General Sale is less than 24 Hours away!!!
I don't know about you but I'm so excited!!
So it looks like the water one, uh, well, fizzled out. Typical Water, agh. I'm throwing a link here I think a lot of people missed it due to the bot attack on Discord and restricted access to posting in channels, likewise links were very dangerous that day, in particular, a Discord NITRO Link. Be sure to check it out, the Water one was quite fun; this one is pretty fun too... if it were a person it'd be a fungi. Wait, wait, don't leave please!
Time for EARTH SCIENCE; Let's ROCK
As usual, we'll talk about my opinions, thus far, on playing with the CL Cards, how I feel about them in both a Modern and Wild context as well as some, small, opinions on the lore and art; It's time for Earth, who both massively empowered Mylor, and also massively reduced the need to have a Mylor at the same time.
Consider these tiny little analysis pieces on these CL cards and how I think they'll do in each meta.
"Mycelic Invaders"
LEGENDARIES
FUNGUS FIEND | Chaos Legion | Legendary
- So he doesn't get much benefit from the Earth summoners, the best of which would be Llama and Lyanna who give him an HP buff. This isn't a bad thing: a 0 Mana doesn't really need synergy anyways.
- You'll love him in Divine Shield, Armored, and Equalizer anywhere where you can increase the tankiness of this 0 Mana card, he's a great play. He's also solid as a throwaway in Opportunity
- Fungus Fiend, like the other Fiends, is a great generalist card with a decent ability at the end of its upgrades, but by being a 0 Mana, he's not specifically useful in any situation over another: If you have the space, you should put him in.
Fungus Fiend has a lot going on in his design, with very stark lighting and very sharp shapes; I like the small mushroom spores growing off of him in areas, and wish there were a few more to ease the eye a bit, but it's still an awesome looking, harsh card.
QUEEN MYCELIA | Chaos Legion | Legendary
- Her Protect+Amplify combo makes her an absolutely god-tier card for Mylor, and one of the best non-healing supports in the Earth Splinter and possibly even the game. Maybe. Probably not but it sure feels that way. Eastwood might see some more meta use if this monstrosity becomes more common place.
- She's good, like stupid good. Magic gives her great synergy with Obsidian as well
- She's especially good in Armored, where she ignores Armor Equalizer, where she becomes a tank, and in Little League and No Melee, where she can absolutely thrash the opponent: A cheaper Wavesmith for a stronger Magic Spam comp. shudders
Queen Mycelia is gorgeously disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. Absolutely eerie. Absolutely visceral. Get her out of my face, but at the same time, look at that absolutely magnificent translucent to the blood red of her hands, god DANG. I LOVE it.
IZA THE FANGED | Chaos Legion Air Drop | Legendary
- You guys are in a world of pain in Wild format when somebody with Prince Rennyn gets a hold of this card; I'm telling you she's going to be in nearly every Rennyn team possible.
- This thing is a beast in Fog of War, Close Ranged, Little League, hell, even No Abilities if leveled. Throw her in Equalizer too
- I really hope I get this card, although I think her usability in Modern is limited due to lack of synergy with many of the modern Summoners in Earth and Dragon; That's okay though, she'll work with Kitty
I love her, I think she has tons of style and flair, and a great personality for the card represented. She looks cocky, arrogant, and an absolutely miserable person to be around; but she's confident and arrogant for all the right reasons and look, if she gets the job done I don't care. This is the sneaky snake we all wanted. Uraeus is great too though don't get me wrong. Snake Squad.
EPICS
ACID SHOOTER | Chaos Legion | Epic
- Acid Shooter has synergy with Wizard of Eastwood, who gets rid of armor so that Acid Shooter can well... shoot acid. Cripple and Poison later on are an insane combination, but Acid Shooter needs some Piercing or no Armor to really connect and ramp up.
- These 2 Mana epics are crucial to your low mana game across nearly all leagues. They all are stacked with great debuffs and killer value for their mana and you should get them while you can.
- This is a card you wanna use in a few different rulesets: Unprotected lets Acid Shooter go to town on enemies, His decent health and speed for his mana makes him a good throw on for Close Ranged, and he ignores Fog of War. He's also a great pick in Equalizer
I love how panicked he looks: This man cannot control this weapon, imagine if a more competent person were equipped with this loogie launching doomsday device. This isn't the Villain we want, but it's the Villain we deserve.
