Hello, Splinterlands Friends and Family! 👋🔥

For this week's Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge, the team is inviting us to explore and expand the Splinterlands lore! 🏰✨

If you're a fan of the rich and immersive world behind Splinterlands, this challenge is the perfect opportunity to dive deep into its stories, characters, and factions and share your creative take on them! 🎨📖

Just last week, I was browsing through some of the lore here:
🔗 Chaos Empire - Splinterlands Lore

Even though the page is well-written and very detailed, I noticed it's missing cool images and artwork. 🎭🎨 So, heads up, @splinterlands team—maybe you could focus on adding more visuals to complete the archives! 👀🔥

🌟 Introduction

For this challenge, I decided to expand on the Fiends by creating two new types of these dark entities. 🕷️🔥

You can read all about Fiends in this section of the lore:
🔗 Fiends - Splinterlands Lore

In case you're not up to date with the lore, here’s what we officially know so far:

Fiends are creatures native to the lower planes, divided into several distinct races:

  • 🩸 Demons – Grotesque and terrifying fiends with horns, fangs, claws, or corrupted flesh. Immortal beings that thrive in cruel hierarchies or isolation, driven by destruction and domination.
  • 🐺 Bestial Fiends – Infernal beasts resembling mundane animals but marked by grotesque features and magical abilities. They have animal-like intelligence.
  • 😈 Imps – Small, winged fiends known for their mischievous and malicious nature.
  • 👁️ Nightmareborn – Manifestations of nightmares and primal fears, taking horrific, twisted forms.
  • 🦇 Nocturni – A mysterious, immortal species rumored to have transcended death. Their existence is tied to the origins of vampirism.
  • ⚰️ Reapers – Fiends bound to collecting the souls of the fallen, often mistaken for undead due to their skeletal forms and dark robes. They can be compassionate, cruel, or indifferent.
  • 👻 Shades – Incorporeal fiends resembling specters, but they are not undead. They exist as a distinct race, typically chaotic and malevolent.

In this post, we’re going to explore two new types of Fiends that will be introduced into the game in the Conclave Arcana expansion.

⚠️ Disclaimer: From this point on, all content in this post is purely fictional and created for entertainment purposes.

Without further ado, here are the new types of Fiends: Forsaken and Abyssborn.

🔥 Forsaken Fiends – Cursed Exiles of the Chaos Legion

Forsaken Fiend.gif

Long ago, the Chaos Legion created a terrifying force of fiends to serve as their scouts, assassins, and enforcers. These creatures, forged from raw nether energy, were bound by powerful oaths to their infernal masters. But when the Rift Wars reached their climax, something went wrong. A powerful faction within the Chaos Legion—seeking to purge weakness—cast out the fiends who failed to meet their ruthless standards.

Marked as Forsaken, these exiles were left to wander the lowest planes, severed from their creators. No longer part of the Chaos Legion’s grand design, they survive in a constant state of desperation, clinging to the remnants of their former power.

Twisted and Unstable Forms

A Forsaken Fiend never looks the same for long. Their bodies flicker between solid and spectral, caught in a perpetual state of decay and regeneration. Some bear twisted remnants of their former selves—tattered wings, shattered horns, or broken weapons fused to their flesh. Others are marked by the Chaos Legion’s punishment: chains that smolder with cursed fire or sigils that glow with unstable energy.

Survival at Any Cost

Without the Chaos Legion’s magic to sustain them, Forsaken Fiends must steal energy from others to avoid fading into oblivion. Some become mercenaries, offering their dark talents to the highest bidder. Others feed on fear and suffering, lurking in the shadows of haunted battlefields and cursed lands, preying on those who stray too close.

A few have even been summoned by desperate mortals, offering power in exchange for a dark price. However, those who strike a bargain with a Forsaken soon find that these fiends do not forget betrayal. Unlike other demons, Forsaken do not seek simple destruction—they crave revenge, and they will wait for the perfect moment to drag their enemies into the abyss.

A Rogue Threat to All Factions

Although they were created by Chaos, the Forsaken Fiends hold no loyalty to any faction. Some hate the Chaos Legion for casting them aside, while others despise the Riftwatchers for blocking their return. A rare few even seek redemption, hoping that by proving their worth, they may be allowed back into the fold—or at least find a place in the mortal world.

What is certain is this: wherever they go, suffering follows. The Forsaken have nothing to lose… and nothing left to fear.

Abyssborn Fiends – The Living Shadows of the Rift

Abyssborn Fiend.gif

There are things that should not be—beings whose presence defies the natural order. The Abyssborn are among them. Unlike other fiends, they were never summoned, created, or bound. They simply areechoes of the Rift, remnants of something that slipped through when the barriers between worlds were shattered.

Many believe the Abyssborn were once fragments of forgotten realms, worlds that collapsed into the void when the Rift Wars began. Others whisper that they are the shadows of something far worse, entities that exist between realities, unable to fully manifest yet incapable of fading.

Shifting, Unstable Forms

An Abyssborn has no fixed shape. To look upon one is to see a creature that does not belong, a being that flickers between twisted silhouettes, shifting colors, and void-born shadows. Some appear as towering, faceless figures, their edges distorting like a mirage. Others manifest as rippled distortions in space, their outlines flickering like dying embers. Their "faces," if they can be called that, consume light, thought, and even memory, leaving only an unsettling emptiness in their wake.

The Hunger of the Rift

Abyssborn do not corrupt, destroy, or enslave—they erase. They do not hunt for blood, but for meaning itself. Wherever they linger, things begin to fade: names are forgotten, landmarks vanish, and histories unravel. Some scholars believe Abyssborn are not invaders, but custodians of oblivion, entities that ensure the chaos of the Rift does not spill unchecked into reality.

They do not speak, but their presence is felt in the minds of those who stray too close. Their whispers reveal visions of things that never happened, futures that may never come to pass, and memories that do not belong to those who recall them. Those who listen too long risk losing themselves, their identities unraveling until they become nothing but echoes.

The Curse of the Abyssborn Host

Some Abyssborn do not consume, but merge. They find a host, a mortal vessel, and wrap themselves around them like a second shadow. These hosts gain immense power, but over time, their thoughts and memories fade, replaced by the alien will of the Abyssborn. Eventually, nothing remains of the original host—only a living nightmare, wearing the face of someone who no longer exists.

Legends speak of an ancient catastrophe, an event erased from history where an Abyssborn fully manifested into the physical world. Entire lands disappeared, leaving no ruins, no stories, no trace of their existence. Some fear that another such entity waits beyond the Rift, watching… waiting… ready to consume all that remains.

To stand before an Abyssborn is to stand on the edge of oblivion. And when it leaves, it is as if you were never there at all.
