Splinterlands: Winning due to home advantage and good positioning of cards

in Splinterlands8 hours ago

Splinterlands is a complex game and it allows for various different cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various different rulesets applied and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used the right cards under the right ruleset.

Featured cards

Witch of Warwick is a death splinter that costs 5 mana. It starts off with the life leech and bloodlust ability. It learns affliction at level 6 and poison at level 10. I have this card at level 3 as a gold foil and level 5 as a normal card.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is Equalizer, Earthquake, and Noxious Fumes. This means that all monsters start off with the same health and poisoned. All non-flying monsters also take 2 damage per turn. There is also 22 mana and I can choose earth, life, death, or dragon splinter.

I use Drake of Arnak as my summoner for the +1 armor and dragon monsters. Since all monsters start with the same health, I use Dumacke Orc as my tank with shield. I have Xenith monk second with heal incase the match lasts longer. My third monster is Venari Marksrat with martyr to buff up my monsters and Witch of Warlock is my last monster.

Round 1

At first glance, I think that this match could go either way because my opponent has the level advantage and the monsters in the back have flying. I still think I can win if I can outlast my opponent.

Round

round 3.png
My opponent is down to the last few rounds and my Xenith Monk is still alive. At this point, I have this match won because Void Dragon will die this round and I should be able to kill Chaos Dragon before he attacks.

It ended up being a tie as Warwick did not kill that Void Dragon, but I won because it was my brawl's home advantage.

Conclusion

The battle this time did not play out as expected. I was still able to win because I used my cards strategically and it was too bad that Warwick was not able to stack any bloodlust. The life leech did keep it alive until the end, so it could damage until the very end, and I could barely win the match. It was a lot closer than I would like but that Martyr monster definitely helped as it boosted the stats of Xenith Monk and Witch of Warwick. I guess the flying ability monsters reduced the damage he took and it became closer than I would have liked.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Matches like this one are interesting and much better than usual "I already see who wins from lineups"... The monk on poison rule is very good

You won the game? I thought that was a draw?