HUNTER JARX | Chaos Legion | Epic
- Hunter Jarx and Obsidian don't really get along, you know who does though? Prince Rennyn and Wizard of Eastwood, they like Hunter Jarx and his tanky, rangey goodness.
- He's basically a Level 4 Mantoid at lv. 1. You know how often you should be using Mantoid? This guy is better.
- Great in Blast Rulesets, where his snipe just decimates opponents. Throw him in Close Range and Reverse Speed as well. Heck, he has the stats to back it up, throw him in Fog of War and No Abilities anyways that's how Jarx rolls.
Jarx's lore shows that he's a werewolf who can transform and attack up close. His art does a great job of hinting at his werewolf origin, and being a hunter AND a werewolf is an awesome mashup. My biggest disappointment in this card is that he does not have a Melee Attack added on (think 1 Melee, 3 Range) or that he does not have Close Range, as this would showcase his lore better, in being able to transform into a Werewolf up close and fight in Melee.
Also he's probably scary when he transforms like RARGH:
GRUND | Chaos Legion | Epic
- Grund doesn't need summoners' help, Grund have TWO HAMMER THINGIES. BIG HAM GO BAM. (Pair him with Wizard of Eastwood if the ARMOR thingies stops his HAMMER THINGIES)
- Grund hit Mylor, Mylor hit back, Grund hit again, Mylor hit back! (Don't use him against Mylor, you'll die.)
- Trample and Cripple on a Double Strike monster like th- BIG HAM GO BAM
- Put him in everything; he'll kill me if I don't say this (Cough Melee Only, Super Sneak, Opportunity, Stampede, Melee Attack From Anywhere, Lost Magic but don't use him in Equalizer or Poison Unless you have Llama. Then, just go to town. Llama Grund is an absolute storm. Watch out for Giant Killer and Deathblow.
I love Grund, he's Gex the Gecko all grown up, who spent every waking second sharpening his sheer bulk and strength instead of his wit. He may not have many clever one-liners to say now, but he's gunna hit you with his hammer thingy. Okay Grund, just don't give your hammer thingy to this guy:
Also, why is he so fast
RARES
MYCELIC SLIPSPAWN| Chaos Legion | Rare
- Use Slipspawn with Obsidian, Kitty, and Delwyn, you want sustain or damage with this card, and +1 Magic is always a powerful choice no matter the mana.
- She faces some competition from Centauri Mage, but in reality this is just a chance for them to join forces in high mana. Use Slipspawn in Opportunity and Centauri in No Melee to handle opportunity attackers and ranged attackers alike.
- Her low speed, and magic make her great in Reverse Speed, Poison, and No Melee, use her in Opportunity, Blast, and Snipe as well to stop and manipulate their attacks to one area.
Mycelic Slipspawn's brain kind of looks like honey comb, I have to ask though, does she really need boobs? or the appearance of boobs? .-. Love the card but uh...
You thought I was going to use an Amongus GIF didn't you? Cuz of the Sussy Baka? That's just cuz I like Breaking Bad you FOOLS >:D Maybe next time
GOBLIN TOWER | Chaos Legion | Rare
- He's, at least, I think, almost solely here for Prince Rennyn and Selenia Sky. Somebody sell me on this card seriously, I think he's hilarious but I just never use him.
- He's pretty decent in Divine Shield and Close Range Rulesets, where he doesn't immediately become 7 mana of uselessness. He's also a pretty decent card in Snipe and Reverse Speed where he suddenly becomes extremely threatening. Finally, I guess he's pretty good in Equalizer. Don't use him in Earthquake, Poison, or Fog of War/No Abilities... or do? I guess. I'll take a free win.
- All of this goes out the window as he levels: This thing is a MONSTER once he's leveled. You just HAVE to level him or he sucks. 5 Ranged with Blast, and being able to have that boosted to 6, in snipe rounds this card would be catapulting 6 + 3 + 3 damage at its opponent, holy crap.
