Hello all, this week I want to show you my new strategy, After trying it for 1-2 weeks, the win rate I got was quite good. This is not a new unit but the first Soulbound reward card, it's just that I only started using it recently. This strategy may only be suitable for beginners who have limited cards or resources and want additional formations to win.
The core formation of this strategy uses Immortalis summoner and 2 main units, namely:
- Ava the Undaunted :

 | Weapons Training ability, adjacent monsters gain this unit's attack if they have no attacks themselves. |
 | Shatter ability, target's armor is destroyed when hit by an attack from unit with Shatter. |
 | Close Range ability, Can perform ranged attacks from the first position. |
 | Oppress ability, does double damage when attacking an enemy that has no attacks. |
- Thane Newsong :
| Ability | Description |
|---|---|
 | Inspire ability, gives all friendly unit +1 Melee attack. |
 | Strengthen, all friendly unit's have increased health. |
 | Swiftness ability, All friendly units have increased Speed by 1. |
 | Headwinds ability, reduces the ranged attack of all enemy units. |
Note : I play with my Scholar account with only a limited card (Chaos Legion, reward card, and rent several old cards like Doctor Blight, Arkemis The Bear, Dumacke Exile, etc.). I play in Modern format Diamond/Champ League.
The Battle Discussion
I give you several battle examples so you can see how good the formation is:
- Battle 1, It against summoner Eternal Tofu, and unit (Mantaroth and Venka the Vile) which all is a very strong unit. Luckily because of the ruleset Deflection Field the Mantaroth Blast attack not working. Our Mycelic Slipspawn using Forcefield ability reduces Venka's attack to 1. Our Scavo Hireling keeps repairing the armor of our Mycelic Slipspawn.
In this first battle, with the formation we use, we can get higher speed than the enemy, the attack range is reduced by 1, and there is also the Repair ability from Scavo which restores the armor from Mycelic Infantry.
Battle 2, In this second battle, the power of this formation begins to be seen, with the Immortalist summoner makes all our units have the Void ability which makes magic damage reduced by half plus the Headwinds ability from Thane Newsong which makes damage from enemy attack units consisting of range and magic are reduced a lot.
- Battle 3, Here we don't bring the Heal units that are usually brought when using summoners and this formation, we focus on the combination of Ava and Thane. Here we get victory with a higher speed, and the enemy doesn't seem to expect that in the Weak Magic ruleset we use the Immortalist summoner which allows all units to destroy the enemy unit's armor in 1 attack, with 1 attack we destroy the armor from the enemy tanker Dumacke Orc.
- Battle 4,
After seeing the Immortalist battle with various enemy units that used different formations, in this battle, we fought enemy units that used the old formation/Line Up, I used to always use similar formation before, 1 tanker in first position, 1 tanker with **Taunt ** ability in the back position, Units with healing abilities that can heal units in the first and last positions. Here we only bring a healer to heal Mycelic Slipspawn in the back position. Even though the enemy brings a healer to restore the health of the unit in the 1st position, the speed and damage of our combined range units are higher than the enemy. The enemy doesn't have many opportunities to attack/restore their health.
Conclusion
This formation with summoner Immortalis is strong because :
- Void ability from Immortalis summoner making magic damage become half and Thane Newsong decrease range damage by 1.
- Mycelic Infantry is our tanker in the 1st position due to having Shield ability (Decrease range and melee damage by half) this unit is strong against any attack.
- Mycelic Slipspawn unit with Taunt ability who has Forcefield ability, you can see how good this unit is in battle number 1.
- Ava the Undaunted who can give Thane Newsong and other unit range attack.
- More speed due to having Mycelic Slipspawn who has Slow ability and Thane, Swiftness ability. If you can use Scavo Hireling then the speed becomes higher in battle number 3 the enemy does not have many chances to attack we already kill it first.
I still have to do more research to determine when to bring a healer or not and focus on damaging the enemy. Also, try it in various rulesets to better know when to use this formation. But so far this formation already gives a good win rate, at least until today.
