For anyone who is just starting out.
Summoners Choices
Between the starting summoners (Malric Inferno and Pyre), I would personally always pick Malric Inferno. You will see why in a minute, however both can be played. Depends on your playing choices. I go for a high debuff team, where the enemy team is debuffed and I get buffed by the summoners. Essentially, this gives you a +2 advantage (your buff is +1 and the enemy debuff is a -1 for them but +1 for you).
Positions
- Tank
You always want to pick one of these two.
a) Living Lava: high stats, good defense, decent damage
b) Cerberus: regens, decent speed - Sub-tank 1-3
These positions are for damage soakers. You have a couple of choices here according to the mana cap. Pick them in this order if you can.
a) Cerberus: if you have large mana cap
b) Goblin Shaman: this is your HP debuff sub-tank
c) Creeping Ooze: this is your speed debuff sub-tank, if you have this card rented - Backline Damage 4-5
These positions are for your backline damages.
a) Serpentine Spy: good fast damage
b) Kobold Miner: fast damage
Theory
The theory behind this build is to debuff your opponents while increasing your stats. The positioning is to divided into 3 sections. The first section is the first position and the tank, obviously.
I place the sub-tanks in those positions so that they can soak up more damage while the backline has more chances to deal their damage before getting targetted. You want to position tankier sub-tanks closer to the front to let the weaker sub-tanks use their effect more. For example, you want Goblin Shaman in front of Creeping Ooze because it will be able to tank more with 4 HP, while Creeping Ooze's effect can stay on the field longer. Putting Creeping Ooze in front means it will only be able to tank 1 hit with it's 1 HP, meaning you will lose it's effect after 1 round.
Backline damage dealers are in a kind of reverse order as the sub-tanks. You want the tankier ones to be last. The reasoning behind this is to bait out any Sneaks, since those will attack the last monster first. For example, Kobold Miner is last because it has 2 HP vs Serpentine Spy with 1 HP. Kobold Miner would be able to last longer in the last position, in theory.
I hope this helps some beginners out there in planning out their battlefield. I will be doing more guides like these for the other elements.