10/10 Art, comedy level is over 9000. They've assemble an army of Goblins who are wielding pots and pants and utensils, which I assume are the source of the 5 Ranged damage plus blast that this card deals: Somebody melt down those pots and make weapons for our other cards because apparently their spears and great swords only do 3 damage, but Goblin Pots, goblin pots are S Tier metals that can cut through diamond.
REGAL PERYTON | Chaos Legion | Rare
The Regal Peryton, of the Florida Perytons. I'm using a lot of cartoon jokes from like 2003, gosh I feel old. Peryton is an awesome card, and has one of the coolest crystalline/vector art styles I've seen on any of the recent cards and I want MORE like this. It also helps that Peryton, while simple, is an absolutely killer fast magic card in a very slow magic meta for Earth
- Peryton has such high speed that he/she is a solid choice for almost any Earth summoner, however, obviously, Delwyn, Kitty, and Obsidian are preferred, due to enhanced murder and dodge.
- This card pairs really nicely with a few speed debuffs and becomes an absolute nightmare for sneak attackers to hit, due to its huge speed, speed debuffs, and Flying.
- I like using him in Earthquake, No Melee, Super Sneak, and Snipe/Opportunity. I do NOT recommend using this guy in Reverse Speed unless your goal is to miss the broad side of a barn
Like I said, I am absolutely enthralled with this vector geometric style, as it is done very subtly and gently. It's very pretty to look at, like an aurora. Ooooh, pretty.
That breeze just now was him teleporting behind you and blowing you up in a blast of sparkly, pretty magic. You're already dead.
MYCELIC INFANTRY | Chaos Legion | Rare
- He's a really solid Earth card for Mylor, especially in Lost Magic, he's also pretty good with Llama and Eastwood
- He gains Giant Killer and Enrage later on, which makes him a High Mana Murder Machine. Hit him with a Kraken, I dare ya.
- Use him in Earthquake, Melee Only, Super Sneak, Reverse Speed and more to great effect. Avoid Equalizer, Unprotected, and Snipe where your opponent can just straight up ignore him.
I'm really intrigued by this one, but I'm not sure if the humanoid characteristics of the statue were necessary, they are kind of awkward to have such a chiseled physique on a mushroom made of calcified protective layers hiding his squishy reddish orange innards.
OBSIDIAN | Chaos Legion | Rare Summoner
- Obsidian is pretty standard: Load up on Magic, and make sure your tank absolutely DUNKS on your opponent's tank and counters their damage type.
- Some favorites for Kelya: Queen Mycelia, Unicorn Mustang, Mushroom Seer, Wood Nymph
- Obsidian's weaknesses are pretty clearcut: Don't use her in very Low Mana, Lost Magic or Poison. But due to the meta of CL, Obsidian is very powerful in Reverse Speed, Snipe, Opportunity, and No Melee
Obsidian is the new Alric; She's crazy strong with absolutely no thought beyond place some magic and shred through noobs; Unfortunately for you: Unless you're using Ruler of the Seas, Oshannus, Mermaid Healer, Phantom of the Abyss, AND Wavesmith, I'm going to beat your mono-magic team. BRING IT ON MAGIC SPAMMERS
COMMONS
VENARI KNIFER | Chaos Legion | Common
I love the artist's style, but the face really loses it for me, and unfortunately, speaking from experience: when the face doesn't work, everything falls apart quickly... but you didn't hear that from me, that came from the rumor mill: complaints = shanks
HILL GIANT | Chaos Legion | Common
- Hill Giant doesn't have much synergy with Earth, and I suppose he pairs best with Mylor, Lyanna or Drake of Arnak either adding more bulk, or adding some more lethality to his health pool being hit by melee
- Hill Giant is crucial in low mana battles, but has a lot of competition in the meta right now, due to the existence of Failed Summoner who is just so good.
- Throw him in Little League, Melee Only, Lost Magic and really anything Low Mana, he's also quite good in Reverse Speed, much like his Cruel Sethropod counterpart. Bonus points: Play him in Unprotected, where he has no armor anyways!
I hate the tree, which looks more like somebody gnawed off all of the leaves around the tree and left a weird shaped tree I've never seen before. Pro Tip for Hill Giant: Get yourself a new tree, preferably one with some proper growth.
