Having wasted incredible amounts of time collecting "gold" and items in games like Diablo II and Diablo 3 for over twenty years, I only just last month realized that NOW - in 2021 - it's finally possible for me to actually play a game where I can ALSO invest from any level of wealth INTO the game, and profit from it.
In other words, now I can see how investing in what I love to do, can make me a fortune... Who knew, right?
So what did I do?

My journey started by dipping my toes in Splinterlands, buying a "license-to-play" for ten bucks. Within ten days two things happened to me. One was the epiphany, the realization that investing funds in my gaming made the game much more rewarding in both financial and emotional terms. With this realization, I started investing in Splinterlands LAND PLOT CLAIMS. The actual land plots are not available just yet, but this is as with any investment; the sooner you get in, the bigger the potential reward. The other thing that happened to me was a constant "In-game micropayment urge". In other words, I became a bit of a Splinterlands-Shopaholic™ 😆. something that has NEVER happened to me before. I have been purchasing Splinterlands cards on a daily basis, getting questionable returns on the immediate investment.

Splinterlands experiences so far - a bullet point list if you will:

• Investing in assets in a game that you like to play, pays off.
- My Splinterlands land plot claims investments most certainly have paid off. I could sell them right now for twice to three times the original value invested. I won't do that, obviously, since I haven't tried to play with them yet and, the value can only go up when more players enter a market with a (relatively) fixed amount of assets.

• The price for entering a new blockchain-type game is - or can be - staggeringly high. But this is simply because there have to be opportunities to invest. There is a world of difference between BUYING a game or a license-/subscriptionto-play and INVESTING in assets for collecting, utilizing in gameplay, and/or trading on a marketplace. This is in part a mental barrier that will be part of separating the top from the bottom - as always.

• Purchasing - and renting - cards for the daily quests, battles, and tournaments is immensely gratifying from an emotional shopping perspective, and the fact that it can be argued as part of an investment in assets can actually channel an individual's consumeristic tendencies to end up debt-ridden and poor, into an investment-to-get-rich mentality.

PS: The fact that all land plots were sold out already when I learned about the land plot claims sale, is of no importance to me now. I grieved a little over having to pay around three times the original price, but eventually when all in. Two weeks later it looks like I can get my investment back by selling off half the assets I procured in the first place. Not too shabby, eh? 😎🤑

Wow, you are a new and already can turn a profit from lands. This game is nuts. I am so lucky to be an Alpha investor. But I also saw the potential right away. Just like you, I spent much time on Diablo II and III (and WoW) and even made a little money selling DII items twenty years ago on ebay - but now it is all build-in and hyperdeflationary. I love it!
