Hello everyone! This is my second entry for this week's Splinterlands Social Media Challenge. Today I'm sharing a battle of mine in Modern Diamond Ranked.
I fought an interesting battle in Modern Diamond ranked. This battle has the Going the Distance rule set. This is a rule set that only allows players to use ranged units. You can still use units that have magic/melee attacks if they also have ranged attacks. It's often a very good idea to do so! It's one of my least favorite rule sets because it's very restrictive and it can combine pretty poorly with some other rule sets. Regardless, we all need to learn to play in the rule sets we don't like, in order to have better chances. Looking at the 5 rare Chaos Legion summoners, which should be the ones most players have access to, it's easy to see that the summoner for this rule set is General Sloan. Looking at other options, there's also Quix the Devious, Ilthain, Prophet Rosa, and Risqruel Drath. That's just in Modern, which is where I will focus, since that's where I play, but I know there are plenty good options in Wild too. However, these are just the abilities/stats that relate directly to ranged attacks. There are at least three other modern summoners that work well for this rule set: Kelya Frendul, Lux Vega, and Astral Entity. The armor and speed of the first 2 can be as good or even better than some of those range specific stats or abilities. As for Astral Entity, Dodge and removal of armor, can generate a similar effect as the first two and the Resurrect can be amazing, especially on a Venari Marksrat. We also have to taken into account other rule sets, mana cap, and which units each summoner allows, when deciding what to pick.

This game only had Going the Distance as its rule set. It was a 34 mana cap game with only Death and Dragon splinters inactive. I picked Kelya and placed Gargoya Devil in front, followed by Wave Brood. Next, I used Angelic Mandarin and Swamp Spitter and finished the team with Mar Toren Trader and Igor Darkspear. They opted for Ilthain, also going with Gargoya Devil in the first position. For the second one, they also used a taunt unit: Gallicus. They followed it up with Venari Marksrat, Supply Runner, and Venari Crystalsmith. They finished with Pelacor Arbalest.

Round 1
They attacked by Wave Brood several times. However, since they were unable to kill it, Angelic Mandarin undid a big part of that damage. My team was a bit slower, but it was still able to take out Gallicus.

Round 2
They continued to attack my taunt unit but failed to finish it, once again. On top of that, their units had taken more Backfire damage than mine, because of the armor. I was able to finish their Gargoya Devil and Marksrat before the end of the round.

Round 3 and 4
Their team was barely functional, with only 2 attackers left. Arbalest died to the Return Fire and I finished the Supply Runner. In round 4, my team eliminated their final unit.

Ilthain might feel like the easy and obvious choice but Water can replicate the effect with Wave Brood. Combining it with Angelic Mandarin for the Triage, Swamp Spitter for the Repair, and Mar Toren Trader for the Headwinds, made up for a very resilient tank. However, it would have been more difficult if their Gallicus was at max level, because it gets Headwinds when maxed.
