Splinterlands - The team with the most mana doesn't always win!

Hello everyone, and welcome back to my Splinterlands blog, I hope you're doing great in real life as well as in your Splinterlands career, I'm working extra hard earning as much glint as I can in preparation for the launch of Conclave Arcana, this is when everything changes because Chaos Legion will rotate out of Modern League, and I will need to get back to my roots, being a Silver player again.

We need to think ahead about these things and the options we have, and then make a choice about what is the best way going forward. For me this was switching the decks between my two accounts, one being a max Chaos Legion deck, and my alt account being a Gold level deck, but it's just a dumping ground really because it was cheaper to buy new max level Chaos Legion summoners then to max my existing summoners, so now my alt account has a pretty high deck too but it lacks a lot of the leveled up legendary cards to really kick ass, and that's fine, we just can't have it all!

So, planning ahead I've decided this account will be fighting in Wild League after the big change, maybe by hand, maybe played by Archmage I have to decide when we get there, my alt account @nozem will be my Modern Silver account but it needs a strong Silver level reward deck too, and it was 'only' earning anywhere from 30 to 50k glint every season so it wasn't getting a lot of the much needed epic cards in the set, so a temporary change had to be made, a complete switch around, this took me several hours, delegating a lot of cards back and forth. In a perfect world both accounts would own their own set but reality is my main account owns most and delegates to my alt, so I had to start from scrap and decide which card goes where, a tedious job but it had to be done!

This is the first full season with this change, and now my alt account is up to 144k glint in total with still two days left in this season, but with only two energy left at this time. 😅

So, this is a little insight in the head of a random Splinterlands player, I like to make every post a bit personal and not just spam the required challenge out there and be quickly done with it.

Social Media Challenge

So, on with today's main topic, both @splinterlands challenges have already launched today, which is a bit early for the Community Engagement Challenge, so it looks like I have a lot of work, making two posts today! 😋

This weeks Social Media Challenge is the same as last weeks:

🔥 Share Your Most Remarkable Splinterlands Moments: Do you possess a battle of epic proportions that deserves to be seen by all? Have you crafted something extraordinary within the Splinterlands realm? Maybe you've got profound thoughts, insights, or strategies related to stats, cards, abilities, or gameplay that are waiting to be shared? We want it all, and we want it to be nothing short of AMAZING!

And I like to save cool battles I can later use to talk about, playing at the max level is VERY competitive and I'm getting tossed around by the big boys with all these nice and expensive cards I don't have whenever I cross the 3000 rating, but I also beat a lot of max level decks with my Gold level account, it's a different playing style on both accounts, both equally fun, but just different.

To find out how you can participate in the challenge yourself, check out the splinterlands post here.

The team with the most mana doesn't always win!

So, when a splinterlands player sees the rule set combination and the available mana with the splinters open to be chosen, our brain starts to puzzle and we think about all the possibilities and combinations, this is different for every player because all of us have different cards at different levels, except for the top that owns pretty much everything at max level of course.

The battle I saved was from earlier this week and I want to use it to show the best team isn't the one with the biggest cards and the most mana used, I have to admit I was a little surprised I won against this line up though, a higher level summoner with two maxed out legendary cards and the third legendary card (at level 1) was... Rage! He's awesome, but too expensive for me! The battle was fought in the Modern League with a Broken Arrows / Taking Sides / Four's a Crowd rule set combination and only the Life and Dragon splinters are open to be chosen from.

With only four cards in both teams, a proper back line could't be set up, so I just wanted to hit hard, and without the luxury of the many big legendary cards my max level account has, I had to be creative. This account does have a nice deck of reward cards to back it up!

First look at the battlefield:

image.png

O damn! Three overpowered legendary cards, I was pretty sure I was going to lose this fight, the only thing that was in my favor was I countered the Stitch Leech with Evelyn, who has Thorns but that was about it. But then again I tend to under estimate my own teams pretty often! 😅

My Line-Up:

  • Summoner: Grandmaster Rathe - reason: +1 Void Armor to protect against magic.
  • First position: Drybone Barbarian - reason: Great tank, does awesome damage once enraged, retaliate is very dangerous and hits like a truck.
  • Second position: Nimbledook Explorer - reason: Non attack card, to receive Weapons Training and gives Protect.
  • Third position: Aves Sturgis - reason: Magic Weapons Trainer.
  • Fourth position: Evelyn Auvera - reason: To receive Weapns Training, back line protection.

So, when we compare the mana both teams used, 48 for my opponent, 30 for me 😅 which is honestly caused by the lack of these giants, I simply don't have them on this account.

The Battle:

image.png

Round 1: O wow, the enemy tank got deleted! It's a great card, but mostly used behind another card, it doesn't do well against magic so I guess I'm lucky, but let's not celebrate just yet.

image.png

Round 2: Well it didn't take long before my tank was gone too, and now I only have 13 Health Points in total, good thing all armor is Void Armor! As you can see Nimbledook Explorer missed it's Armored Strike attack so that's pretty useless at this speed difference combined with Flying... With a voided tank and Chaos Dragon pounding on my back line I'm not going to survive this...

image.png

Round 3: O wow! Well it makes sense of course since magic can't miss without Phase, and my entire team is doing three magic damage so even with the Void, it's doing two damage, so Rage is killed... would I be able to win this!?

image.png

Round 4: O... M... G!! I'm going to win this fight!!! Pretty cool by the way that with the new modern client and new battle set-up we can now pause the fight at any time to get cool action stills, this wasn't possible with the old system!

image.png

Round 5: Very very cool to win this fight!! It was really a David vs. Goliath match for me! I wonder how my opponent watched this battle! 🤣

With the lack of enough staked SPS I'm not earning that much SPS but it's still pretty nice for me!

You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.

With my max level account battle energy drained to almost 0, I still have my Gold level account to play in, it has 30 energy left at the moment, and I also need to make my seconds blog post for this week so I can buy more Rebellion cards with, in preparation for next year, busy Splinterlands day!! 😅
