Hello, Splinterlands friends and family! 👋 Today, as part of the Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge, we’re going to talk about how to make the most of your Glint in the Glint Shop—whether you earn thousands of Glint each season or just a little.
Introduction:
The goal of this post is to provide an introductory support article about the Glint Shop that new players can easily refer to whenever needed.
This post is divided into five sections. Feel free to jump to whatever interests you:
I. What is Glint?
II. How do I earn Glint?
III. What does the Glint shop offer?
IV. How should I spend my Glint?
V. My personal advice for players (new and old) on how to spend their Glint wisely.
I. What is Glint? 🤔
Glint is a non-transferrable token used in Splinterlands to reward players for their engagement with the game. It cannot be traded between players or on Hive Engine. Glint also can’t be purchased directly—if you want to acquire this token, you’ll need to earn it by playing the game.
II. How do I earn Glint? 💰
Currently, there are two major sources of Glint:
- Winning ranked battles
- Burning Soulbound Reward cards
It’s important to note that to earn Glint from ranked battles, you must be eligible for rewards. This means you need:
- A Summoner's Spellbook .
- Real NFT cards (no ghost cards—either owned, rented or delegated).
- A Bronze III rank or higher (700 rating).
- A certain amount of SPS staked depending on your league.
You can read more about these requirements here.
The formula for earning Glint tokens from ranked wins is closely tied to the formula for acquiring Reward Shares (Rshares), which is used to calculate both Glint and SPS. The amount earned depends primarily on a player's current rating—the higher your rating, the more Glint you’ll earn, with a cap of 5,000 for Champion-level ratings. Various factors, such as the type of cards used, guild building level, and staked SPS balance, can further boost your rewards.
If you're curious, you can explore the formula here (How are Rewards (Rshares) Calculated?).
Distribution of Glint
Glint from ranked battles is distributed in two stages:
- Immediately after each victory
- An equal amount is reserved for season-end loot.
Season-end loot rewards players based on their performance over the season and can be claimed at the end of each season, typically every 14-15 days.
III. What does the Glint shop have to offer? 🛍️
The Glint Shop offers a variety of exciting items, including:
1. Soulbound Reward Card Rarity Draws
The shop offers four types of card draws based on rarity:
- Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary cards.
The higher the rarity, the more expensive the draw, and the fewer cards you receive. These provide random Soulbound reward cards tied to their rarity category. Cards can be gold foils, but they cannot come in multiple copies of the same card as with chests.
2. Loot Chests
Loot chests contain a mix of rewards such as cards, potions, Merits, Energy, and even jackpot prizes. There are three types of chests with varying chances for each reward:
Chest Type | Reward Card | Potions | Merits | Energy | Jackpot Prize | Cost (Glint) | Available Qty |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Minor | 33% | 31.99% | 30% | 5% | 0.01% | 200 | 300 |
Major | 33% | 30.90% | 26% | 10% | 0.10% | 1,000 | 150 |
Ultimate | 33% | 26.00% | 20% | 20% | 1.00% | 4,500 | 30 |
Note:
- Energy rewards can exceed the standard cap of 50. For example, if you have 40 Energy and win an extra 13, your total will be 53. However, regeneration stops until your Energy drops below 50 again.
- Jackpot Prizes can include exclusive rewards like Titles, Land Plots, Beta Packs, or Legendary Cards. This is the only way to convert Soulbound tokens (like Glint) into valuable, monetizable NFTs.
3. Merits 🛡️
Merits, which are used to purchase Gladius packs for Guild play, can also be bought using Glint. Merits can be earned after each brawl, bought directly from the Glint shop or obtained in loot chests.
Batch Purchase Feature
The above items can be bought in batches, and after completing a batch, the price of the items will increase by 50% for the next batch purchase. The amount of items per batch varies by the item.
4. Energy ⚡
Energy is a crucial resource for playing more ranked matches. You can buy Energy using Glint, but the cost will vary depending on your rank—the higher your rank, the more expensive the Energy becomes. This is because high-ranked players earn Glint more easily.
Pro Tip: Energy can also be bought using other currencies such as DEC-B, Credits, or DEC. This gives players multiple options for maintaining their Energy levels.
5. Potions ✨
You can also purchase potions directly with Glint. These potions can also be bought using DEC-B, Credits, or DEC, providing flexibility for players.
6. Limited Edition Titles 🏅
Exclusive Rare, Epic, and Legendary titles are available in the Glint shop. These titles are typically aimed at high-ranked players and give them a prestigious in-game status and other benefits. At the time of writing this article, the Renowned Legendary Title has already sold out!
