How to Outsmart Card Spammers in Splinterlands

in Splinterlands13 days ago

Many new cards appear in Splinterlands that can be obtained by buying them or getting them from airdrops. Some of these cards are so strong that if we use them and we are not ready, we will most likely lose them. Many players who have these cards use them repeatedly (card spam) to win. In this post, we will discuss how to deal with Venka the Vile using old cards that we can get cheaply. We will also discuss a bit how to deal with other new powerful units that are often used by players who have a large capital.

Note:
Splinterlands is a fairly balanced game, so players with small capital and cheap cards can still enjoy victory and players who have large capital are more relaxed enjoying this game and have a greater chance of achieving a higher rating and getting bigger rewards.

Disclaimer :
This discussion may only suit someone with limited cards who can't rent or buy expensive/strong cards. I only have a standard card in my scholar account, Chaos Legion card or older, and I rent several cheap cards like Arkemis the Bear, Doctor Blight, etc. I battle in the Diamond League.

Venka the vile Stats and Ability

AbilityDescription
Charge ability, can attack the enemy on the first position from any position with melee attack.
Piercing ability, If melee or ranged attack damage is in excess of the target's Armor, the remainder will damage the target's Health.
Oppress ability, does double damage when attacking an enemy that has no attacks.
Trample ability, when a unit with Trample hits and kills its target, it will perform another attack on the next unit on the enemy Team.

The Battle

The battle link and the ruleset in the battle :

RulesetDescription
Aimless ruleset, Every range and magic unit will have Scattershoot ability, Scattershoot ability make all range and magic unit attack random unit.
Might Makes Right ability, you can only use the unit with 3 or more damage.

The illustration is not from a real battle.

Venka the Vile is a unit that we must check when looking at the battle history, this unit with only 7 mana has a very large attack and is difficult to avoid because of its high speed of 7, and dangerous because have Piercing and Trample ability.
After checking the battle history I found the enemy used Venka twice in the battle I decided to counter it with Djinn Oshannus because it has Forcefield ability if the enemy with 5 or more damage attacks this unit the damage will become 1.

Conclusion

The strategy did not work perfectly because I thought the enemy would use a lot of range and magic units to take full advantage of the Aimless ruleset this made me not bring a healer for Djinn Oshannus, but it turned out that the enemy focused on attacking Djinn Oshannus by using a lot of melee units, . Because we used the Lily Shieldpaw summoner, only melee attacks could definitely hit our unit in the first position. Even so, Djinn Oshannus survived until the 2nd round because many enemy attacks were missed and 2 units on the enemy side had damage of 5 or more which when hitting Djinn Oshannus only gave damage of 1. This battle was not easy but we managed to win this battle with Fatigue.

Tips :
Always check the battle history, For his stats and ability, 7 mana cost is low, so beware if there is enough mana and a suitable ruleset the enemy may use it every time. Many tankers like Baakjira and Pelacor Conjurer (can't use it in this battle because needs 3 or more damage) will easily be killed by it because when attacking the unit that can't attack it will do double damage. Only units that have Forcefield/Shield/Retaliate ability may have a chance.

Other new units that are frequently used are:

  • Eternal Tofu, this summoner is like a combination of old summoners that can no longer be used, namely Mylor and Lorna, with a higher cost of 7 and stronger abilities/buff, can be used in Earth and Life elements. It is difficult to fight this summoner using melee units because of the Thorn ability. If the enemy uses the Grimbaldun tanker, it can only be fought using the Jacek summoner from the fire element who has the Scattershoot ability. Although difficult to fight, I usually use a lot of range units when I meet players who spam this summoner. Many people use this unit, especially in Diamond 1 and Champion league. This is My Battle against Eternal Tofu I can win this battle because of Armored Up ruleset and he doesn't use Divine Shield ability.
  • Grimbaldun Smith this tanker unit hard to kill by a player like me who only bring the cheap card. As I said before when I see Grimbaldun spammer I like to use Jacek summoner for a Scattershoot ability, or using the unit with a Scattershoot ability like Chaos Dragon.
  • Mantaroth, I like to counter it using unit with Giant killer ability (will do double damage if attacking unit whos has 10 or mana cost). Many unit have Giant Killer ability like Desert Dragon, Djinn Muirat, Legionnaire Alvar, Runic Skyclaw, Chaos Knight, Cabalist, Mycelic Infantry, Djinn inferni, Suidae Shaman, Grum Flameblade, Raa. But I like to use Desert Dragon to counter Mantaroth because it have Retaliate ability (50% chance will attack back if attacked).
