Splinterlands Got Expensive... So I Started RENTING out my valuable cards!

Yo!!

Splinterlands has experienced TREMENDOUS success in the last month. I was telling all my friends during May and June how exciting the game was, but they didn't see it. They told me, "Why would I play a game where you only earn a penny per win?"

Well, a penny per win isn't the story anymore. I was making $5-10 per day during the season when Splinterlands first really popped and went parabolic.

Many of my friends started joining the game. Very exciting! I even started a little guild to onboard people -- we already have 2% DEC boosts :-)

Game More Expensive, Harder to Compete!

The one downside of Splinterlands' success is that it is now very expensive, in fact unaffordable for me personally, to compete. Even in Bronze League, I am no longer able to afford the rentals that made me competitive at high levels. I mean, I could afford it, but it would lose me money.

There was a time when rentals were soooo cheap, the first few months of rentals were amazing. I could not believe how affordable everything was. It was a renter's market for sure.

With huge hype and parabolic growth, things have changed. Now renting kinda sucks unless you have deep pockets or don't worry about earning a profit. It is what it is. The game is well worth it, its still super fun, but on a profit level renting to grind rewards is meh.

So, what to do? Luckily even by my pleb standards, my account has accrued some decent value. Hive blockchain in general is a fantastic value generator for me, always providing fair rewards for my efforts :-). How much is my account worth right now on Splinterlands?

Over A THOUSAND DOLLARS!!

Look, to me, that's incredible. I know we all have our own financial levels, to me having put $14 into this game initially (summoner spellbook + 2 untamed booster packs), ending up with $1000 is crazy.

Rentals are Off to a Good Start

Anyway -- let's cut to the punchline. I rented out all of my cards where the rental floor was above 1 DEC per day. I didn't feel like it was worth the time to list a bunch of commons at 0.1 DEC among hundreds of other listings, so I skipped those.

So far here are the cards I have rented out so far:

Sorry for cutting off the bottom on the second image... it's a lot of cards :-P

Yeah so that's 23 cards, including a handful of gold foils (I bought these with DEC earnings when prices were cheap, just because I liked the way they looked) -- and so far I seem to earning about 700-1000 DEC per day from the rental earnings.

Not bad! What's the current DEC price?

So if we go a bit conservative on the estimates, let's say 800 DEC per day of rental income, with a 0.007 DEC price, that adds up to $5.60 of USD income per day, all passive income.

I'm earning enough to pay for lunch every day without doing anything!!

My mind is pumping. I think back to all the books I read over the last 5 years -- Rich Dad Poor Dad, Warren Buffet's stockholder letters, Tony Robbins' massive financial advice book, and so many more. I know what this is. I HAVE REVENUE BEARING ASSETS!! I have assets which I can own, hold on to, and generate passive income from.

This is how we DO IT.

Yeah, renting out my Splinterlands cards has me pogged up. I am planning on stacking DEC for a while -- it's good for my airdrop percentage and I have no need to rush to spend it.

Have you tried to rent out any of your valuable Splinterlands cards? How's it going?

I joined a few weeks ago and can say the same thing - it got way more competitive and expensive to get in. However, if you stake SPS, you can claim the proceeds, exchange them to BUSD on Metamask and buy credits. That way you can rent cards using SPS that you get from staking and airdrops. Worth doing if SPS is in a higher price range.

That's a good idea thanks for the tip -- I am staking every single SPS for sure

I'm still using my best cards to battle with, but I am renting out a few cards that are duplicates or I never use.

Makes sense, i might do that for a while after the next expansion comes out.
