Documenting my Splinterlands Knowledge - New Promo Event, Shop, and Cards

Hello there.

I remember at the end of my post last week I said that I will be talking about the new Rebellion Soulbound Reward cards. Unfortunately, I will have to delay it again. The Splinterlands team has been making a lot of changes and updates, so I'll focus on those first. The reward cards review can wait.

The first one I'll talk about is the new promo event. The team named it the "Hall of Legends" event. This is the promo card event after a successful proposal. The DAO will be receiving the proceeds of this, so I'm hoping it is successful. They are actually doing something different for the release of these promo cards. Coming this September 3, the Hall of Legends shop will open, and the countdown for the two new cards will begin. They will be purchasable starting September 10, for up to 2 weeks. Then, a 2 week countdown for 2 new cards will begin. After the countdown, there will again be 2 weeks to buy the cards. This 2 weeks preparation, and 2 weeks purchasing time will continue for 3 more times afterwards. So we will have 5 months for the promo event, and 5 separate pairs to buy. It is important to note that similar to previous promo cards, these won't be available in packs or future events. Once these cards are rotated out of the store, one can only purchase them from other players. Additionally, each rotation will have 1 Rare and 1 Legendary card; so we'll have 5 new rare and legendary cards after this event is over.

Elanor Bravefoot

The first card is Elanor Bravefoot. It is a 0 cost legendary monster, and at max level has the Weary, Blasphemy of Uul, and Strengthen abilities. Yep, that's a new ability. With the recent Rebellion SB cards having new abilities as well, the team is really pumping out new abilities. The stats are really good at max level, and the Strengthen makes it really strong. A lot of people will take a 0 cost Strengthen all the time.

The Blasphemy of Uul is interesting though. It gives Elanor +1 permanent range attack for each allied 0 mana card from the CL set; yep, CL set. Using a dual element summoner, it can get +2 from the fiends. A 0 mana 4 range attack monster with strengthen sounds a bit broken in low mana battles. Some might wonder that since it is a Rebellion card, the ability will be useless in modern once CL rotates out. That is a big drawback, and I've seen some comments from the team that they can just change the tooltip in the future. I'm guessing the reason for this interesting description is because they will be releasing other 0 cost promo cards this event, and/or other monsters with this ability, and including Rebellion cards can make them too OP.

Sanctus Vicar

The second card is Sanctus Vicar. It is a 6 cost dual element rare monster. At max level it has Cleanse Rearguard, Cleans, and Reflection Shield abilities. The Cleanse Rearguard is the long awaited/requested backline cleanse. Since it has both types of cleanse, I'm guessing this will be a must own and a staple in a lot of support teams. Imagining this next to taunt monsters is a nightmare. It doesn't take blast damage, and it can cleanse afflictions. I can already see the increase in Lily and taunt teams. I guess I should just be thankful that it isn't a Life or Earth monster. Just thinking how difficult it is already to kill Iziar with its Void or Mycelic Slipspawn with its Forcefield, makes me shiver at the thought.

Cost

For the cost, Elanor will be priced at 50k DEC for 1 BCX, while Sanctus will be 3k DEC for 1 BCX. Considering that a rebellion legendary card is in the range of 5600 [Zebajin] to 50k [Venka] DEC, I'm surprised Elanor is that expensive. Sanctus is shaping up to be the highest cost rebellion rare card, with a current range of 207 - 2.5k DEC for rebellion rare cards. I guess the team is really making sure that these cards are scarce.

Personally, I think Elanor is mostly for the whales since it needs other legendary cards [CL Fiends] to activate one of its ability. Sanctus on the other hand is pretty much a must own, even at just level 4 which is perfect for silver level. The reflection shield is good, but I don't know if it is worth it for the price of the card. I'm guessing only the champ leaderboard players will go for it. I think the cards are a bit overpriced and I might not be able to afford them. I'm just hoping the cards are OP and people feel FOMO and buy them so that the promo event becomes a success.

Voucher Shop

Apart from the promo event, there will also be a new voucher shop. Because of a recent initiative to rework vouchers, the team came up with the following changes. Vouchers can no longer be used to buy energy, and they won't give a discount to Rebellion booster packs. So to give a use case for these vouchers, a voucher shop will be available starting September 3.

Mana Warden

Mana Warden is the new card purchasable in the new vouchers shop. It is a 4 cost dual element monster. At max level it gets the Shield Ward, Impede, and Pierce abilities. Yep, another new ability. The Shield Ward grants the Shield ability to the monster in front of it. The ideal targets are Flank monsters and taunt monsters.

The Mana Warden costs 30 vouchers per 1 BCX. I don't know if the cards in the voucher shop will rotate, but I hope not. Since I only have a few amounts of vouchers, I want to make sure I will be purchasing a card that I will use a lot. I can see Mana Warden work well with Drybone Magaladon and Janni Rebel, but I don't use those cards much. But I might buy it because it works well with Iziar. Iziar having both Void and Shield will make it pretty difficult to kill.

That is it for my first impressions on the new promo and voucher cards. What are your thoughts on them? Are you going to buy them? Don't hesitate to let me know what you think, and if you have suggestions for improvement.
