Hello there! @saydie here, manually playing Splinterlands everyday!
As Splinterlands continue to increase the variety of cards in the game with releasing new sets and mini sets, it is obvious that not every cards will be as useful in the game's meta but that doesn't mean that they do not have their own use. Even the most underrated card can be really powerful when played on niche rulesets.
And so, for this week's Community Engagement Challenge, I want to share with you some battles using Dumacke Orc which seems to be an underrated #ForgottenCards but can be a strong anti-melee, melee unit when played on the right hands.

As a common card with only 1 health, we do not usually see Dumacke Orc on most battles, particularly because of its very low health that makes it very vulnerable from magic attacks and at the same time, it was very slow so it less likely to avoid any melee avoid any attacks from most melee and range units. On the other hand, with the absence of magic, this card can be really powerful, particularly against melee units due to its Retaliate that allows it to do an attack against the melee opponent that attacks it as well as Thorns that will inflict damage when it was attacked by melee units. Add to the fact that it has the Shield ability that will reduce the damage it receives from both melee and range attacks by half.
![]() Up to Eleven | Amplify increases the damage of all counters, making Dumacke Orc a good choice in this ruleset. |

![]() Lost Magic | Dumacke Orc has a lot of armor, making it a terrific card to survive when there's no Magic |
![]() Equalizer | Dumacke Orc has high damage but typically suffers from low survivability with its 1 health. However in 'Equalizer' this shortcoming is often negated. |
![]() Up Close & Personal | Dumacke Orc has several abilities suitable for melee-only fights (Thorns, Shield, Retaliate), making it one of the best cards in the game for the 'Up Close & Personal' ruleset. Also, its max melee damage is 4, making it a strong damage dealer in this ruleset. |
![]() Melee Mayhem | Dumacke Orc has several abilities suitable for melee-heavy fights (Thorns, Shield, Retaliate), making it one of the best cards in the game for the 'Melee Mayhem' ruleset. Also, its max melee damage is 4, making it a strong damage dealer in this ruleset. |
![]() Super Sneak | Dumacke Orc can be a good counter against backline attacks of the unsuspecting melee units that attacks it using Sneak. |
Battle Showcase
In this battle, the ruleset in play was Up Close & Personal meaning, only units with melee attack can be used in battle and given my opponent's battle history, it was most likely that my opponent will use Venka the Vile so as a countermeasure, I placed Dumacke Orc as main tank to be the counter against it with the combination of Thorns and Retaliate plus the Shield ability will reduce any melee attack that was thrown to Dumacke Orc by half.
My opponent, as confident as he is uses Akane to give the Ambush ability to Venka the Vile and Deamonshark so that they can have a head start in inflicting damage to my units even before round 1 start but it backfires heavily because attacking Dumacke Orc not only removes the Divine Shield on Venka the Vile but the series of Thorns and Retaliate has resulted to the immediate defeat of Deamonshark.
And when round 1 starts, although Venka the Vile defeats my Dumacke Orc, its Thorns still left it with 2 damage and next to it was Mycelic Morphoid which is another card with Thorns, inflicting another 2 damage, resulting for Venka the Vile to only have 2 health when round 2 ends.
And because Venka the Vile was already heavily damage, it has become easier for my Quora Towershed to defeat it, ending the match in my victory.
Price Comparison
- Opponent Team: $581.53
- My Team: $147.26 (minus soulbound = $12.389)
As you can see, the value of my opponent's team was almost 4x the value of my team but considering that many of the cards that I used are soulbound cards including Dumacke Orc, the actual value was even less since I did not spend any dime in getting the cards.
Closing
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this article. I hope I was able to provide valuable information and impart some ideas that can help you in your future battles.
While Dumacke Orc was only a common card with a very low health, it can take even the most powerful cards and can be a nightmare for melee cards when used properly in battle.
Thank you and see you on the next post!
