🔥 Hello, Splinterlands Friends and Family! 👋
For this week's Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge, I've decided to write a tutorial about Quora.
Quora has been one of the most controversial Gladius cards since its introduction and for good reason! She's incredibly powerful in brawls and a strong contender in ranked play as well.
In this post, I'll dive into how and when to use Quora effectively to climb the ranks. And in the end I will showcase an incredible fight I had with Quora las week 🏆🚀
🌟 Introduction
Quora is an incredible card, but it's a Gladius card meaning it can't be used in every single battle. She's always a strong option, especially in certain rulesets. For example, consider the "Are You Not Entertained" ruleset (where you can summon one additional Gladiator card):
But Quora can also be highly effective when combined with Lobb Lowland. Her strength lies in her unique abilities: Heal, Immunity, and Bloodlust. Once Quora secures a kill or two, she becomes nearly unkillable, boasting a huge damage output thanks to her double attack. ⚔️💥
In fact, Quora is probably the most banned card in brawls and for good reason. She's often paired with Martyr, and since the Earth Splinter features two Martyrs, it's easy to stack both on Quora. In brawls, combining Quora with top-tier summoners (for example, with Llama) only amplifies her power. 🏆🔥
To answer the question of when to use Quora, let's first examine her stats per level to understand why she's been so dominant.

Step 1: Spam Quora Towershead in Bronze and Silver
At level 1, Quora is already an extremely powerful card—arguably, even too powerful. She comes with 11 life, Heal, Bloodlust, 2 magic damage, 2 melee damage, and 3 speed. These stats are simply insane for a level 1 card! 💥
At Novice, Bronze, or Silver level, the strategy is straightforward: spam Quora to secure wins. Thanks to Lobb Lowland, this approach becomes even more viable. The key is to:
- Position wisely: Place Quora in the front for low mana matches or in the back for high mana matches.
- Support with Martyr units: Surround her with Martyr units to maximize her potential.
However, there's a downside. Since Quora is a Gladius card, the only way to obtain her is by getting lucky with Gladius packs. This can make it challenging for new players to acquire her. My recommendation is: if you're new to Splinterlands, join a guild ASAP so you can start brawling and collecting Gladius cards. Who knows, you might snag one in your very first pack! 🎉
Step 2: Quora in Gold and Diamond
Using Quora at Gold and Diamond levels is a bit trickier. Although she remains very powerful, sacrificing your best summoner to use Lobb Lowland isn't always the optimal choice—since Lobb Lowland only provides a -1 speed debuff to the enemy team. 🤔
Important Note:
If Dragon is available, consider pairing Quora with Helios Matriarch instead. Helios Matriarch is a step up from Lobb Lowland as it grants +1 speed to your team and enables the use of Dragon units. 🐉
At max levels of play, it becomes more challenging for Quora to secure kills. With only 2 magic damage, and if the enemy team applies any magic debuff, Quora may deal at most 1 damage per turn when placed in the backline. If you position her in the front, she might hit harder with her melee attack, but she then becomes more vulnerable to enemy strikes. ⚔️
This is why, despite her inherent strength, Quora has evolved into a card that's most effective in certain rulesets. 🎯
So, when should I use Quora? 🤔
In my ranked play, I've found that Quora is a great choice in several scenarios:
1. "Are You Not Entertained" Ruleset
When this ruleset is active, you don’t need to sacrifice your summoner to play Quora. Although this makes her a very attractive option, it's not a one-size-fits-all solution—each match must be analyzed individually, as other rules can also affect the optimal strategy.
2. Noxious Fumes Ruleset
Poison is a classic scenario for Quora. In a poison match, if you have enough mana to use Lobb Lowland, Quora, and 2 Martyr cards, you should likely go for it. The strategy is straightforward:
- Place Quora in the back, surrounded by 2 Martyr units (and add Resurrects if possible).
This setup works well because Quora can secure at least 2 Martyr buffs before she starts taking damage. Remember, she has Immunity, so poison isn’t an issue, and if she gets a kill or two, the enemy team will be significantly weakened. 🐍
3. Wands out Ruleset (only magic units):
This is a less common scenario, but when you're forced to play only magic units, Quora can be very effective if the mana cap is moderate (around 30-45).
- High mana cap (+50): The enemy likely brings heavy damage (e.g., Runemancer Florre), making it hard for Quora to survive.
- Moderate mana cap (30-45): The enemy may rely mostly on magic damage, allowing you to use Quora as a tank supported by Goblin Psychic. Quora’s inherent Heal, combined with the heal from Goblin Psychic, can help her survive long enough to secure kills. Adding Dr. Blight in the backline to debuff the enemy tank further improves your chances. However, if the enemy’s tank heals too well, even this setup may eventually fail.
4. Born Again Ruleset
This is one of the most intriguing, albeit less obvious, uses for Quora. The strategy here involves:
- Surrounding Quora with Martyr units that will resurrect once, potentially buffing her up to 4 times.
If she gets that many buffs, she becomes nearly unkillable. Her high life pool combined with insane speed makes her very hard to take down—even if she does get hit, her healing ability can quickly recover the damage. This approach may not be common, but it has the potential to turn the tide of battle. 🛡️🔥
The Fight
🏆 Match Preparation
⚔️ The Ruleset
For this match, we have a 25 mana cap and 3 rulesets:

Born Again:
All units gain the Rebirth ability. We’ve already discussed why this ruleset works so well with Quora.

