Documenting my Splinterlands Knowledge - Rebellion Reward Cards are here

Hello there.

The time has finally arrived. The long awaited rotation of the reward cards happened after this recent EOS. The old CL Soul Bound reward cards can no longer be purchased from the Glint shop and it has been replaced by the new Rebellion Soul Bound reward cards. For those that want to, they can now unbound their CL SB reward cards. After they have been unbound they can be rented out, sold, or used in land.

I'll probably post a review about the new cards, but for now, I'll be sharing my strategy going into this change. As soon as I heard that last season will be the last for CL reward cards, I looked at my cards and formulated a plan. My main priority were the SB summoners. The monster level that I can use will be limited by them, so they should definitely be a priority. I was able to get them to level 5, but it was looking difficult to go for higher levels. I just didn't have enough time left.

After that I just upgraded all my SB monsters to the next level that they can go. The most I got was level 7 for the commons, which are one level over the max my SB summoners can use. If I'm going to play in Wild league eventually, I might get higher level summoners eventually. Now for the extras left, I just burned all of them for Glint. There was an option of unbinding them, but I didn't have enough DEC to do so. I also considered keeping them, and buying what I lack for the next level from the market. The problem with that strategy is that CL is going to rotate out of Modern next. I don't know when, but if I'm going to continue playing in Modern, then it would be unwise to spend on cards that will be rotating next anyways. The other reason for my decision of burning them, was that the Rebellion SB cards are pretty OP. Sure there are strong cards in the CL SB like Drybone Barbarian and the summoners, but I don't want to miss out on the Rebellion OP cards as well. If I want to be competitive, I need to have the new cards too.

That is why the once the new cards are available, the next decision to make was how to make use of the Glint that I have. After burning my extra SB cards, I was left with 80k glint. I usually buy the Major Chests, but since they increased the chest cost, I can only buy a few of it. Since I wanted to get a copy of each cards, I decided to max out the Minor Chest first. I turned off the potions and just let it rip. I was able to get at least a copy of all the common, with just missing one from the rare [Meriput Slinger]. With my remaining 20k glint, I purchased the Major Chests. This time, I was able to complete my common and rare Rebellion SB cards. Unfortunately I didn't get a single copy of Epic or Legendary from all that.

Because of my bad luck with the Ultimate Chest, I probably won't buy that ever. Since I now have at least a copy of each common and rare card, I'll probably go back to the Major Chests. The big reason why I wanted at least a copy is because of the Kryptogamers Novice tournament. They limit it to just Rebellion cards, so getting these cards can greatly help me win more battles. For Ranked, I was able to level a few Regular Foils to 2, while I got a few GF cards. Looking at the cards that I got, I am already thinking of the ones that I can use in my usual strategies. Here are a few that stand out early on [I'll just give a quick first impression, but I'll post an in depth review in the future.]:

This is good for poison rulesets, and especially when it's during little league.

More option for Fire magic team. Works well with Jacek

image.png

Can be good with Grum and Krash Wanderford, or any melee because of Flank.

image.png

Good stats for no magic battles partnered with Possibilus.

image.png

Another good card with Possibilus. Especially good in melee only rulesets.

image.png

A cheap magic monster for Earth is always nice. The Reflection Shield with Slipspawn in Blast rulesets is pretty nice.

image.png

Oh look, another 3 mana 2 damage backline attacker for Death. They have a really cheap sneak/opportunity team now.

image.png

Another low level immunity monster. Can be good in poison ruleset.

To answer all those melee sneak/opportunity monsters, a cheap demoralize monster. This together with Disintegrator [and even a leveled up Harklaw] can counter a lot of melee teams.

In my previous post showing the OP cards in this reward cards set, I noticed that a lot of them were Epic monsters. In the discord, when someone asked what the best strategy is for glint usage, some mentioned just buying the epic draws. A lot of them have the new debilitation ability, but have insane stats. Since I got all common and rare copies, I might go for that strategy next.

That is it for my initial experience and impressions on the new Rebellion reward cards. How have your experience been? Don't hesitate to let me know what you think, and if you have suggestions for improvement.

The new Reward cards are really great, especially the common and rare ones. Just had my first win with Slade and the Skink - they're both really good. In total, a great addition without disturbing the balance.

Just posted about my first win, if it's okay to post that here :-)

Yeah, I'm liking the common and rare ones too. I am testing them out in the Kryptogamers tournament and they're performing well as well. As for disturbing the balance, I have seen a lot of posts in the SPL discord how a lot of the Epic cards are too OP.

I'll check your post out.

I'll give a further look into the Epics then. Until now, they haven't convinced me at all. Thanks for the hint!

The ones with debilitations have insane stats. The battles can be over before the negative effects really hurt the team. Additionally, they are pretty much the king in Back to Basics ruleset, with a few of them being OP in little league.
