For this week's challenge I chose the Wave Brood card from the water deck which is an excellent card when used with the right combination. But before talking about this combination I will explain more about the Wave Brood card and how it works in battle.
Wave Brood is a ranged card that is capable of attacking in the first position because it has the ability Close Range and it will be a great tank card for your battles because its health is quite high and it also has the ability Taunt that makes it the target of attacks from opposing cards. It has both abilities since level 1 so you can use it as a Tank card at any level, but like all cards it gets even stronger at higher levels and it still has 2 more abilities that I will mention soon.
Its stats at level 1 are 1 attack which is low for a card with that mana cost but as its main function will be to defend so this is not very important, 1 speed which is quite low so it will take time to attack and 12 health which is a very high value and one of the reasons why it is an excellent defensive card.
At level 6, which is his maximum level, he already has 2 attack so it improves a little but it's still a low value for a maximum level card that spends 8 mana, 1 speed which is the same value as his level 1 so speed remains the same at all levels so don't expect him to attack quickly unless he has the Reverse Speed rule in battle then his speed will be great for battle. In addition, he has 4 abilities that are obtained at different levels that I mentioned earlier. Taunt and Close Range from level 1, Void from level 4 and Return Fire from level 6.
The image above shows an overview of the Wave Brood card, remembering that there are level restrictions in the leagues so the Wave Brood at level 4 with the Void ability would only be possible in the gold league or above and the Wave Brood at level 6 with the ability Return fire would only be possible in diamond league or above.
Now I will explain in more detail how all his abilities work.
The enable as I mentioned before will make him the target of the opponent's attacks but if he is not positioned in the first position then he will be the target of all attacks except the opponent's first position card because this card will attack your first position card position.
The Close Range ability allows a card with a ranged attack to attack in first position, in addition to it there is also the Close Range rule that has the same effect on ranged cards.
The Void ability makes the card that has it have the damage taken by magic attacks reduced, so it will be a great ability to have if your opponent uses cards with magic attack in battle.
The Return Fire ability will cause Wave Brood to deal part of the damage taken by ranged attacks back to the card, so if a card with ranged attack attacks Wave Brood it will have part of the damage value dealt to Wave Brood as damage dealt for her.
Wave Brood's biggest weaknesses are its low attack and speed, and also its high mana cost but it is an excellent defensive card to have in battles.
For the battle besides Wave Brood I used other cards that were quite useful, these cards are:
Kelya Frendul (level 1) as a summoner that will be great for battle because it grants +1 shield and +1 speed to your cards and this will be very useful for Wave Brood which is a defensive card and also has low speed.
Wave Brood (level 1) which is a defensive ranged card and will do very well in this position.
The Deeplurker (level 1) which is a melee card with the Opportunity ability that makes him attack the opponent's lowest life card and this will be very useful to give the final blow to my opponent's cards.
Merdaali Guardian (level 1) which is a card without attack but very useful because it has the Tank Heal ability that makes it heal the first position card that would be Wave Brood so it will be an excellent support for him and also one of the cards of the combination I mentioned at the beginning of the post.
The Scavo Hireling (level 1) which is also a card without attack but has the Repair ability that will repair part of the shield of the card that suffered the most damage, so it's another card that will be an excellent support for Wave Brood and also another card combination card.
The Ice Pixie (level 1) which is a card with magic attack that has the ability Flying that makes it have a greater chance to dodge attacks from other cards that do not have the ability Flying.
The Angelic Mandarin (level 1) which is a ranged card with no abilities but has a low mana cost and a good amount of health.
See the Battle
In the battle my opponent used a summoner that decreases the magic attack and the health of my cards by 1 so my cards will have less health and the magic attack reduction will not affect my cards because Ice Pixie is the only card of this type and its attack is 1 which is the minimum allowed in battles.
Choosing Kelya Frendul was a great idea because most of my opponent's cards are melee and ranged so her shield will be very useful in battle.
In this battle the available mana is 29 and there are no rules
Round 1
In the first round having Wave Brood defending in the first position was a great choice because he was the target of all attacks and with the help of Kelya Frendul's shield and Merdaali Guardian and Scavo Hireling cards he was able to defend losing a lot of life, meanwhile my other cards were able to attack without problem and my opponent doesn't have any support cards to help him.
In this round the Deeplurker was also very useful because he was able to defeat the Undead Badger card with his Opportunity ability.
Round 2
In the second round, Wave Brood's defense was again excellent but only possible because of the help of Merdaali Guardian and Scavo Hireling. I don't have much attack so I have to be patient to damage my opponent but Deeplurker is being an excellent choice because thanks to him every round my opponent loses one of his cards from the back row.
The card that was targeted by the Deeplurker this time was the Death Elemental and it was defeated.
Round 3
In the third round finally the Cursed Windeku card that was my opponent's greatest defense was defeated, now there are only 3 cards left for him and the health of my Wave Brood card is low, so I will depend on Merdaali Guardian and Scavo Hireling for it survive for 1 more round.
Round 4
In the fourth round Wave Brood received healing from Merdaali Guardian which prevented him from being defeated so he continues in the battle, soon after he received the shield from Scavo Hireling so the danger of being defeated is now very low and my opponent has a card ranged in first position which is unable to attack.
The Deeplurker's target this time was the Silent Sha-Vi and she was defeated.
Round 5
In the fifth round there is no more danger of Wave Brood being defeated since my opponent has only 1 card capable of attacking in battle and it has only 1 attack so Wave Brood is accumulating more health from Merdaali Guardian's healing.
The Deeplurker's target this time was the Dhampir Stalker and he was defeated.
Round 6
In the sixth round, there was only 1 card left from my opponent in the battle and it had only 1 life so it was quickly defeated and the battle ended.
Conclusion
This was a battle where Wave Brood was very useful and he prevented my other cards from being attacked by Silent Sha-Vi, Undead Badger and Death Elemental which were cards that attacked the opponent's back row, but this it was only possible with the help of Merdaali Guardian and Scavo Hireling that saved him from being defeated every round so if you are looking for a great defensive card that is incredibly strong in defense with this combination, Wave Brood is this card.
Deeplurker was also very helpful in defeating my opponent's back row cards and that also made a big difference in the battle.
Nice article. I play a similar water strategy where I am now at bronze I. Instead of Wavebrood I prefer Djinn Oshannus. It also has void, but is much quicker and dishes out more damage than Wavebrood. Give it a try and watch your rating climb.
Excellent, thanks! I have been Wavebrooding myself to Bronze II as of recent and i find it very cheesy...but hey...theres just too many damn bots there so...i see nothing wrong with it!
Djinn Oshannus is also a great defense but Wave Brood has more health and the ability Taunt that makes it the target of attacks so I consider it a better defense, but I will also start using Djinn Oshannus. Thanks for the tip. !PIZZA
Great battle! Thanks for sharing. I will definitely try to use the Wave Brood more often
Thanks. Wave Brood is an excellent card and it gets even better when combined with Merdaali Guardian and Scavo Hireling, you won't regret it. !PIZZA
