Battle in Earthquake Ruleset Without Flying Unit for Beginner

in Splinterlands2 months ago

Hello all, today I want to discuss about Strategy to battle in the Earthquake Ruleset, without using unit who have Flying ability :

Earthquake IconDescription
Non-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the start of the round start at round 2.

I play with my Scholar account with only a limited card (Chaos Legion, reward card, and rent several old cards like Doctor Blight, Arkemis The Bear, Dumacke Exile, etc.), I don't have summoner with dual tactics. So this strategy may only suit players that rent/have cheap card. I play in Modern format Diamond/Champ League.

Several Ability Beside Flying that Helpfull in this ruleset

AbilityDescription
Protect, all friendly units gain +2 Armor
Heal, restores a portion of the Monster's health each round. Restores 1/3 of the max health, rounded down.
Tank Heal, restores a portion of the Monster in the first position's health each round. Restores 1/3 of the max health, rounded up
Triage, Heals the friendly back-line Monster that has taken the most damage. Heal is max health divided by 3, rounded down. Minimum is 2.
Martyr, when this monster dies, adjacent Monsters get +1 to all stats
Shield, reduced damage from melee and ranged attacks. Attack damage gets halved (rounded up).
Life Leech, monster's health increases each time it damages an enemy monster's health in proportion to the damage dealt
Scavenger, gains 1 max health each time any monster dies
Strengthen, all friendly monsters have increased Health by 1.

We will discuss a bit about the ruleset above :

  • Protect, will help temporarily disable the damage from Earthquake, every time the Earthquake hits the armor it will decrease by 2. But even if it only has 1 armor and gets damage from an earthquake by 2 damage, health will not decrease. Example of the unit who have Protect ability :
    • Arkemis The Bear (Neutral Element),
    • Ferox Defender (Fire element),
    • Venari Wavesmith (Water element),
    • Queen Mycelia (Earth element)
  • Heal (Heal, Tank Heal, and Triage) This will help to prolong the life of our unit which the health got damaged from the Earthquake.
  • The Martyr unit in this ruleset will die eventually, so we must make sure it will help the unit adjacent to this unit, usually bring the unit who have Heal ability or high damage and health close to this Martyr unit.
  • Shield ability, because Earthquake is considered as melee damage, this ability will decrease the damage of Earthquake ruleset from 2 become 1.
  • Life Leech and Scavenger work like the Heal ability the difference is uses damage and the life of another unit to increase the health of the unit.
  • Strengthen ability, will help but not as good as the other ability above. Besides this ability, there was a summoner who gave buff health like Possibilus the Wise (water element), Pembrook Nymph (Water element), Lux Vega, Eternal Tofu, etc,

Battle Example

The battle Link., in this battle, both players do not bring any unit with the Flying ability, because in the Fire element modern format, I think only have 2 Flying monsters Flame Mephit (unit) & Risqruel Drath (summoner), and this monster at max level is expensive to rent and buy so not many players bring it :

In this battle to fight the effects of Earthquake, the opponent uses Protect, Strengthen, and Scavenger while we use Protect, Martyr, Strengthen, Scavenger abilities, and our summoner gives +1 armor and health.
Both formations have advantages, as you can see our melee and range units have a hard time hitting the enemy due to the enemy's higher speed. But in the end, our armor and Martyr ability save our Doctor Blight, when facing the enemy Doctor Blight the health and damage are higher than the enemy :

Conclusion

This is a hard battle the enemy already knows what we know, I think the enemy chose to have higher speed maybe because he doesn't have Lux Vega summoner, or he/she already predicted that we would use many range units because usually, magic units have low HP easy to die in the Earthquake ruleset. Not all magic units are like that, but the Fire element does not have a magic unit with high damage, health, and armor.

Even though we already know the basics/how to deal with damage from the Earthquake ruleset, we also need to know the abilities of each unit in each available element, to get a greater chance of winning, this can only be obtained by fighting continuously and continuing to learn, because the Splinterlands developer always updates the game with patches, rulesets, abilities and new units, which can change the way we play.

Great battle, this type of rule is very complicated because of the reduction of life by the earthquake, but having these key points you can achieve victory.
