or weather in the game or cards that has abilities that is effective or changes something depending on the terrain or land.
Spells. This is well over-due in my opinion. Hopefully by CA, we can have some spells albeit produced only by Land owners. Zap immunity spell anyone?
Closing
There are so many things to speculate about when it comes to the new Modern format. This fills us with excitement and anticipation for the thigns to come. What will it bring to the meta? Will I get another Gold Foil Legendary? Rank 1 on leaderboards? In any case, all we can do is to prepare and wait for the updates and changes.
