At the end of every season the players have a reset down in league rankings for the new upcoming season. This has always been the case since I started playing which is over three years ago. There are benefits and drawbacks with the setup but today we dive into what is happening and how to cope with it in every single season.
Drop Off
I am focusing on Silver league because that is where I have my reset most of the seasons, but its similar in stats for all leagues. When I finish prior season I my league score is around 2200, and the game will cut about half my score to revise my league ranking.
From 2200 to 1100 I drop down to Silver III. From here I will start the new season limited in earning DEC per a win and my competition can be fierce. Why? Well I am not the only one who resets, everyone has resets too. Many very good players who may have stayed in Gold are now back into Silver too with me and as an opponent it can be challenging.
How To Cope?
On the first couple of days I often struggle to move up in leagues. I either have a group of losses to force myself down back into bronze league or I get lucky and have a win streak that I can ride my league score all the way close to or over to Gold league. The crucial way I found in playing through leagues is that you have to get a win streak going. Without it you can't accumulate enough league points quick enough to stack and move up in leagues.
When I am on a roll in wins I tend to maintain the same splinter as long as I can before the match rule sets forces me to use a different splinter. In this season I got my luck going with fire splinter and I maintain the splinter as far as I can go. I did not get more than 6 wins for a streak but I have multiple win streaks that allow me to accumulate enough league points to move to Silver I.
The go to splinters I am currently leaning mostly on are death and water. I have a whole bunch of magic cards in water and my best summoner in Waka is death splinter. All in all its important to start off the season with your best setups so that you have best odds of winning. You do not want to get too many losses to force yourself down in ranking because the limitation in level cards at lower leagues makes anyone's deck limited in play.
Silver league the level limitations on cards are pretty extreme. Although this was intended to not allow players with higher level cards to have the advantage it handicaps the cards they can use. It is important to always try to get ahead in league points right after a reset. This is because veterans like myself will tend to have enough max level cards that my play is limited until I can get enough points to move into gold league. Staying in Silver limits me to using my cards efficiently.
Conclusions
After playing for years I feel I fit well in the Gold league. I have enough max level cards I can manage to do fine in Gold league. However this can not be achieved at every single season and that is because of the new season resets.
Splinterland's intent with the resets is to may the play exciting for all. Allow players even at the top to give chase as to trying to move up in rankings. There is no good feeling other than knowing you have improve in the game by leveling in the leagues. Each season everyone gets that opportunity and it makes it fun.
However do not try to do too much to make it through the reset. Instead make sure you get right to it by using your best cards as soon as possible in order to get yourself into the proper league you want to be in. Holding out or dropping in league due to losses at the beginning of the season will effect your earnings for the rest of the season and gameplay.
