As always first let's jump to the ruleset description.
All units receive the Return Fire ability at the start of the battle. Enemy units that attack with ranged attacks receive damage back.
Damage returned is equal to damage of the attacker divided by 2, rounded up.
Ranged attack units with the Reflection Shield ability do not take damage from reflected magic attacks.
The Amplify ability increases damage.
Firstly, the description of the ruleset in the game is not perfect, sometimes you got just general information which not giving you all information you need. Best way to read the full description as above from the game documentation at least once. You can check all here.

I don't want to repeat myself, all rules regarding other types of return damage ruleset apply here as well. So the best way is just to avoid playing range units at all. There are not many options to get more protection against range damage, so some strategies that could be viable for magic reflection damage don't work so well here. Of course, as I always state, Splinterlands is a mind game, you need to be more clever than your opponents. So sometimes thinking outside the box and using units that your opponent is not expecting could be a good idea. And I know, it's already boring, but we are in martyr cards meta. And here martyr cards are nice targets for themself (all of martyr cards so far are ranged units), so if you use them right, that can buff your team without worrying about some tricky targeting problem.
Today's battle is a bronze brawl fight. As some of you know I usually play this kind of brawl for my YGG Legacy guild. My collection is not great, but usually enough to at least have some chances even versus higher collection opponents. I always try to rent some key cards to increase that chance :).
We have quite an interesting ruleset combination. The opponent team seems strong, mostly magic units. I had a similar strategy with just one range unit, which I think it's very strong to risk using with the return fire ruleset. Let's see who will win.
Round 2. Because of the rebirth ruleset, we are still seeing all units on the battlefield. Fortunately, we manage to kill their tank in the first round, and after rebirth, all units get back armor protection. I really like all of the life leach units in equalizer ruleset, and Usul is so strong. But it seems that we got more firepower with a better focus.
Round 3, we killed rebirthed Bear and damaged significantly the strongest card on the battlefield - Usul. We still haven't lost the unit and it seems that our strategy can work here.
Round 4, Usul is dead, fortunately, he wasn't able to get any bloodlust buff, I think it was a mistake to put that card in a second position. But we talk more in the battle analysis section. Now we need to deal with that life leechers :)
Round 5, every equalizer battle is longer than usual, here we got no exception. We lost our last unit due to a sneak attack monster, but it was rebirth, probably not for long :). Our only range unit Swamp Spitter is still doing a great job, I really like that monster.
Round 7, let's jump faster, we lost our Oshannus, but he was just resurrected and still ready to attack. Our life leech unit compares to the enemy's looks so great 17 HP and 5 armor, and definitely has better positioning on our site.
Round 8, now it's just a question of time. The opponent's range unit was resurrected and will kill itself in the next attack. We got still have amazingly strong Runemancer Kye with life leech ability and some repair protection.
Round 9, finally final blow, ok not maybe this one because Silent Sha-vi will be resurrected in a few seconds and will die horribly after another few with Nerrisa attack :) The fight is our.
Firstly we have to say that our opponent made a lot of cardinal mistakes in this battle. Our range unit was effective with some support ability for the whole fight, the opponent's one has only decent damage and no other utility. And it just kills itself after a few rounds. Another thing that I always repeat in equalizer ruleset focus is the most important thing. You can read more about it here. Opponent didn't follow that rules and used sneak monster which was quite important to lose that fight. And last but not least, a very strong unit Usut should be more protected, the order is a key here and after some kills that unit could be unstopable. Let's see our choices.
We have already talked about some of the strategies if you have some limitations to the damage type. Of course, it's not a hard limit, sometimes it's a good strategy to use monsters with damage type which could kill them. As always I encourage you guys to check the excellent article of @iamgem005 , where you can find a more comprehensive list of cards that could be used for specific rulset. This time we have more about summoners which could be even deadlier than any other units on the battlefield :).
I haven't mentioned Amplify ability which is another good way to punish the unexpected or too audacious opponent. Unfortunately, I haven't got any battle for a presentation where I used martyr card as a fast buff for other cards, I hope I will still have occasion in another Strategy Corner article :).I hope you like this kind of battle and strategy presentation. This game is exactly the same as my prediction game which I run on my Wednesday Splinterlands.tv stream. I know that not everyone can attend the stream, so I hope you will still have fun that way. Game instruction:
Try to point out which monster will die first on the battlefield and who wins the battle
- t - top player
- b - bottom player
- number - order counting from the first position
Examples:
t2b = monster on the second position of top player die first, the bottom player wins
b6t = monster on the sixth position of bottom player die first, the top player wins
t3t = monster on the third position of top player die first, the top player wins