IV. How should I spend the Glint? 💰
Earning your Glint is half the battle. Spending it wisely is the other half. ⚔️
The main idea is that you should spend your Glint when you feel the rewards available match your goals. This means that you should try to create your own strategy to spend your hard-earned Glint and not waste your efforts.
- You can choose to spend it on higher-tier chests for better chances at getting a Jackpot. 🎉
- Or you can spend your Glint on rarity card draws to complete your Soulbound reward card collection faster. 🃏
- You can also save up for special titles or future items that might better align with your needs. 🏆
- Lastly, there's always the option to save Glint until a new set of Soulbound reward cards is released to get a head start on collecting. 🔄
The decision depends on your gameplay strategy and desired rewards. It’s really hard to give general advice that is useful for every player because the amount of Glint earned varies a lot from player to player. But still, in the next section, I’m going to try to give tips on how you can make your own strategy that suits your needs better. 🌟
VI. My personal advice for Players (new and old) on how to spend their Glint wisely. 🧠
I understand that if you are reading this, it's because you are a newer player looking for advice. Here are some important tips you should keep in mind:
The main use of Glint is to obtain Soulbound reward cards that are very expensive to get on the market. The soulbound reward card set is a set that should be obtain mainly by just playing the game. The idea is that over time you will build your own collection. That’s why collecting Soulbound reward cards is a marathon, not a race. 🏃♂️ This means that you should NOT try to collect all the cards at once in a single season. Even if you manage to earn a lot of Glint for a few seasons, the best strategy is generally not to spend everything you have on one thing.
The reason for this is that items in the shop get really expensive after each batch. If you can, you should always try to buy batch 1 of everything before buying batch 2. 💸
Once your collection starts building up, you will begin to complete some types of cards sooner than others. This is mainly because of RNG but also due to how the game is designed. You will probably finish your Common and Rare cards sooner than the others. This is why it’s important to have a well-thought-out plan. For example, in my own accounts, I don't buy any Legendary card draws. Legendary Card Draws are really expensive, and for this batch of reward cards, I’m currently focusing on my Epic cards first. I personally think this set of Epic cards is better than the Legendaries, which is why I’m focusing on those.
My idea is that once I finish collecting my Epic cards, I won’t need to buy any Epic Draws anymore, and I will be able to buy Legendary Draws instead. But it’s important to notice that by the time I get there, I will still have a lot of Legendary cards because every season I still buy some chests (I try to buy at least until batch 2 of each type, but your strategy can vary). So, basically, my advice for this part of the guide is that you should focus first on chests and later on Card Draws. If you can only afford to buy batch 1 of Minor chests every season, that’s perfectly fine. By just buying Minor chests, you will start building up your collection until you can start buying Major chests. Ultimate chests are not really worth what they cost unless you aim for the jackpot rewards, so I would skip them and jump directly to card draws. Focus first on one rarity, and once you complete that, you can move on. 🎯Merits. Don’t forget to buy merits every season. Building your Gladius card collection is really important for guild play and also for ranked play. The first batch of merits is actually really cheap, so you should try to get a few batches every season. This is basically the only item in the shop I recommend going past batch 1 if you don't earn at least a million or more Glint per season. 🥇
Keep in mind that at any point, the company might add new items to the shop. This is a real possibility and has been discussed a few times. This might include new items, skins, promo cards, and Secrets of Praetoria expansion resources, etc. I know saving up Glint is really hard, but if you can, keeping a reserve ready to use in case a new opportunity comes up is not a bad idea. 🔮
Use potions every time you are prompted to. When buying items in the Glint shop, if there’s a chance you will get a card, the system will ask you to use potions to increase your chances of getting a Legendary card and to make that card Gold Foil. If you can, you should always use your potions for this. This will decrease the time it takes you to get a full collection of cards, and by the time you finish, you might end up with a few cards at Max Level Gold Foil versions, which are very good for ranked due to the bonuses they provide. 🌟
If you are short on Glint consider burning the excess reward cards you get. We collect Soulbound reward cards for 2 main reasons: for personal use and to sell on the market. Soulbound reward cards can be unbounded for a Dec price and later sold on the market for a profit. Once you finish leveling up a card you should consider if its better to unbound that card and try to sell it on the market or just burn it for more glint.
Conclusion 🎉
In conclusion, the Glint shop offers an exciting avenue for players to enhance their Splinterlands experience through Soulbound reward cards, potions, and unique items. By understanding how to earn Glint and spending it wisely, both new and veteran players can strategically build their collections and maximize their gameplay.
Remember, collecting Soulbound cards is a journey, not a sprint. Take your time to develop your own strategy, focusing on what aligns best with your goals and playing style. With patience and smart decision-making, you’ll be well on your way to becoming a formidable force in the Splinterlands universe! 🏆
Happy gaming, and may your battles be ever victorious! ⚔️
