CHAOS KNIGHT

image.png

Chaos Knight is a really strong card, she fills the gap between SS Warrior/Blinding Reflector and Shieldbearer, where at times, it was difficult to decide on a solid mid mana tank for Life, as sometimes Shieldbearer was just, too much at certain mana costs, and the others didn't feel like 'enough'.

Chaos Knight fits the role of an Offensive Tank with a higher damage potential, and works for making Life a more offensive splinter, which goes hand in hand with General Sloan's new strategies of annihilating everything in sight:

Chaos Knight is the Round Shield that protects your team, AND strikes back. Shieldbearer is the magnificent Tower Shield that nothing gets past, but he's not exactly punching his weight offensively.

This gives the Life Splinter a bit more dynamics for an offensive Life team at low and mid mana.

First, some info on Chaos Knight:

THEMEChaos Knight
EditionCHAOS
RarityCOMMON
SplinterLIFE
Attack TypeMelee
Chaos Knights are most often found at the front line of the Chaos Legion's invading forces, although they are sometimes enlisted to defend garrisons, leadership, and other high-value assets. They are heavily armored and wield massive battle axes that are able to cut down even the mightiest of foes.

Chaos Knight is an offensive Tank with the Shield Ability, which reduces the damage of all melee attacks by 50% (Rounded Up), their base stats are 2 Melee, 2 Speed, 3 Armor, and 4 Health for 6 Mana, this puts them as a fairly effective tank with decent offense and a '14' health pool against Melee and Ranged attackers at its most ideal, however, Chaos Knight is shut down by Magic quite easily.

Once she hits level 3, she gains +1 Melee, becoming a much more offensive Tank, but her next ability gains are what makes her a particularly an aggressive tank:

At Level 5, she gains the ability Giant Killer which makes her deal 2x damage against monsters with over 10 Mana cost, this makes her particularly effective for her cost against things like Dark Ha'on, Magnor, and Uriel. Her main weakness here is that, often times you are burning mana, and there is a lot of risk in predicting a 10+ Mana monster, as there are very few: This becomes more common as you reach higher leagues though.

Them, at level 9, she gains Inspire, becoming the 'new Silvershield Knight' in this sense, although the two play totally differently outside of Inspire itself.

Her final stats at Level 10 are 3 Melee, 3 Speed, 5 Armor, 6 Health, Shield, Giant Killer, and Inspire

She costs about $0.07 per BCX in her Normal Foil variant, and about $1.34 per BCX for a Gold Foil.

**LEVEL COSTS**
Level 3 costs about **$1** for Normal Foil and **1.34** for GF this is where she gains **+1 Melee**
Level 5 costs **$4.20** for Normal Foil and **$6.50** for GF this is where she gains **Giant Killer**
At Level 9, which costs about **$21** for a Normal Foil, and just over **$36** for GF, she gets **Inspire**
Max Level costs **$28 for Normal and about $50 for Gold** (based on 1 BCX prices)

*Keep in mind that higher BCX Cards come with discounts, this is the math for purchasing 1 BCX Cards, which you should NOT do if you're planning to level.*

Investing in Normal Foils: In my opinion, as a Common Tank in the Life Splinter, Chaos Knight is going to suffer as an investment worthy card: It is heavily printed, has a LOT of powerful competitions, and will inevitably get replaced by newer tanks in future sets. Does this mean she's a bad card? No. But it also means that from an investment standpoint, I would NOT be purchasing Chaos Knights

Investing in Gold Foils: Here's where it gets dicey: Chaos Knight is a really powerful card, and a great early tank with Shield, making it a great beginner tank, and its biggest weakness right now is that Magic almost entirely dominates the lower ranks. This makes her a difficult card to recommend on this premise, but I DO recommend her on the opposite premise: If Magic ever falls from the meta and gives way for a Ranged/Melee meta, Chaos Knight will dominate the Lower Leagues, and Shieldbearer will be one of, if not the best tank in the game, period. Both of these cards suffer from the meta they are currently in and still perform extremely well

That being said, if you've got more budget available to you, Chaos Knight, a GF Common, might not be the best choice.

Bronze: 10/10: In my opinion, Chaos Knight is probably most beneficial in Bronze League, especially when accounting for the older cards, and the starter set as a whole: They are a solid tank, which allows you to play Life moderately effectively in Low/Mid Mana, which was previously very difficult to do within the Starter set. Chaos Knight and the 1 Mana cards bring a lot of Value to Life's low mana battles that it previously didn't have without significant additional purchases of monsters and legendaries within the Life splinter. In my opinion, if you're playing in Bronze, a GF is a no brainer for this card, as you will be using it regularly, and it's level 3 gives +1 Melee and makes it an even better Bronze card.

