DEEPLURKER - Battle Challenge

DEEPLURKER

The monster for this week's battle challenge is the Deeplurker, and while in paper it seems great, I had some trouble using it effectively in battle. This scary fish is a common water card from the Chaos Legion set.

I really like its ability and stats overall, however, my main problem seems to be finding the right mana cap and position in which to put it. However, in the end, I think I managed to do it, and here's my battle using it.

Stats

As I said before, the Deeplurker's stats are great, even at level 1. It has 3 melee, 2 speed and 6 health, with Opportunity, which allows it to target the enemy with the least health remaining. Now, what I've been having trouble is with its high mana cost, since with the mana caps for bronze battles, it's sometimes hard to fit this fish in.

However, after moving up the leagues, it gets better as it gains Poison and Demoralize, and also some nice stats, having 5 melee, 4 speed and 7 health at max level.

Preparations

  • Allowed Splitners: All.
  • Mana Cap: 17.

Cards Used

CardDescription
KELYA FRENDUL

This great summoner gives +1 speed and +1 armor. Both are great defensive buffs, since it protects the monsters from one physical attack, and makes them more likely to avoid attacks.
CRUEL SETHROPOD

This 3 mana monster is great for low mana battles, thanks to its high health and armor for such a low cost.
FEASTING SEAWEED

Just like the Deeplurker, this monster has Opportunity. When combining both, the weaklings from the other team will fall quickly.
DEEPLURKER

This week's card, I put it in the back to protect from sneak attacks. And, as said before, combined with the Feasting Seaweed, it could spell trouble for the enemy team.

Battle

And now, I'll tell you about the battle. However, to see the full battle, click here!

ROUND 1

The enemy went with Thaddius Brood, decreasing my monsters' health. But what worries me is his tank, the Cursed Windeku. With its thorns, every time I melee attack it, I'll receive damage as well, and, as you can see, all my monsters are melee attackers.

Well, to start the battle, the summoners give their buffs and debuffs. Then, the Death Elemental and Cursed Windeku attack my tank, but thanks to its armor, it stands in its place. Then, the Deeplurker defeats with one blow the Cursed Slimeball, and the Seaweed defeats the Death Elemental, being the one with the least health now.

With this, I defeated 2 of the opponent's monsters, but my main tank is in peril.

ROUND 2

Not surprisingly, the Sethropod falls in battle after the Windeku's attack. Then, the Deeplurker defeats the Life Sapper, making this a 2 v 1 battle, however, the only enemy left is the most fearsome.

Finally, the Seaweed attacks the Windeku, and thanks to its 1 armor, it doesn't die after the thorns damage.

ROUND 3

image.png

The Windeku starts by defeating the Seaweed. Right after, the Deeplurker attacks, leaving the Windeku with only 3 health, while destroying its own armor by the thorns.

ROUND 4

image.png

The Windeku attacks, leaving my monster with only 3 health. Then, it retaliates, defeating the Windeku, but it takes thorns damage in the process. However, it survives the damage with 1 health remaining. Yes, this battle couldn't have been any closer. I still can't believe I won that.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Just like last week's battle, this was very close, and for a moment I thought I had lost it all. However, thanks to the Deeplurker's high attack, it could take the Wendiku down without taking much damage. However, the star of this battle had to be the summoner Kelya. Thanks to her +1 armor, my monsters could attack the Wendiku once without taking direct damage. That's what ultimately won me the battle.

Now, I really like the Deeplurker, and I hope that when I get to silver, I can use it more in battle since it could shine brighter there.
