Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!
With the start of a new year comes with a new beginning for Splinterlands so as for the Splinterlands community but before I say my farewell to 2024, I would like to share my thoughts about a topic that was raised by @thepeoplesguild which is "what will we do on the packs that was sitting on the DAO's inventory that will benefit the game, the players and the long term health of the game's economy". Honestly, I do not look far enough to know about the long term effects of the ideas that I will share on this post neither if it was feasible and how much dev time it could take to implement that's why I want to know your thoughts about this topic.
But first, I want to talk about the Rebellion Packs being Sold Out which I think is an important factor related to this topic.
Rebellion Packs Sold Out
On December 19th of 2024, Rebellion packs has been sold out on the Splinterlands' in-game store. This means that there will be no more packs that will be printed and the only means that players could acquire Rebellion packs is if they will buy it on the secondary market or buy for individual cards.
On the other hand, there are only about 71,268 packs that is in circulation which might look many but that would not even be enough to create 20 max accounts while the next set, Conclave Arcana will have an expected release of April assuming there will be no delays. The implication of this is that Rebellion packs and card holders expect that their assets would appreciate in value due to it's low supply specially when Chaos Legion has moved to Wild Format. Meanwhile, the @sps.dao has 898,681 packs that are sitting in their account which is currently doing nothing to benefit them but once it was released into the market, it can tank the price of Rebellion that is why major Rebellion holders would rather want the packs to sit in the DAO or otherwise burned. But I think that there is a middle ground by which some of the DAO's Rebellion pack was given to the community while not tanking the overall price of the cards. Here are my Suggestions.
🔹 DAO Rental Sets
This was not an entirely new idea. There used to have a 3rd party tool from NFTy Arcade which allows players to rent an entire Chaos Legion set but unfortunately, it did not work perhaps due to lack of marketing or due to the oversupply of Chaos Legion. But in contrast to Chaos Legion, Rebellion is way more scarce and if the game's marketing campaign has officially started, there will be a higher chance for the card sets to be rented both by new and returning players. Meanwhile, in order to no tank the current rental price of the available cards in the market, the price of the Dao's rental set will always be higher than what's available in the market.
For example, the price for a max level Rebellion core set was 3,899.722 DEC but for the Dao rental set will be 5-10% higher. For a higher rental price, the Dao rental sets offer the ease of renting cards manually while a way for the Dao to generate some income. For this to happen, we may need an automation tool that will check the price of individual cards hourly and adjust its price accordingly so that the price of the rental sets would not go lower than what is available in market.
🔹 Ambassador Program Leaderboard Rewards
Aside from the improve perks that the revamped Ambassador program offers on referrals, we can also see that there are also a leaderboard created that shows the accounts that refers the most users to the game but I think that we can also gamify the Ambassador Leaderboard by rewarding the top referees with Rebellion packs sponsored by the Dao.
🔹 League Advancement Jackpot Rewards
My take on this is that instead of giving packs on Jackpot chest, the Dao should open the packs and include the cards instead in order to slow the distribution of Rebellion cards then unlike the soulbound rewards, the multiplier for Rebellion cards on chest is lower but set its drop chance lower.
🔹 Rebellion Pack Rewards for Flawless Brawl
Aside from ranks, brawls was an important part of the game where league caps are retained, allowing players of different investments to play with the league they are supposed to be while helping the guilds they are belong to and occasionally, there will be time where players would win all their brawls and I think that flawless brawls should be rewarded and Dao packs could be used for those rewards to encourage players to take their brawls more seriously. The way that I would arrange it is that there is a similar type of soulbound token that will be awarded to players that wins all their brawls depending on their league which they can use to exchange for a Rebellion pack.
For example, one Rebelion pack is equivalent to 20 points then each league gives the following points.
Leagues | Points |
---|---|
Novice | 1 |
Bronze | 2 |
Silver | 3 |
Gold | 4 |
Max | 5 |
By this, even with an account playing on diamond fray, it would still need to have a flawless brawl for at least 4 brawl cycles just to have enough point that it can exchange for a rebellion pack but assuming that brawls become more competitive, the time that players could save enough point will take longer.
Closing
And there you have it. Finding out ways to utilize the packs sitting in the Dao's inventory is an extremely difficult task but with the suggestion that I wrote, I hope that we can find something that will enrich the community without hurting the Asset holders that helps in sustaining the game.
Thank you and see you at the next post.

Thanks for these thoughtful ideas about the SPSDAO Rebellion packs. I think one way to move them without upsetting the whales and big Rebellion owners is to get the store pack price back to the SPSDAO through tournament entry fees. Charge full pack prices to use them in competitive tournament events.
I wrote all about it here for TPG challenge: check it out! What do you think?
