After a long time away from the battlefields of Splinterlands, I decided to return to the game. My reason for returning was that I recently decided to research the game again and discovered interesting updates such as the Rewards Shop, the League Tier Advance Chests and the recently announced Survival Mode.
In fact, I would say that the main factors that made me return to the game were Nostalgia and this announcement of Survival Mode. Although I find a rewards shop interesting, I didn't see much difference from what already existed in Splinterlands, the only difference with this shop is that now you can focus on which asset you want. But compared to Splinterlands from a few years ago, I don't see the rewards as being very attractive since the Soulbounds cards were implemented. I've always enjoyed the thrill of opening a chest and pulling out a card worth tens or even hundreds of dollars that you could immediately sell on the market for a profit, and even if I didn't sell it, I still had that thrill of having a valuable card in my collection that I got for "free" (it won't be free because there are always costs to play, whether buying cards or renting them).
But even with these big changes that took some of the shine off the game, I'm still optimistic about the future of Splinterlands, and I'm not saying that just because of the introduction of a new game mode, but because I've always found Splinterlands to be fun, and now that we're in a possible bull market, maybe the game will return to its golden age.
Another change I noticed was the introduction of a battle pass. At first I was excited because I thought it would be a pass that would reward players with assets during the season when they met certain conditions, but after researching I realized that it was just a way to reduce the amount of bots in the game. I'm happy with this change because it makes the game healthier, since bots are the main cause of many NFT games ending, at least when they are used in an abusive way with dozens, hundreds or thousands of accounts. I still hope that in the future Splinterlands introduces a battle pass that works to reward players with assets. It would be a very interesting thing to happen because it would motivate players to play more, especially if one of the conditions was to reach a certain number of victories or battles during the season. This way, many players would buy energy and the game would have a greater DEC burn or at least more utility for Glint.
After returning to the game, I decided not to waste too much time and see how the gameplay is currently going and also the gains in SPS. So to start, I rented some cards at the Gold league level and didn't have much trouble reaching Gold 1 with them. From what I saw watching other players' battles, it's not difficult to reach the Diamond league with a Gold league deck (in Wild format).
My SPS gain is not bad, I rented 50000 SPS to start and currently I am earning on average 1 SPS to 1.5 SPS.
From the Novice league to the Gold 1 league I had to battle 66 times, of which I won 64 and lost 2.
Now that there is no level limit per league, it has become easy to reach the higher leagues quickly as long as you have a strong deck since even in the Gold league, many players use Novice, Bronze or Silver level cards in their battles.
This is an example of a battle that I found fun and that shows that even in the Gold league, players use lower level cards.
My strategy was good, but even if it wasn't, I would still have an advantage in the battle because I have stronger cards. Now I'm just waiting for my energy to be restored so I can try to get into the diamond league. My strategy at the moment is to reach the highest league I can so that when the season resets, I can start in a good league and rent stronger cards to try to reach the Champion League and see the rewards there.
From the Novice league to the Gold 1 league, I got 9 rewards from the League Tier Advance Chests and Survival Mode. They were:
I'm still disappointed with the Soulbounds cards, since I have to pay a high price to unlock them and it seems like the market doesn't have much liquidity for them. But they're still great cards to have in my collection and they'll help me in my goal of reaching higher leagues.