Armored Up:
All Monsters receive 2 Armor in addition to their normal stat. Since this buff applies equally to both teams, it doesn’t offer a significant advantage. When this ruleset is active, a good strategy is to include a unit with the Rust ability to lower the enemy's armor—exactly what my opponent did.

Target Practice:
All Ranged and Magic attack Monsters gain the Snipe ability. Generally, this means you should consider an off-tank in the second position to absorb some hits. In this match, I used Target Practice to ensure Quora would receive 4 buffs.
- If you use a weak frontline (as I did), when it dies, your Martyr unit moves forward and gives Quora 2 buffs.
- Then, Quora remains in the frontline while your other Martyr takes the Snipe damage.
This combination of rulesets works exceptionally well for Quora. However, in more general scenarios—even if you manage only 2 buffs (for example, if the enemy doesn’t deploy sneak, snipe, or opportunity monsters)—that might be enough for Quora to start racking up kills.
🛡️ The Lineups
Opponent's Lineup
Summoner | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | 5th | 6th |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
My opponent used a more classic lineup with Tofu as the summoner. He placed Meriput Magician in the front because it offered healing and Shield, along with Triage and Scavenger buffs to make it very hard to kill while supporting the backline, a really solid well though strategy.
My Team
Summoner | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | 5th | 6th |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
I opted for a classic buff Quora team. This was a low-mana match for Quora, and I was stretching her capabilities almost to the point of being non-viable—but the strategy still worked out.
This fight is going to be a challenge! Let’s see how it plays out! 🎬🔥
Turn 1:
Turn 1 was quite uneventful, with many misses and armor hits. No units were eliminated, although my Acid Shooter took a lot of damage.
Turn 2:
Turn 2 was more interesting. I managed to kill the enemy Fungus Flinger, and my Martyr buffed two enemy units: Stitch Leech and Meriput Magician.
The enemy managed to kill my Acid Shooter twice, first from a hit by Stitch Leech, and then with a lucky shot from their own Acid Shooter. During its lifespan, my Acid Shooter managed to poison the enemy Acid Shooter once, but since every unit had resurrect and I had no other way of damaging their backline, that effort didn’t change the outcome.
Turn 3:
By turn 3, things hadn’t changed drastically, but my strategy began to pay off. As you can see, my Quora started to power up—she landed a lucky shot on the enemy Fungus Flinger for a kill and was buffed by Martyr when my Venari Marksrat fell.
Turn 4:
By the end of turn 4, my team’s plan became clear. Quora was dealing 7/7 damage and had a massive health pool of 18. Even though the enemy damage dealers were still active—and their tank was a beast with 24 life, shield, and heal—the Martyr buffs allowed Quora to grow strong despite not scoring another kill until the next turn.
Turn 5:
By the start of turn 6, we finally saw Quora in her final form before facing almost the entire enemy team. She now has 8 magic and 8 melee damage, with a base health of 19 and healing herself for 6 life points each turn. At this point, it became a real challenge to see if she could sustain the incoming damage while dealing significant blows to the enemy tank.
The enemy tank, a self-healing unit with 26 life, heals for 7 life each turn.
A quick calculation suggests that both teams had a chance to win at this stage. While Quora could eventually eliminate the enemy Meriput Magician, if she continues taking damage from every enemy unit, she might ultimately fall. However, the beauty of buffing a unit like Quora is her 9 speed which often prevents the enemy from landing a hit.
This is how the match eventually resolved, though not without risks. At one point, my Quora was just 1 health away from being defeated. Luckily, thanks to her significant speed advantage, she managed to attack first, heal herself, and secure the enemy tank's second kill.
After that turning point, the fight became relatively straightforward. The enemy Stitch Leech lost its buffs due to Quora's dispel, and the enemy team's overall damage output was significantly diminished.
Final Conclusion
In conclusion, Quora is an incredibly versatile and powerful Gladius card whose potential shines when used in the right situations. Throughout this post, we explored her effectiveness across various rulesets—from the "Are You Not Entertained" format, where you can preserve your summoner, to the synergistic setups in Noxious Fumes, Only Magic, and the innovative Born Again ruleset.
We saw that at lower levels (Bronze and Silver), simply spamming Quora can secure wins, while at Gold and Diamond levels, careful positioning and support from units like Martyr, Lobb Lowland, or even Helios Matriarch become crucial. The detailed match analysis demonstrated how buffs, speed advantages, and tactical sacrifices can turn the tide of battle—even when facing a formidable enemy tank.
Ultimately, while Quora’s usage is highly situational, her unique blend of abilities (Heal, Immunity, Bloodlust) makes her a game-changer when deployed with the right strategy. I hope this tutorial provides a clear insight into maximizing her potential in ranked play. Let’s keep the conversation going—share your experiences and strategies with Quora! 🚀🔥

It's satisfying to have Quora buffed with double Martyr on top of Bloodlust and makes for a good battle whenever it wins against a Tofu team.
Winning against Tofu is always satisfying 🤣
I think Quora is one of the best monsters we ever had. Maybe it is even the best.
I play many tournaments right now with the novice/bronze level cap. And as you said, you just have to spam playing Quora, no matter which ruleset or manacap, and you get a bunch of wins.
I love her but Im still trying to max her heh
My quora is only on the second level so far 😅
