Hello everyone, today I will make a post about the new reward Card Mar Toren Trader, Common unit from Water element
Disclaimer :
This discussion may only suit someone with limited cards who can't rent or buy expensive/strong cards. I only have a standard card in my scholar account, Chaos Legion card or older, and I rent several cheap cards like Arkemis the Bear, Doctor Blight, etc. I battle in the Diamond League.
Mar Torent Trader Ability
| Ability | Description |
|---|---|
 | Headwinds, reduces the ranged attack of all enemy unit by -1. |
 | Heal, restores a portion of the unit health each round, restores 1/3 of the max health, rounded down. |
Note :
The ability and stats above will show all at level 10/max level, I only have this unit at level 7, it does not use all the potential this card has, especially that Heal ability, I battle in Diamond League.
Best Ruleset to Use This Card

 | Going the Distances, you can only summon units with ranged attacks (except several dual attack unit).. This ruleset guarantees that your enemy will only use ranged attack so the Mar Toren Headwinds will decrease much damage. |
Besides the ruleset above there was another ruleset but we need at least two of that ruleset to make sure the enemy will bring many range units like :

 | Counterspell, all units have Magic Reflect (returns 50% of magic damage to attacker, rounded up).. |

For example, Fog of War + Lost Magic, or Keep Your Distance + Counterspell, this combination ruleset increases the probability the enemy will use many range attacks, there were several other rulesets beside it, but I will not discuss all,
The Battle Using this card
Battle using Mar Toren. , I'm using BLTZ-WIZARD-710, battle in the Diamond league :
The ruleset beside Going the Distance which I already discussed above :
 | Target Practice, all ranged and magic attack units have the Snipe ability (will attack range/magic unit not in the first position). |
 | Taking Sides neutral Monsters may not be used in battles. |
In this battle, we can see all of the enemy range units decrease by 1 because of the Mar Toren Headwinds, all enemy units from positions 2-6 that can attack are reduced by 1 so we have 5 less damage each round. I don't know why the enemy brings Razorhound level 1, not a stronger creature, this battle shows how powerful the Headwinds ability is in this ruleset.
Conclusion
This unit is low mana cost and damage, so more suitable in the low mana battle, maybe 25 or below, there was another popular unit with Headwinds in the Fire element (Ash Mirage) and Death element (Queen of Crows) but we can't use it in this battle. Water has 2 other units with Headwinds :
Both can't be used in this battle Endura to high mana and Torrent Fiend is a melee unit.
The main advantage of Mar Torrent is that it has low mana cost, all units that can attack and have Headwinds have large mana cost. I know there is another great unit that has a rather low mana cost Gallicus from Life element with 4 mana cost but I have never met anyone who uses this unit:
For Torrent Fiend, even though it has zero mana cost, this unit is usually only used if there are still slots remaining and you can't add more units because run out of mana. It has low damage, it must be in the first position so it can attack and easily die if attacked.
