Weekly Battle Challenge - Delwyn Dragonscale

in Splinterlands3 years ago (edited)

DELWYN DRAGONSCALE

For this weekly challenge, we'll be taking on the Dragon splinter. We don't have any specific card, so we can choose whichever we want.

Since I don't have a Dragon card, I decided to rent one to tackle this challenge. I chose Delwyn Dragonscale, since he's a very useful summoner, especially in lower leagues.

This card is a Common Dragon Summoner from the Promo set. This gives him the distinction of being the only Common summoner!

Lore

Some time ago, Daria Dragonscale nearly lost her twin brother Delwyn to the Burn that had stricken so many of the scaled. She would have lost him completely, but at his deathbed she hired the services of a dark sorcerer who transferred his soul into a special Heliosoulstone. While he was suspended inside the stone, Daria traveled to the Earth Splinter, where she visited the Flesh Golems in the root of the Elder Tree. With their help, she created a new Golem from fleshy scraps. Delwyn’s soul was transferred into the new Golem, and Daria had her brother back… forever.

Stats

Delwyn gives +1 Magic attack to every allied monster. This is the same buff that Obsidian (the new Earth summoner) gives. However, as you can see, Delwyn costs 1 more mana. The reason for this is that being a Dragon summoner he can be used with any other Splinter. This is a huge boost since there are some good magic monsters in Splinters other than Earth that would benefit from a +1 magic.

Preparations

Ruleset

Target Practice: All Ranged and Magic attack Monsters have the Snipe ability.

Broken Arrow: Ranged attack Monsters may not be used in battles.

  • Allowed Splitners: Fire, Water, Life, and Dragon.
  • Mana Cap: 29.

The Target Practice ruleset only applies to Magic monsters, since ranged monsters aren't allowed in battle. This, combined with the fact that Earth isn't available, is why I decided to go for Delwyn, focusing on magic attacks.

Cards Used

Delwyn Dragonscale

As stated before, his buff is great for a magic-centric team. This combined with target practice, allows me to defeat the opponent's magic users more quickly.

Serpent of Eld

I figured the enemy will put a melee monster in the first position, so I put this serpent here to avoid their attacks, thanks to its high speed and Dodge ability.

Djinn Oshannus

Thanks to his Void ability, he takes less damage from magic attacks. That's why I put him in 2nd position, since the enemy's magic will target him.

Creeping Ooze

This blob is able to slow down the enemy team, allowing me to have a speed advantage, going first, and avoiding more attacks.

Venari Wavesmith

She gives +2 armor to every allied monster, protecting the monsters with low health from the opponent's melee attacks.

Ice Pixie

While this little fairy doesn't have much health, she makes it up for it with her speed and magic damage. She's even more powerful thanks to Delwyn's buff.

Hardy Stonefish

This monster only costs 1 mana, so I decided to put it in the last position in case the enemy used sneak attacks.

Battle

ROUND 1

I thought the enemy would go for a magic team as well, however, it went for a mostly melee team. This means that Oshannus in the first position isn't as useful as I thought. However, the Wavesmith is a great addition, protecting everyone from melee attacks.

Also, my opponent used the Shieldbearer as a tank to redirect all of my attacks to him, thanks to Taunt. This meant that my magic monsters attacked him instead of defeating the Truthspeaker or Scavo Hireling.

Meanwhile, he attacked the Serpent of Eld, getting rid of its armor, but without dealing extra damage. As for the enemy's Harpy, she attacks my Creeping Ooze, however, it's protected because of its armor granted by the Wavesmith.

ROUND 2

First, Oshannus finishes off the Shieldbearer, allowing my magic monsters to attack the backline. That way, the 2 opposing support monsters are defeated one after the other.

As for the enemy, they're still unable to deal damage to any of my monsters.

ROUND 3

My magic monsters defeat the Time Mage and then focus on attacking the Luminous Eagle. Finally, the Harpy is able to defeat my creeping Ooze, after 3 attacks. However, it's too late with a 5 v 2 battle.

ROUND 4

Once again, Oshannus defeats the tank before they're able to attack. And right after that, the Serpent of Eld deals the final blow on the Harpy, winning me the battle.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Even though Oshannus's ability wasn't used to its full extent (since the enemy went for a melee team), my strategy worked: Delwyn gave a huge boost to my monster's attack, allowing them to defeat the enemy much more quickly.

Since Alric is no longer part of the starter cards, Delwyn can be very useful, especially paired up with Water. I really enjoy using him, and I'm sad that I won't be able to use him anymore in the Modern league, once it arrives.

Overall, I'm happy with my strategy in the battle and I eagerly wait for the next battle challenge.
