Splinterlands battle with Hill Giant!

Hello Splinterlands Community!!

This post is about a battle with a low mana monster called HILL GIANT from the Earth Splinter!!!!!!!

Hill Giant is part of the Earth Splinter and has no special ability at Level 1. I like to use this monster in low mana battles when I want a tank with good health. Given that it comes for only 3 mana, it can be a very useful tank. I have a level 2 card that has one more health compared to a level 1 card. I like this monster in battles where rules provide it additional protection to the tank e.g. All monsters get +2 armor.

Paired with the Goblin Psychic, this monster can last for enough rounds while other magic attack monsters from the earth splinter destroy the enemy line-up. Earth is my favorite splinter to play with. I have some legendary cards that improve my team strength a lot.

I want to show this monster's usefulness by showcasing a battle. The link to battle is below and you can also watch the battle on YouTube (please subscribe to my channel if you want to watch more Splinterlands battles.)

Battle Description

  1. The initial health of all monsters is equal
  2. Total Mana limit 17
  3. Can play with Fire & Earth Splinters

I chose to play with Earth Splinter for this battle. Earth Splinter has a lot of useful magic attack monsters but their health is limited. The rules of this game take away that disadvantage. I also did not want to risk the enemy choosing a low-health team. Therefore I used the Hill Giant as my tank. This would ensure that my magic attack monsters have health of at least 7.

I went for the following team -

Reason for Team Selection - Strategy

I have 3 legendary monsters on my team. Queen Mycelia, Spirit Hoarder, and Fungus Fiend. Along with Hill Giant, Fungus Fiend acts as the second tank. I love to fill up my team with this monster as it comes with 0 mana. With initial health of all monsters as equal, both Hill Giant and Fungus Fiend will fend off the enemy attack for a few rounds, till I destroy the enemy lineup with my magic attacks. If the enemy has a sneak attack monster, then the Spirit Hoarder will heal the monsters at the end of my lineup, thereby reducing the enemy sneak attack. I am also going for a "destroy the enemy from both ends" strategy as my Goblin Sorcerer monster will attack the monster at the back as it is a magic attack monster with sneak ability.

I could use the Obsidian summoner as death and water splinters were not allowed in this battle. Therefore, no summoner can weaken the effect of obsidian. Queen Mycelia of course provides two armors to my monsters, therefore, reducing the Melee attack on health for at least 1 attack.

While three of my monsters attack the opponent's tank, I have one monster in my team that attacks the opponent from the rear. My strategy for the game was to also target Goblin Psychic in the opposite team by having a sneak attack monster. I could not use Goblin Psychic because the mana was too low.

A better strategy could have been to use Fungus Fiend as the tank and then have a 2 mana or 3 mana magic attack monster behind it.

I did win the battle and hope you all liked my strategy. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
