Today I will discuss how to handle battle in the Wands Out ruleset (only units with magic attacks can be used) especially in low mana battles when Earth element can't be used
Note:
I'd play using my scholar account bltzr-wizard-710, usually in Diamond League, sometimes in Champion league if I can reach it, my card is not powerful I only have Chaos Legion, Reward Card, and11 old cards I rent like, Doctor Blight, Ash Mirage, Dumacke Exile, etc. This strategy may only work for enemies with limited cards.
Strategy for Battle in Wands Out Ruleset
Actually not really strategy but the best summoner to use is in the Earth element the "Immortalist" :
By using this summoner all magic attack damage will be cut by half (rounded up), except attack 1 which deals 0 damage, and the mana cost is 6.
If we can't use the Earth element then we have 2 choices:
- Using Life element who have Grandmaster Rathe and Iziar, and have have heal Djinn Renova. With this summoner, all magic attacks need to destroy the armor first before can decrease the health. Iziar has the same ability as Immortalis can decrease the magic damage by half and has Martyr ability (every time this unit dies another unit adjacent to this unit will increase all basic stats by 1, and this Iziar has Taunt ability who can force the enemy unit if they can will attack this unit. The Adelade Brightwing unit can restore the armor and can double the effect of the Martyr ability from Iziar by resurrecting Iziar once it dies. This is the core unit of this strategy :
For Tanker, you can choose units like Arkemis the Bear, Pelacor Bandit, Drybone Barbarian, Imperial Knight, etc. Besides the tanker you can choose 1 other unit, you can choose any unit you like Runeslinger, Pelacor Arbalest, etc. This strategy has 1 drawback it needs high mana. If we have a low mana battle the best choice i think is the next element. - The Death element will be the best choice for battle in low mana, The summoner have 4 mana cost and can decrease the magic damage and enemy health :
Usually, we will depend on the Poison, Life Leech (every time it attacks will increase the health by half to the damage), and Scavenger abilities (every time any unit die will increase the health of this unit by 1)from this unit :
If we still have mana left we can combine it with another unit that has Redemption (if the unit dies it will give 1 damage to all enemy units, and Stunt ability (50% chance to stun the enemy every attack, if the enemy got Stun will skip next turn). Usually, we will use this unit :
There are 2 other elements we can use besides the element above, which are the Water (Djinn Oshannus unit) and Dragon elements (Void Dragon unit).
Using this element depends on the tanker who has Void ability and can evade magic. The longer the tanker life the chance to win increases. But I think it is more suitable in the middle to high mana cause it needs other unit support to give buff and debuff like Swiftness, Heal, Blind, and Slow, If we can kill the tanker fast then the unit behind it easy to kill.
Battle Example
In this Battle Example although have middle mana cost it have a Little League ruleset (only can use unit and summoner which that cost 4 or less mana cost), so it's still like fighting in the low mana battle.
In this battle, we can see The Redemption ability plays an important role here because the health of each unit has been reduced by the respective summoner by 1, and Doctor Blight also reduces the health of each unit by reducing 2 health and only the unit with the small mana that can be carried, it causes Redemption to easily kill many enemies at once. Scavenger and Life Leech also help to survive, especially Scavenger because many units die so the additional health from Doctor Blight is good enough. Stun and Poison abilities also help.
Conclusion
I think Death will be best to use at the battle at 20 or below mana cost Focus on the use of the Poison unit first and if have mana left we can use another unit above.
In the low mana battle, I think it can defeat Immortalist who already costs 6 mana for the summoner.
The only concern is Dragon combined with Water element this 2 unit combo is OP :
Anasth Sootsaver can heal the Void Dragon and Cleanse the negative status including poison from it. The good news is in Diamond League not many players bring Anasth yet. Because the Anasth is expensive to buy and rent.
