Splinterlands for Beginners: A Tip About Renting Out Your Cards and Earning More DEC

Hello everyone!

I started playing Splinterlands in November of 2021, and have been buying cards to build my teams. I decided to rent out some of my cards to earn more DEC. Here's what I learned.

Splinterlands Rental System

Some players prefer to rent the cards that they need. It's a good way to get temporary collection power and experiment with new cards. This means that any player who owns cards can rent those cards out to other players.

When I started renting out cards, I discovered some would rent fast while others just sat and sat without bringing in any DEC.

Level 2 summoners did well. They got picked up immediately. Gold foil, legendary and epic cards also went fast. I also had a few level 2 rare cards that got rented out.

Choosing Cards to Rent Out

I noticed that my common cards weren't getting picked up. They were just sitting there not earning any DEC at all.

What I didn't know is the current starter deck includes common and rare cards from Chaos Legion and Untamed. All players have those cards as Level 1 starter cards.

Renting Out Cards: An Experiment

Most level one cards are cheap right now. So, out of curiosity, I decided to see what would happen if I took some of my level 1 common cards and leveled them up to level 3. I choose level 3 because that’s the limit for use with a level two summoner.

Radiated Brute

Radiated Brute is the first card I chose. I had a level 2 and three level 1 cards for rent. As you can see, the cards were on the rental market but no one rented them.

I went ahead and leveled Radiated Brute up to a level 3 card. In the end, that left me with one level 3 card and one level 1 card remaining. The level 3 card rented almost as soon as I put it on the market.

Cruel Sethropod

Cruel Sethropod was my second card. I had three level 1 cards on the rental market but no one rented them.

But after I got a level 3 Cruel Sethropod, it also rented out very fast.

Lesson Learned

You're not going to make much DEC if you're simply renting out cards everyone has in the starter deck. Upgrading your level 1 common cards to level 3 is a good investment if you can afford it.

Do you have any tips to share about renting out cards? I'm a new player and always happy to learn more about the game.

Thanks!

Great tip on renting and why even pushing to a level 3 card would be in your best interest.

Thanks. I'm glad you found the info useful. Hopefully I'll get some level 3 summoners soon too.

Excellent advice man!

I only started playing about 3 weeks ago and currently have 2 epic cards rented in the market, Looking to do more renting in the coming days!

How has your games been? Ive been gettin the shit kicked outta me, and after 3 weeks i finally touched Bronze II LOOOOOL!!! https://www.splintertalk.io/@jin-out/entering-the-gates-of-bronze-ii

Thanks. I've gotten better. Made it to Bronze I but don't have enough card power for Silver III. Hopefully I will soon. But I'm only good with the Fire and Death decks. I'm terrible with all the rest.

Good advice. Renting is a very important lesson. Sharing this on Splinterlands Digest Twitter.

Hi! Welcome to Splinterlands!

Not sure if you're already doing this, but one tip that we can give you to increase the chance of your cards being rented is to list the cards at a lower price than the other listings. If you're planning to do that, this can be easily done via the Renting Out feature in PeakMonsters :)

Of course the main drawback of this is that you will be getting less DEC/day.

Sending here a how-to post link written by one of our users: https://peakd.com/splintertalk/@pogier/passive-income-through-renting-with-peakmonsters-its-super-convenient

Thank you. I appreciate the information.
