It was discussed on the recent @bobaphet Splinterland 101 regarding unused Land where @mattclarke commented that he knew of a Player, who is deceased, and that Land will never be actively used.
I also recalled the laughs from @thepeoplesguild & @roguepatton discussing how cool it would be to meet up in a Tavern on one of their Lands.
It made me recall previous discussions over the Splinterland Years about how cool if we had Boss Battles. All of the other game formats that may finally fall within Splinterlands.
Then what if all of our action occurs within Praetoria - where Land Owners, whether active or not, form part of the tapestry that is Splinterlands. Sponsoring a Brawl here, a Battle there, a Tavern, an undeveloped Land holding a Quest or a Mission....
Splinterlands has always been a game that thrives on strategy, resourcefulness, and a deep connection to its fantasy world. But what if the Land—those coveted plots that players own—took center stage? Imagine a world where battles aren’t fought in abstract arenas but on the very soil of Splinterlands, where Land shapes the game’s economy, its rewards, and even its stories. Welcome to a vision of Splinterlands where Land is the heartbeat of the game.
Land: The Foundation of Battles
Picture this: A grand Arena rising from the rugged terrain of a Legendary Land plot. The crowd roars as powerful summoners unleash their forces, each move resonating with the magic of the Land itself. This is the future of Splinterlands, where Arenas built upon Land dictate the caliber of battles they host.
Common Land: Humble beginnings, perfect for Bronze and Silver league battles. These Arenas are the proving grounds for rising champions.
Rare Land: With its verdant fields and ancient ruins, Rare Land opens its gates to Gold league combatants.
Epic Land: A step above, its mystic energy draws Diamond league warriors to its battlefields.
Legendary Land: Reserved for the elite, this Land hosts only the fiercest Diamond and Champion league matches, where legends are forged.
The Landowner’s role is pivotal. By building an Arena, they don’t just provide a stage for epic clashes—they also share in the spoils. A portion of match rewards flows to the Arena owner, a tangible recognition of their contribution to the community. And that’s not all. Imagine banners fluttering in the wind, emblazoned with the marks of sponsors. These sponsorships bring life and income to the Arenas, creating a vibrant ecosystem around each battle.
When Land Lies Dormant: A Call to Adventure
But what of the Lands left undeveloped? What of the plots whose owners have moved on or simply cannot participate? These Lands become opportunities—untamed frontiers brimming with potential.
Bounty Missions
Imagine exploring the rugged expanse of an undeveloped Common Land plot. A mysterious figure approaches, offering you a bounty to clear out marauding beasts or vengeful spirits. Each bounty is tied to the Land’s rarity:
Common Land: Straightforward tasks, perfect for solo adventurers seeking modest rewards.
Rare Land: The challenges grow steeper, with cunning AI enemies standing between you and your prize.
Epic Land: Complex, multi-stage missions that demand strategy and precision.
Legendary Land: Epic showdowns against bosses that test the mettle of even the most seasoned players.
These missions are more than just battles; they are stories waiting to unfold. A Death-themed Land might be haunted by restless undead, while a Fire plot could be overrun by molten beasts. Each Land has its own identity, its own dangers, and its own treasures.
Boss Battles
And then there are the bosses. Picture this: A decayed Epic Land plot becomes the lair of an Ancient Wyrm. To claim its treasure, you’ll need a team of allies and a strategy to match its might. These encounters offer high stakes and high rewards—crafting materials, exclusive items, or perhaps even rare NFTs.
Building Communities: Taverns and Beyond
Land isn’t just about battles. It’s about connection. Imagine wandering into a Tavern built on a Rare Land plot. The air buzzes with chatter, and a Quest Board on the wall is laden with opportunities. This is the heart of the community—a place where players come together to share stories, plan strategies, or simply relax.
Taverns: More Than Just a Building
A Tavern is more than a resting spot. It’s a hub for:
Guild Integration: Guilds can sponsor Taverns, offering exclusive perks to their members.
Quest Boards: Players can pick up bounty missions or team up for boss battles.
Mini-Games: Try your luck at dice games or solve card puzzles for small rewards.
Spectator Events: Watch live battles from nearby Arenas or place bets on the outcome.
And the possibilities don’t end there. Market stalls could spring up, offering rare crafting materials or Land-specific treasures. Crafting stations could allow players to forge unique items, creating a bustling economy centered on Land.
Seasonal Events: The Land Awakens
The story of Splinterlands doesn’t stand still. Seasons bring change, and with them, new opportunities. Mechanics like Conflict Wagons also come into play as a vehicle to help move the stories forward, or to help create a more simple mechanic to minimise the work required.
Land Raids
A cry goes out across the realm: Legendary Land plots are under siege! Players must band together to repel invading forces and earn unique seasonal rewards.
Territory Wars
Guilds clash over neutral Land plots, vying for temporary control and the riches they hold. These wars are more than battles; they are epic sagas that define the season. This helps connect Guilds to Praetoria as well.
Land Quests
From gathering rare resources to uncovering hidden lore, Land Quests tie players to the world in meaningful ways. Each quest is a chance to explore, to discover, and to leave your mark on Splinterlands.
A Future Built on Land
This vision of Splinterlands transforms Land from a static asset into a dynamic, living foundation for the game. Arenas bring battles to life. Taverns foster community. Bounties and boss battles offer endless adventures. And through it all, Landowners and adventurers alike find new ways to connect, to compete, and to thrive. Sponsors, such as Social Media Personalities, could fly a banner on Battles, much like we do for Tournaments and Guild Brawls.
Just ruminating on the potential for Land & how to best ensure it is utilised, particularly, when the owners have let it fall into ruin.
The stage is set. The Land is calling. Will you answer?

I guess the challenge for Land is that it splits their resources as if they are creating / maintaining 2 games. I hope they are able to sustain it without sacrificing quality. Long term design and thinking is important.
yes, i agree, it would take many $SPS lining up in the sky to enable such possibilities. But, who know? All it takes is an opportunity to arise that makes it all make sense.
We are still to see Mage Wagons getting back into action again. I purchased a few additional ones after watching @aftersound video a while back.
there's so many paths that Splinterlands can go down 😀
