Hello, Splinterlands Friends and Family! 👋🔥

For this week's Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge, we're diving into Survival Mode, the newly released league. 🚀

Survival Mode was launched yesterday and is already making waves, sparking a ton of posts across Splinterlands. So, let's add one more! 🌊

The idea is that In this post, I'll cover a few tips and tricks to help you get the most out of Survival Mode. As always, staying ahead of the curve is key to gaining the ultimate advantage. 💪🔥

What is Survival Mode?

Survival Mode is the newly released format—or "league"—for Splinterlands. It will coexist alongside Modern and Wild, featuring its own rewards and a unique set of rules. 🚀

What makes Survival Mode particularly interesting are two main aspects:

  1. No Energy Battles:
Battles in Survival Mode require no energy. ⚡

  2. Cooldown on Unit Death:
When a unit dies, it goes into cooldown based on its rarity, level, and foil status, meaning the card can’t be used in Wild, Modern, or Land during this period. ⏳

There are other minor caveats, too. For example, in Survival Mode you won't earn Glint or other rewards aside from SPS, and only seasonally rented cards can be used. This mode offers a unique advantage for both players and the ecosystem by effectively locking up a lot of assets after each battle, imagine 4 to 6 cards locked per fight! 💥

I believe Survival Mode can be a great addition to the game, even if its primary benefit is to lock up assets. Securing funding for it might be controversial, but that challenge falls to @spsdao. 🔒💡

So, by now we understand what Survival Mode is, but how can we make the best of it? 🤔

Here are some tips and tricks to help you get prepared for Survival Mode:

A. Exclude the Cards You DON'T Want to Use in Survival Mode

This advice is pretty obvious: you don't want your best cards to die in Survival Mode and be unavailable in other modes when you might need them. The trick is knowing exactly how to do this, as it isn’t as straightforward as it might seem.

To exclude the cards you never want to go into cooldown, you have a few options:

Note: Only the owner of the cards can exclude them from Survival Mode. If a card is delegated to you, it can only be managed from the account that owns the card.

Option 1: Disable Cards Individually

You can select cards individually from the card page and click on the icon to disable them for Survival Mode. While this method works, it can be very impractical if you have a large collection, which most players do. 😕

Option 2: Use Rental Sets as a Way to Filter Cards

Rental Set Filtering

Another method to exclude cards from Survival Mode is to create a custom Rental Set, as explained in this post. Instead of using the set to rent your cards out, you'll use it to filter them on the card selection screen. Once you effectively filter your cards, you'll be able to lock them out easily. 💡

After creating a custom set with the cards you want to keep, go to the top-right dropdown menu and select the option "Survival Mode Enabled."

Next, click on the "Select Card Set" dropdown menu at the left side of your screen. Choose the set you just created, then select "Cards in Sets." This will filter your view to only display the cards you have chosen.

This process will effectively filter out all your cards from that set, and once completed, you can use the "Disable All Cards from Survival Mode" button at the top-right corner. The process is not overly complicated, but it might be a bit challenging to figure out at first. 🤓

Option 3: Other Workarounds

There are alternative options to achieve the same outcome. These might work better if you're a Card Lord with a huge collection. However, they require using a second account, delegations, and services like Peakmonsters to manage your collection. The process is quite simple. Here's how to do it:

  • Use Two Accounts:
Keep one account for your playing deck and another for the cards you intend to use in Survival Mode. This way, you can protect your key assets. ⚡

  • Undelegate Cards:
First, undelegate all the cards from your daily play. Then, use the "Survival Mode Enabled" filter and click the button at the top-right to disable those cards from being used in Survival Mode. ✅

  • Delegate via Peakmonsters:
Next, visit a site like Peakmonsters.com and select all the cards from your second account. Delegate them back to your playing account with just a few clicks. This ensures that every card you use for daily play won’t be used in Survival Mode at all. 👍

This method is probably the easiest and most effective, but it does require moving assets between two accounts but a step that not everyone may be willing to take. 🔄

B. Don't Waste Your Time Playing. Use a Bot Service

I'm a very anti-bot type of player, but I'm not dumb. If bots are allowed in Survival Mode, the best way to engage with that mode will be through botting. To play successfully in Survival Mode, you need a huge collection of cards, and you'll likely have to play many matches to make them count. As soon as your cards come out of cooldown, you should be using them repeatedly. For humans, keeping track of all these matches can be challenging—and it might get boring quickly. But for bots, Survival Mode can be a real challenge. 🤖

Right now, there are no services offering botting in Survival Mode, but it's expected that some will emerge soon. My advice is to keep your eyes peeled for any service that starts providing this feature.

C. Buy Cheap, Leveled Cards

For a player to succeed in Survival Mode, having a large collection is key—the more cards you have, the better. However, you won't get very far with just level 1 cards. In my opinion, it's better to invest in leveled cards, even if those cards are considered "bad" or "weak," because they perform much better in matches. 🃏💪

🛠️ Creating Your Own Custom Set

Creating a custom set is quite easy—just follow these steps:

image.png

  1. Switch to Create Mode: Click the Create button to start designing your set.
  2. Filter Your Choices: Use filters like mana cost, ability, splinter, or edition to narrow down your options.
  3. Auto-fill Tool: Let the auto-fill feature suggest optimized card combinations based on your preferences. You can choose to use it or set things up manually. For Survival Mode sets, I believe doing it manually is better.
  4. Name Your Set: Give it a clear, descriptive name so you can easily find it later. Since it’s a set created for Survival Mode, choose a name that reflects that—don’t just call it "rental set." 🃏✨

Once you have your sets created, simply follow the steps above to list them. Honestly, the process is really straightforward and intuitive. 👍

⚔️ Final Thoughts

As we covered in the post Survival Mode is the new league in Splinterlands that challenges you in a fresh way since battles require no energy, and when your cards fall, they enter a cooldown period, effectively locking them from use in other modes. This adds a strategic twist, forcing you to carefully manage your best assets.

By following the tips outlined, such as excluding cards you don't want to risk and using custom sets to filter your collection, you can maximize your effectiveness in Survival Mode. These strategies help ensure you protect your key cards while still enjoying the fast-paced, risk-free battles this mode offers.

Ultimately, Survival Mode has the potential to benefit the entire ecosystem by locking assets, which can help maintain scarcity and card value. Embrace the challenge, and let this innovative mode elevate your Splinterlands experience! 🚀🔥
