I have recently joined a new guild and it's Pizza 2 The Deep Dish!
And I just completed the 2nd brawl with them!
- Fun In The Discord Chats
Compared to my previous guild, I appreciated the interaction in the Discord chats within the Pizza guilds. During the preparation phase, there's a lot of information sharing and discussion on who to fill each fray. During the brawls, there were reminders to members to complete their brawl battles. And after the brawls, there were celebratory messages and some members (including me) would write about our experience in the brawls. Aside from brawls, I thought the donations were also very well organised and tabulated, with lucky draws to incentivise donors as well.
- Choosing The Same (Difficult) Brawl
The fray slots were snatched up pretty fast and once again, I found myself left with this "best" choice as the rest of the slots were Gold Foil frays, which would be an instant suicide for me. So I went with the same fray as the previous one, i.e. Chaos 5/4/3/2 (Fray 10).
After all, I thought it wouldn't be too challenging since I managed to win 3 out of 6 battles in the last brawl. But this time, I must admit that I was in for a nasty shock as my Level 1 cards were overpowered in all areas by the high levelled cards. Even my Gladius cards couldn't help much, as my opponents also had them too.
- We Got 4th!
So for the final result, we finished 4th out of 10 guilds and got 554 Merits, which was a great result in my view and our teamwork definitely showed. We actually won more than half of our battles. If all goes well, I could be getting my 3rd Gladius case after the next brawl, so fingers crossed for that.
Interestingly, we had the same number of wins/losses and points as the 3rd placed guild. Now I am wondering why we are placed 4th?
On a deeper look...
How are tie-breakers actually decided? Hmm.
Individually, I had 5 fights this time in the same tough fray but I only sneaked out 1 win, finishing 11th within the guild. Looks like my beginners' luck is running thin this time.
Let's jump into the battles!
Battle 1 - LOSE
Right off the bat, I was thrown in deep waters with higher levelled cards and a Queen Mycelia on the opposing lineup. I sent in Katrelba Gobson (Gladius card), which helped me score a win in the last brawl, and her ability was thwarted by Queen Mycelia's armor. Instead of taking 2 backline cards, she was only able to take 1 out. From then on, it was downhill as the Level 3 Grund dished out 4+4 damage every round.
Battle 2 - LOSE
I picked Witch of Warwick (Gladius card) to assist me this round as I thought her Life Leech might be a gamechanger. Unfortunately, a Level 3 Silent Sha-vi on the opposing end with 3 melee damage was just too much for my backline, had it been Level 1 with 2 melee damage, I would have more time to build my HP. Didn't have enough gas in the tank for this one.
Battle 3 - LOSE
For the 3rd time in a row, both teams have gone for the same summoner, and evidently, the difference in levels of the cards used was very instrumental in deciding the outcome of the battle. In this battle, I thought I have put out a strong lineup (with the luxury of mana) for this Poison battle. I had Orella Abadon (Gladius Card) to assist me but on hindsight, it wasn't a good pick because his Bloodlust was not going to match the speed of Poison. Overall, Grum edged out the victory for my opponent but I thought Legionnaire Alvar did pretty well as a tank.
Battle 4 - LOSE
I fielded a strong lineup and picked Edith Emberstar (Gladius Card) to assist me. Unfortunately, it was still not enough to match the higher level cards on the opposing end. They had a stronger tank and a Level 2 River Hellondale with Resurrect and Inspire, and that made it an uphill battle for my team.
Battle 5 - WIN
Opponent fled. That's the best I could get this time!
Usually, I would encounter such instances at the end of the brawl, but I actually won 1 match before even submitting a team. That's interesting.
So that sums up my 5 battles for this brawl!
Review Of Gladius Cards
Since I am able to use Gladius cards now, I thought I should review selected cards that helped me win in the brawls. Even though I didn't get any wins through Gladius Cards this round, I have selected 1 card to do a review. Of course, please let me know if you have any tips in using these cards too as I am keen to learn and improve too!
CARD: WITCH OF WARWICK
ELEMENT: DEATH
RARITY: COMMON
ABILITY: BLOODLUST, LIFE LEECH
Despite coming in at a squishy 2 HP, Bloodlust and Life Leech if executed well can turn this into a monster within 2 or 3 rounds. However, I feel this card has many weaknesses which would make me think twice before selecting this card to fill the precious Gladius Card quota. One, she hits the tank because she doesn't have Opportunity/Snipe/Sneak so it's not easy to get a last hit and activate Bloodlust. Two, if faced with a Death lineup/summoner (i.e. Thaddius Brood), -1 Magic damage would reduce her attack and impair her Life Leech ability. Three, 5 mana is not cheap for her stats, 2 damage, 1 speed, 2 HP. So unless there are specific battle modifiers such as Equaliser, I would prefer to pick other Death Gladius cards (unfortunately, this is my only Death Gladius card at the moment).
