A few days ago my friend @queenstarr sent me some DEC at Splinterlands. She's such a great friend and a wonderful person. When I asked her what was this for, because I know I didn't do anything to deserve such a great gift, she told me it was her way of spreading the love and joy of the humanity and that I can do whatever I want with it.
And what better way to spread the love then to give away to others. β€οΈ
That's why I decided that this week I'm going to give away 10,000 DEC to 10 lucky winners (1k each - because why make one person very happy when I can make 10 people fairly happy).
~~ π° WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH 1,000 DEC π° ~~
I remember when I first started playing Splinterlands 1,000 DEC seemed like an unachievable goal. I was playing in bronze league, earning almost nothing and all that I earned I spent on rentals.
Any card I could win, any extra DEC someone gifted me was put back into the game, building up my account. That's why I imagined this giveaway like small help to new players or players with very limited budget.
Before I started writing this post I went and investigated what can you do with 1,000 DEC in world of Splinterlands these days.
~ π BUY CARDS π ~
You can buy some cards, of course, so let's start with that. Summoners are most important cards in your deck, because they determine what type (splinter) of cards you can play and what can their maximum level be. These are the Summoners you can buy on this day for 1,000 DEC (or a couple DEC more):
I would focus on Chaos Legion cards, if you are a new player, since older sets will soon go out of Modern format and be replaced with new Rebellion set. That leaves us with General Sloan (Life splinter) and Tarsa (Fire splinter), obviously the least favorite choice of summoners among today's players, but nevertheless quite useful ones. For example I play with Tarsa on regular basis because I simply love Fire splinter and their melee monsters.
With 300-400 DEC more you could get Thaddius Brood (Death splinter) or Obsidian (Earth splinter - one of the most popular choices). Kelya Frendul (Water splinter - most popular Chaos League summoner) is whole other price level with price at almost 2,000 DEC.
There are plenty of Monster cards that can be bought for 1,000 DEC, but you don't want to buy just one copy, at least not if you want to be competitive and move out of Novice or Bronze 3 league.
Easiest way to see how much it would cost you to buy enough copies of a card to get it to a certain level is to use Peakmonsters (you can do it through the game interface, of course, it would just take you a bit longer) and its "Bulk Buy" feature. This is how it looks like when you pick one of the cheapest common cards and set it for level 3 (highest level for common card in Bronze league):
You can see that to get this card to level 3 we need to buy 14 BCX (copies) of that card and combine them to get to level 3. This tool found 10 cards (because some of them were already combined) that will get us there.
As you can see, this would cost around 85 DEC. Now do the math how many cards you can buy like this and fill your deck a bit.
~ π€ RENT CARDS π€ ~
You don't have to buy cards, you can always rent them. In the long run it's not really profitable, but in short term it can turn out to be a good thing. Luckily for you guys, Peakmonsters introduced a feature called "Decks" where you can find various decks of cards put together for you to rent (or buy). You don't have to pick cards and levels one by one (like I had to when I started playing) but you find a deck you like and rent it by a click of a mouse.
Now, what can we rent for 1,000 DEC? Maybe this will help you decide:
This two decks are all cards of Chaos Legion edition and it would cost 170 DEC per day for you to rent bronze level deck, or 908 DEC per day to rent silver level deck. That's almost a full week or rentals for Bronze league.
Of course, you don't need to rent ALL Chaos Legion cards in order to be competitive, you can reduce that to 100 DEC, or even less, so you will be able to play for maybe whole season with this 1,000 DEC.
~ π€ BUY POTIONS AND STONES π€ ~
In Splinterlands there are plenty of other items except cards that can be bought with DEC, potions and stones being one of them (others cost much more then 1k DEC, so I won't mention them here).
Potions are used when opening packs, they increase your chance of getting Legendary cards, and the chance of your cards being Gold Foiled. Legendary Potions double the chance of getting a Legendary card whenever a card is generated. Alchemy Potions double the chance of getting a Gold Foil card whenever a card is generated. One potion is used for each card in a pack (that's 5 potions each per pack).
As you can see you can buy 26 Legendary Potions (38 DEC per charge) or 21 Alchemy Potions (47.5 DEC per charge) with 1,000 DEC. If you combine those two you should get enough potions for at least 2 packs.
Stones are as the same as potions but are only used when opening Gladius Cases. Blood Stones double the chance of getting a Gladiator Legendary card whenever a card is generated. Power Stones double the chance of getting a Gladiator Gold Foil card whenever a card is generated. One stone is used for each card in a case (that's 5 stones each per case).
You have to be in a guild in order to buy stones or to open Gladius Cases. Your guild needs to have Store level 2 to be able to buy Gladius Cases, level 6 to be able to buy Blood Stones and level 8 to be able to buy Power Stones.
As you can see we can buy 7 Blood Stones or 7 Power Stones for 1,000 DEC at price of 142.5 DEC per charge. If we combine that we don't even have enough stones for 1 whole Gladius Case.