VENARI SCOUT | Chaos Legion | Common
- Venari pairs excellently with Kitty or Drake of Arnak for Dragon summoners, and with Wizard of Eastwood or Mylor for Earth summoners: You want lethality and speed, with the Dragon summoners offering more Defensive value, and the Earth summoners adding more Offensive value (which is ironic, given Earth's typically defense focused summoners)
- With Evasion, and slightly more health and speed, Venari Scout catches up to Screeching Vulture when he gains that ability, and becomes a distinctly different card with slightly more health and speed, but has the added weakness of Earthquake
- A solid opportunity card, he does not see a lot of use in lower leagues as magic tends to dominate the Earth meta, but make no mistake he, like Vulture, are absolutely monstrous cards if given the opportunity to do their thing.
- Do not use him in Earthquake leave that for Vulture unless you're using Brighton Bloom; Otherwise, throw him on low mana teams, especially in Unprotected, Equalizer, and Little League. Avoid using him in Reverse Speed
I dig Venari Scout over Venari Knifer, his face, and the deeper shadows and slightly different muzzle, in my opinion, make him look more rat-like, and his hood definitely helps bite back the awkwardness. I think the other one is mostly just awkward because of the perspective chosen. Look thought, it's time for a perspective change here:
GOBLIN PSYCHIC | Chaos Legion | Common
I am making a prediction on the future of Goblin Psychic: Being one of the best common cards in the entire set, and arguably period: I believe this card will one day be worth the prices of many older, Untamed Epics in value: He is just that good, his ability spread is everything you need in a single card
- He pairs great with any summoner, but is best with Delwyn and Obsidian, who make him a nuke. His ability spread of Heal, Affliction, and Silence make him crucial for almost any team though for the cost of 6 Mana.
- You'll see this thing until the end of time; This is one of those cards where honestly, if they made a buffed version of it, it would break the game: We will likely never see a Dragon, Neutral, or Earth healer this powerful for this much mana again.
- Buy more Goblin Psychic; I shouldn't be raising the price on this card, I need him too, but IDC, I want people to get cards they'll need.
- Do NOT use him in Poison/Earthquake, he lasts 1, 2 turns and then fizzles out for 6 mana. Avoid Opportunity for this reason as well, he is pretty squishy initially. He also absolutely sucks in No Abilities and No Heal. But DO use him in Reverse Speed, Equalizer, No Melee and pretty much any standard mid mana battle you can fit him into. Even if his magic is nullified; his heal, affliction, and silence won't be.
I love Goblin Psychic, he has a ring on his ear, he's bedazzled up and wealthy, and he looks so done, like, ugh I know I'm gifted with the ability to mend these peasants' wounds but really I'd rather just take a nap in my gold crusted, silk sheets. He's a 1%er for sure. He also looks like he could use a shower...
MYCELIC MORPHOID | Chaos Legion | Common
- As such, he pairs great with Drake of Arnak for Dragons, where 1 Armor potentially lets him throw down his thorns one more time. In Earth, he's a good pairing with anybody but Mylor, and especially Eastwood, who knocks down their armor and lets Mycelic Morphoid do his spiky thing.
- As a 1 Mana, he's a solid thorny monster to put in your backline to stop sneak, or in your frontline to protect your actual frontline from 1 attack and let his slower attack hit first on the opposing tank.
- You'll see him everywhere, probably not because he's super critical to a build, but because many will either be throwing him, Chaos Agent, or Creeping Oooze into their lineups for that last bit of mana.
- Throw him into everything: He's a meatshield for your backline or frontline, or he's a free hit point for your Scavenger monster. Have fun with him, and consider getting a Gold Foil for a free 10% bonus DEC on every battle in Earth!
He's creepy, and totally non-humanoid like the other Mycelics seem to be, I wish there were more like this, who has that creepy, Halo style Flood looking thing going on, or Alien Facehuggers, or, well, Spongebob's hands.
Who's your favorite Earth Chaos Legion card?
My favorites are Goblin Psychic, Queen Mycelia, and Grund. I know, I'm a basic bitch here for liking those 3 but they are just that good. I also plan to get a Gold-Foil of Obsidian and I'm hoping for a GF Slipspawn, or maybe a GF Acid Shooter ASAP, for 10-20% Bonus DEC in any match!