Silver: 7/10: Silver unlocks a bit more versatility in Chaos Knight, allowing it to deal more damage to 10 Mana plus cards, however, it doesn't cover many of Chaos Knight's particular weaknesses and makes it a less usable card as a result. That being said, I think at least a 1 BCX GF is worthwhile to have of Chaos Knight in Silver. This will give you a good deal of power when you get to utilize it, and the 10% bonus is more valuable in Silver than Gold.

Gold: 5/10: I think Chaos Knight starts to lose a lot of viability up here, both in terms of stats and in terms of viability, you're facing some powerful decks with magic cards being more plentiful, and Chaos Knight is a much easier card to eat through in a lot of situations. Situationally though, Chaos Knight is very powerful, the only issue is if you have a Shieldbearer leveled, it will almost always be the better option for your team from here on out.

Diamond/Champion: 4/10: I don't play in Diamond/Champion, so this is largely speculation on my part: Inspire makes Chaos Knight more of a supporting Tank, but it faces the same problems as Gold, even MORE so. In my opinion, this card becomes less and less viable as you upgrade. This is mostly because of the magic heavy meta, and that there are a huge number of tools to eliminate Chaos Knight quickly up here, along with a lot of much more powerful tanks to choose from for different situations.

With Chaos Knight, you can generally use any Summoner out of Life, but a few standout as particularly good choices:

I think that Peakrider is a great choice for Life with Chaos Knight, as it grants a large amount of Armor, and weakens Ranged, acting as a foil to Sloan, Selenia Sky, Prince Rennyn, and Yodin. This makes him a solid choice for Chaos Knight specifically, especially in Lost Magic and Close Ranged

You were probably expecting Chanseus, who is also a very powerful Life Summoner for Chaos Knight, but I opted to showcase a more affordable card that suits Chaos Knight in lower mana battles: Lorna Shine grants a single protection, allowing your low mana Chaos Knight to shake off some crucial magic damage, or a powerful attack. This goes a long way in Low Mana, but becomes a weaker and weaker option in High Mana, where Chanseus may be a better option.

Dragons have some other, versatile options:

image.png image.png

Kitty gives Chaos Knight something crucial: Accuracy, Speed, and Sustain, Kitty is always going to be a solid choice in regards to a tank card, and as such, you will often see me recommend Byzantine Kitty in these situations, as Kitty is the perfect card for any Tank.

Daria is a fantastic, hyper offensive option for this card, and just becomes more and more powerful the higher you level: Between +1 Melee, Inspire, and Giant Killer, Chaos Knight becomes a very dangerous Melee unit that can completely sweep teams in terms of damage output. Having a threatening Shield Tank up front in melee only or in the back in Sneak only is always a fun way to thrash your opponent.

Position 1 or Position 6

Look, he's a Tank, he does tanky things, he has lots of health and armor, put him up front.
If you expect a Sneak team or Melee Attacks from Anywhere or Super Sneak, put him in the back maybe to punish sneak, this works especially well because many cards who can sneak attack are melee and ranged, there are very few magic sneaks.

  1. Armored Up is sort of a double edged sword, you gain more defense, but it also hurts your damage, but that's okay with a Shield Tank, as you're getting 'twice' the armor, in terms of effective health, and that can add up really quickly.
  2. Evens allows the use of Chaos Knight
  3. Reverse Speed is always good for a slower, hard hitting tank.

image.png image.png image.png

  1. Odds force Chaos Knight to sit out.
  2. No Abilities basically makes him just a Blinding Reflector for more mana: Don't use him here.
  3. Poison eats right through his Shield and Armor, so he doesn't have a lot of survivability in these matchups.

Unprotected, Noxious Fumes, 20 Mana, and Death and Water banned.

I had a feeling that my opponent would be playing a Fire team, as that tends to be one of the better teams to utilize for Poison, especially when Water is removed, and you don't have cards like Xenith Monk, Almo Cambio, and lv. 2 Harklaw.

That of course means that they would be playing their team in mostly Melee, and Chaos Knight is all for that.

My opponent appears to have messed up his team order, and maybe put it together last second as he was running out of time: His Scavo Chemist is unfortunately in the front, where his Antoid Platoon should've been, this basically negates Antoid's damage and prevents Scavo from lasting a bit longer to cleanse somebody else. Furthermore, Antoid is reliant on Armor, and does not do well in Poison matchups... That being said, I suppose Chaos Knight is as well, so there's that.

Still, I won due largely in part to the presence of Cleanse and Heal, along with a Healer who was protected from an initial sneak attack by the Furious Chicken, thanks chicken!

I have a hard time with this card. I usually throw the Pelacor Conjurer as my cheap tank Chaos Knight is definitely better if you're not expecting any magic attacks.
