Tournament Report - Gold for Gold

in Splinterlands2 years ago
I have started playing some anytime tournaments, and they've been very fun! I enjoy these much more than the regular single-elimination tournaments where you have to play at a certain hour. It never feels good to schedule a time to play, maybe even rent some cards, and be out of it in the first couple of rounds. For me, these have been much more satisfying to play. I've also been able to earn a decent amount of SPS and get to play more Splinterlands games, other than the ranked battles.

Here's the prize pool:

In these tournaments, each person plays a number of games, usually 11, in a 24 hours period. The top X% (can be 20%, 30%, or 40%) advances to the next phase, which works exactly the same in the next 24 hours period. That means you only need enough time to submit all teams, twice, in two days! I'm currently playing in Gold (ranked play), so I have most cards fully leveled up for this tournament.

Tournament Report

Let's see how this one goes!

Day 1:

Match 1:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_tHtOjaZZag22Fp9tOulM&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

I had much more speed. Grum was able to get a kill but it wasn't enough to get going and he died without getting a second attack.

image.png

Match 2:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_HpfaFRaV4XfF7K1p0zcC&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

This would have been worse for me if they had higher level cards or if they went with Thaddius Brood instead of Quix the Devious. As soon as I took out Djinn Muirat, I was able to quickly take care of most of their monsters.

image.png

Match 3:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_XxCTbqTTWZvOqhY0n1KW&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Close game. My heals and repairs were very much needed to win. Grum was unable to get a single kill because Forgotten One got a Retaliate. Eventually, it was Antoid Platoon vs. Tenyii Striker and Striker won.

image.png

Match 4:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_p88LLoiOWnplCAHWw0H6&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Huge level difference, the game wasn't close.

image.png

Match 5:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_qpUU4lwdz3kMdaMXvMax&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

The stun was very nice. It stopped the healing and the attack for 1 turn, enough for me to get the win.

image.png

Match 6:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_zxVdIls6gqhVp52eBgFy&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Similar teams but I went with higher mana cards. I used Wave Brood and Baakjira to take most of the damage, in the back. Baakjira also meant my team was faster. I quickly took out some of their monsters and the game was mine.

image.png

Match 7:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_35FfdOPaxgm7AdpuRYp3&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

I think this game could have gone wrong if I had been unlucky with Chaos Dragon. It was good that I was able to take out Grund on the first turn. It would have hurt to take 3 attacks on the second turn.

image.png

Match 8:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_GYsxvEs3Gw4MQLsgIOig&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

With Blast and Snipe, it was easy to take out their whole backline. When it was only Uriel left, it wasn't enough to survive my whole team.

image.png

Match 9:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_zWhPnPzGk2Ifj9xkCrWl&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

The game didn't look good, at the start. However, once I killed Uriel twice, it turned in my favor.

image.png

Match 10:

image.png

Free win of the day!

image.png

Match 11:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_IL7maUx73musvMno6Dwy&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

I had too little firepower to beat their team.

image.png

10-1 in the first day is almost perfect! This leaves me in a great position for the second day.

Day 2:

Match 1:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_HL0XHhARpzwg4d2WZHQr&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

They got a few Retaliates but it wasn't enough to kill all my monsters to reach the ranged ones.

image.png

Match 2:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_HbNm4VWhVSv6NepMrdYM&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

It's weird to see a level 1 team on day 2 but I'll take it.

image.png

Match 3:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_AaMNPISCZ4Sr8iwWbMxl&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

In high mana games it's usually a good idea to go with Dragon to be able to play all those huge mana and powerful monsters.

image.png

Match 4:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_B0MNyGagrwJSlZfTndJy&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

At first glance, I thought I would lose this game. Their first 2 monsters have Void and they have 3 heals. I also have 3 heals but no damage reduction. However, I have much more firepower. When I took out Wave Brood, it was easy to kill the monster in the second position because they had low health.

image.png

Match 5:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_5xDTsgEtfPcBgsJc8P3B&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Riftwing wasn't doing too much here. Eventually, it was just Cursed Windeku and I had enough firepower to take it out.

image.png

Match 6:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_EKoWpzF2i7AvL7DOxhiW&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

My Diemonshark has some clutch dodges that allowed it to attack one more time. I'm not sure I needed but it was nice, for sure. Deeplurker was only hitting for 1 damage because Mycelic Slipspawn has Forcefield.

image.png

Match 7:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_10PUvSCSFtcc13EW0KlD&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

I went with Mycelic Infantry instead of Grund to fully use the Reverse Speed rule set. It turned out well for me because it was able to kill Grund before getting killed.

image.png

Match 8:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_8lBQvZbyXBt6WdIVZo9i&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Diemonshark is a beast! The game didn't look good for me but suddenly it was enraged and killed everything.

image.png

Match 9:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_zitqRGWoikt51eV8rAJA&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Without misses, I would always win this game but there was a chance I would get several misses and lose. I'm glad I didn't and won.

image.png

Match 10:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_PnG4dp2Nq9bxYEvN4kDm&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Very similar teams but their position worked better and the higher levels also helped.
Match 11:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_DaQFT53f2jobEG2eD2kS&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Very similar teams but their Merdaali Guardian did a lot for them. I had some unlucky misses and they didn't, even though I had Flying Squid with Blind.

image.png

9-2 on the second day for a 19-3 total. That was enough for 4th place, which is the same prize as 1st: 30 SPS! This was the reason for my Gold for Gold title! Congratulations to Scar422, the champion, and to everyone else who played!

I hope you enjoyed reading this and if that's the reason you decide to start participating in these tournaments, please let me know!
