Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge - Weak Magic - Modern Diamond Ranked

in Splinterlandslast year
Hello everyone! This is my first entry for this week's Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge with the Weak Magic rule set!

Weak Magic is an interesting rule set because it changes the game without reducing the cards that you can play. It is quite simple: magic damage hits the armor before it hits the health. It makes magic work like other types of damage regarding the armor interaction. Monsters with a lot of armor and summoners that give armor become better. Shatter and Repair also become more important. Magic becomes less effective. But it's that a rule set that you need to focus your team around. Magic monsters are still good and many cards without armor still work out great.

Let's take a look at a game with this rule set. I fought an interesting battle in Modern Diamond Ranked: https://splinterlands.com/?p=battle&id=sl_11b0c2115f75904cebef65c9a78e68fc

This game also has the Little League and Heavy Hitters rule sets. We both went with Kelya not just because of the armor but also because of the speed and a lot of good Water monsters. We have very similar teams. 4 of the monsters are the same and only the archers are in different positions. I opted for the bigger ones and they went with the ones that have utility. Their Igor Darkspear can be dangerous with Stun on Heavy Hitters. We also had different We started trading attacks and I was unlucky losing the coin flip on which Xenith Monk attacked first. If mine attacked first it would have killed theirs and survived another round. At least, I hit the poison, so theirs didn't survive but it would have been nice to keep mine alive. Next round, I lost the coin flip again on which Pelacor Bandit attacked first. My Merdhampir took 4 damage but it didn't matter because they didn't have any other Sneak monster. I think my positioning is better because it allowed my Bandit to live longer and I also prefer the archer behind Doctor Blight. They won another coin flip between the Bite Biters but I was still in a good position because they already had archers in front. We both hit the poison and at the end of the 3rd round we had both Doctors facing each other but mine was backed up by 2 archers so it easily won.
