Strategies for the Earthquake Ruleset!
Earthquake causes 2 damage to each Monster that does not fly at the end of each round. The Earthquake ruleset is a pretty common ruleset, and it might seem straightforward at first glance. However, there are several ways to play this ruleset, some of which may surprise you! Read on to find out more!
Strategy #1: Use Flying Monsters
The most obvious strategy for this ruleset is to use flying monsters so that they do not get hit with 2 damage at the end of each round. This is pretty self-explanatory, so I won't dive into it any further than that.
Strategy #2: Use Brighton Bloom
This strategy is also an obvious one. Brighton Bloom gives flying power to ALL of the monsters he summons. This is great, because then you don't have to worry about choosing only flying monsters, you can put any monster you want on your team!
Strategy #3: Protect Yourself!
Using monsters or Summoners that increase the Shield of each monster on your team is a really good way to stay alive longer during the Earthquake ruleset. I love using Wavesmith for this purpose, since she pairs well with the Summoner I talk about in the next section. Earthquake will hit the shield before hitting Health, unlike Poison, so having that additional protection will keep your team alive longer. Getting self-healing monsters into the mix will help too! Try to keep those monsters protected so that they only have to heal from the Earthquake damage, not from attacks. Go for monsters with the highest possible amount of Health so that they can withstand several rounds of Earthquake. Using Lorna Shine is another great option, because Divine Shield will protect against Earthquake damage if the monster hasn't already been hit. This isn't my first choice, but it can work in a pinch!
Strategy #3: Let the Earthquake Do the Work!
And now, I present to you my favorite strategy for Earthquake. Vera Salacia. The most underrated Summoner there is. I'm not going to lie, when I leveled up my Vera I did so only because she was the cheapest water summoner. (Actually, she may have been the cheapest Summoner out of all of them!) Vera is incredibly powerful in certain use cases, particularly in Earthquake. She gives all Monsters the Snare ability, which takes away their ability to fly! This causes them to be hit by the Earthquake at the end of each round. Unless they have a Monster with Cleanse on their team, this will cause some serious damage. There are a few monsters that have the flying ability, and you can supplement those with high-health or healing monsters like Serpent of Eld or Water Monster. Pelacor Bandit, Sea Genie, Ice Pixie, and Phantom of the Abyss are great water monsters that fly. Of course, those monsters without flying will be hit with the Earthquake, but so will the other team! The person who wins is the one who survives the longest, so keep that in mind.
No Vera? Try this!
If you don't have Vera, you can also try using monsters that have the Snare ability, like Evangelist, Sand Worm, Azmare Harpoonist, and Mittica Headhunter. This is especially effective if you use these monsters in combination with Brighton Bloom, because then they won't be hit by Earthquake! If Vera isn't available to me, I usually choose Brighton Bloom with the Life Splinter, and use Evangelist for the Snare. There are two monsters that have the Snare ability that also fly! Dragon Jumper and Soulstorm both get Snare at level 2, and both of them are also flying creatures! Other monsters that get this ability include Wave Runner, Goblin Fireballer, Child of the Forest, Mantoid, and Grenadier.
