Splinterland's: Cards that can be earned only.
If you thought that I was talking about the soulbound cards that are earned as rewards for battling then your guess is incorrect because, after one point of time, the game allows to unbind the card at later stage, by paying DEC. Once these cards got unbound then these cards can be transferred to the another player and can be sold in the market. Though soulbond rewards cards are "earned" but once they got unbound they cannot be classified as earned cards because now this card may be acquired by the account instead of getting earned by rewards.

But Gladius cards are still the true cards as there are still no provisions for unlocking/unbinding them. These cards are obtained from Gladius packs and one needs "Merits" to buy the Gladius pack. In current scenario, player get Merits by playing brawls, or from the rewards chests, or directly converting Glint into Merit. All three actions mentioned required the player to play as Glint is also earned by playing ranked battles. So today I decided to enhance my "earned" card holdings and purchased 10 Gladius packs from the Guild store. 10 Gladius pack also equivalent to 50 Gladius cards as 1 pack is equivalent to 5 cards.
There are 2 ways to open the packs, either I can go pack one by one, or I can use option of "open multiple" and open all 10 packs at once. I decided to open all 10 packs at once and while opening these packs, I did not used Bloodstone and Powerstones and unfortunately I did not received any Gold foil or legendary cards in my pack opening.

This is how my pack opening look like and afterwards I decided to check on the individual cards if any of them can be upgraded as I added 50 Gladius cards on my collection. I am able to upgrade my 2 cards and one of the card is "Alva the crusher" which I have now successfully upgraded to level 5.

I wish, I had earned the epic cards like Quora Townshead to level up it , or some good legendary card but all is luck here. I still did not received a single copy of the legendary card Flagulon Reine and Jini Guise card till now, so these 2 cards are missing from my collection. Hopefully may I get these cards also one day to at least complete my minimum level of Gladius Cards set, maxing them really look like a distant dream.

I haven't maxed out any cards even though I show up to most brawls. It takes a long time to max out cards. I highly suggest joining a guild and doing brawls if you want merits.
I took part in last brawl and only 2 players from entire guild played. it give me just 375 MERITS and 2.9 SPS. Really hard to get Gladius cards.
