Basic Counter Tips

in Splinterlands3 years ago

One of the biggest aspects of strategizing your team for the battle is to predict your opponent and counter it. This will give you an advantage and raise your chances of winning. Most players upon starting haven't really noticed it. That is why they are having a hard time advancing to the next league.

The best way that can help you win battles is to learn how to play your monsters effectively. Start with reading your monster's abilities. This will help you determine where it can be very effective in battle or how it can affect other monsters for you to win.

Here are some key factors you need to take advantage of.

  1. Summoner and Monster used.
Gives you an idea of what summoners and monsters might be used.
  2. Recently played teams.
Gives you an idea of what splinter he/she is comfortable with. This way you can predict what team he/she is highly going to use or might use.
  3. Splinter available to use.
This will help you determine if he/she can use the team he/she wants. The same idea with recently played teams and if the team is not available the opponent will definitely choose its 2nd best team.
  4. Mana cap.
This will give you an idea of what possible monsters he/she will use and how many monsters there will be.
  5. Rules
It commonly affects gameplay. Sometimes there are no abilities. You won't be able to use magic or no range. You only need to pick monsters that will fit perfectly with the rules.

Few samples of cards and how to counter them. Let us start with the very famous summoner in bronze Mylor Crowling.

Mylor Crowling - its ability is to give thorns ability to friendly monsters which will do damage upon attack.

In order for you to defeat this summoner, use ranged or magic monsters. This way you won't get thorns. Cards with high HP but no attack will come in very handy in the front row like the Warrior of Peace. You can also use monsters with healing ability to make it more durable.

Speaking of healing, if you are having trouble with opponents using healing monsters. Affliction is what you need, it is an ability that causes the target unable to heal or be healed when affected like this Undead archer.

Given a high mana cap, water is the most likely to be picked since magic damage can kill monsters without thinking about the shield. Also, summoner Alric Stormbringer adds 1 more damage to it. All you need is a durable front-row monster to sustain the damage from your opponent so your monsters can slowly take care of the opponent's monster 1 by 1. It is indeed a powerful set of cards.

However, using it all the time will make you very predictable and the only way to defeat it is by having monsters with magic reflect, void or silence. With these abilities, the magic damage will not be as powerful as it can be.

This is not 100% win rate tips but it can help you plan ahead of time for better chances. Like always, enjoy the game while you earn.

I wanted to share my latest game. Where I applied these and predicted that the opponent will use Mylor after I checked his/her recent played teams and monsters used.
