Chicken Rodeo [Splinterlands weekly battle challenge]

in Splinterlands4 years ago

Dear splinterlands fans when I saw Furious Chicken in weekly battle I knew I need to make this article. I have vault with most beautiful battles I ever fought in splinterlands and I believe this battle named as Chicken Rodeo sit on the top of this list. Prepare for a real treat

I don’t think I need to introduce Furious Chicken much. It is one the best cards in game and in my guide for new players I told if new player should get just one card it should be furious chicken.

One thing changed since when I wrote that guide several months ago. Its market price of Furious Chicken, can you believe it costed just few cents at some time.
I bought my gold foil chickens for less than $2 per card. Today when I checked last price for GF chicken was $37.50 ~20x return on investment in less than year? Not bad at all :)

As you probably expect from hype about this battle being on the top of my best battles list my opponent is no pushover. And it was VERY close battle. What you probably did not expect is that despite my Chicken plays important role in this battle main protagonist is actually opponents Chicken. Or main antagonist.

Imagine Chicken Furiously trying to peck you to death over and over again. What would you do Summoner? Hop on that Chicken and go for a rough ride.
Despite this battle is several months old I still remember why I use which monster so without further ado let’s go into match analysis.

Quite restrictive ruleset, but little league is fun and when you see 12 mana a card should appear in mind. Chicken. It is probably impossible to make team without chicken in low mana matches.

And in combination with knockout another card will appear in every fire splinter connoisseurs mind. Spark Pixies. They hit fast, they hit hard and with knockout rule their stun makes sure nothing survives to tell the tale at round 2 of battle.

Pyre is amazing for high speed, high damage, but fragile compositions. Extra speed will go long way ensuring monsters strikes first, often allowing to kill something before it’s able to do anything. And speed also helps with hitting targets and dodging attacks. Pyre synergizes extremely well with all monsters used.
Tip: Pyre have one huge weakness – reverse speed ruleset. Make sure you have another fire/dragon summoner for this case.

Kobold Bruiser might seem as counter-intuitive pick. In Knockout rule matches everyone gets knockout ability, so he will not benefit from his innate knockout. But he still has amazing stats for Little league matches, most notably speed, often killing its victim before it can attack. 6 health is sufficient to survive few hits.
Tip: Kobold Bruiser loves company of Spark Pixies, they can deliver devastating combo attack.

Chicken is only 0 mana card in game so it’s a must in low mana matches period. Placing Chicken behind faster monster gives it best chance to be able to attack. Chicken isn’t just cannon fodder to absorb one attack. That’s just worst case scenario. Especially in low mana matches every damage counts and chicken is often also valuable damage dealer.
Tip: Placing Chicken in last position is often suboptimal – try placing it in first position too and watch your win rate soar. Oh and Chickens love Equalizer rule.

Goblin Fireballer is reliable ranged damage dealer due to his decent speed and snare ability, which gives him good chance to hit any target. If his victim does not fly its usually too slow to have good dodge chance and if it does fly snare means automatic hit. No more annoying cocatrices dodging multiple attacks in row.
Tip: It can be sometimes tricky to decide whether use Goblin Fireballer (lower mana matches, Earthquake rule) or Halfling Alchemist (expecting to face strong and durable tank)

Spark Pixies are amazing in Knockout ruleset. There is nothing faster so they hit first. And when they stun opponents tank every subsequent attack will deal double damage. No monster can survive this. And when they get attacked, usually by sneak monster, they can dodge a lot of bullets. If only my Spark pixies had an idea what coming for them this battle…
Tip: Spark Pixies loves to laugh at Sandworms and giving them just 1 armor is very cruel to any Sandworm. Summoner Drake of Arnak must be bit sadistic.

I recommend using normal speed

What a crazy battle! I didn’t went as planned at all, but it was funny ride with plots within plots and twists within twists. And the ending is just magnificent. I won, but mostly because RNGesus was on my side and shown little bit twisted sense of humor.

I think everyone uses chicken often. There is no substitute for chicken and it does so much for its whooping 0 mana cost. In fact I use Chicken too often – it is so easy to forget you are doing no neutral monsters quest, which is apart from high mana matches, only reason to not use Chicken.

Thank you for reading and good luck in the splinterlands.
